05 September - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Hello, welcome to your national weather updates.
00:03We'll all see a bit of sunshine over the next few days,
00:05but I think most of us will also see some heavy downpours,
00:09welcome rain in some locations, of course.
00:11Here's the reason why.
00:12This big swirl of cloud on a satellite picture
00:15is a large area of low pressure.
00:17One band of rain is clearing to the north,
00:19another one approaching to the southwest,
00:21but actually, most places are in between.
00:24And so for many, it's a dry and a fine day
00:26across much of Scotland, Northern Ireland,
00:28Northern and Eastern England, a few showers,
00:30perhaps across the southeast,
00:32but it's more to the southwest of England and South Wales
00:35where some heavy thundery showers
00:38are likely to develop through the afternoon.
00:40Temperature-wise, well, in the sunshine,
00:42feeling pretty warm actually for the time of year,
00:4425, maybe 26 across East Anglia.
00:47Obviously, temperature will drop off
00:49when the showers come along and feeling cooler
00:51with the brisk breeze across the northeast of Scotland
00:53and the winds strengthening down to the southwest.
00:57These heavy showers move in.
00:59Some real downpours are likely to develop
01:01and slowly push northwards into parts of the Midlands.
01:04We have issued a yellow weather warning,
01:07certainly a lot of spray,
01:08a lot of surface water on the roads,
01:09parts of the M4 and the M5 in particular.
01:12Fairly tricky driving conditions through this evening.
01:16As we go through the evening and overnight,
01:18those heavy showers will continue to drift northwards
01:20into parts of Northern England and Northern Ireland.
01:23We'll see a few more heavy showers
01:24getting across parts of Eastern England as well.
01:27Again, they will be hit and miss.
01:29So if you're looking for rain, it's no guarantee,
01:31but we are looking at some downpours across Eastern England
01:34extending into Eastern Scotland by morning time.
01:37So you may get woken up by a flash of lightning
01:40or a rumble of thunder.
01:41It's going to be another pretty warm night as well,
01:43with temperatures generally holding up in the mid-teens.
01:46On to Tuesday, and it's a kind of similar story actually,
01:49looking down to the southwest
01:51for further heavy showers to develop.
01:53The wind's coming up from the south,
01:54but perhaps a few more showers tomorrow
01:57across Northern England and Southern Scotland,
01:59where they'll be on and off for most of the day.
02:01And then here come the next raft of heavy showers
02:04being thrown northwards by that area of low pressure.
02:08And by the end of the afternoon,
02:09covering much of England and Wales.
02:11Again, hit and miss, but again,
02:13likely to be heavy thunder thrown in,
02:16hail and lightning also potentially causing some issues.
02:19So yes, plenty going on over the next couple of days.
02:22It will still be another fairly mild day,
02:24feeling quite humid,
02:25ticking the east with some sunshine, 24, 25 degrees.
02:29Generally elsewhere, we're looking at high teens or low 20s,
02:32a bit more cloud tomorrow, not quite as much sunshine.
02:35And there will be more showers as well,
02:36which continue to get thrown northwards
02:38during Tuesday evening on gusty winds across the southwest,
02:42staying fairly windy across the northeast as well
02:45with further showers coming in here.
02:47And you can see just all spiraling around
02:49this area of low pressure,
02:51which not just dominates our weather
02:52for the next couple of days,
02:54but throughout this week,
02:55it will continue to maybe move a little closer to the UK.
02:59The isobar is opening up a touch to the winds,
03:00perhaps not quite as strong towards the end of the week,
03:02but with that low sitting over us,
03:04further heavy thundery showers
03:06likely on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
03:10So yes, showers throughout this week,
03:11some thunderstorms in places.
03:13Keep up to date with the latest weather warnings.
