30 September - National weather forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth
Transcript
00:00Hello. Friday will be a wet and windy day for the UK. In fact, many of us will see some
00:06of the windiest weather we've had so far this autumn. Now, the reason for that is the jet
00:12stream, which is very strong at the moment. It pushes up through the North Atlantic over
00:17the next 24 hours, developing and driving this area of low pressure that will sweep
00:22these fronts southeastwards across the country for Friday. But before then, it's quite a
00:27different picture on Thursday evening. A lot of dry and clear weather around, particularly
00:32across much of central and southern England and Wales. We could see the odd patch of fog
00:37developing mainly around southern counties. And under those clear spells, it will feel
00:43chilly once again. But further north and west, we're starting to see that wet and windy weather
00:48arrive. So temperature's not quite as chilly there, but it will start to be quite windy
00:53early on on Friday. So the wet and windy weather will push southeastwards through
00:57the rest of Friday. So in more northern areas to start in the morning, but arriving into
01:02the south by the afternoon. There's a warning in force for rain and for wind for northern
01:08parts of Scotland, northern and western parts of Scotland. We could see up to 40 millimetres
01:13of rain and gusts in excess of 70 miles per hour. Behind that rain, we'll start to see
01:19some clear spells developing, but blustery showers will push in from the northwest.
01:24And by lunchtime and into the afternoon, more central and southern areas will see that heavy
01:29and blustery rain. Let's take a closer look at the winds for Friday. As I said, winds,
01:36gusts in excess of 70 miles per hour may affect the far north of Scotland. But into the evening,
01:41we could see gusts in excess of 50 miles per hour in through the English Channel. So potentially
01:46some disruption to ferry services here on Friday evening. There also could be some disruption
01:53on the roads elsewhere in the country as we see the rain push through through rush hour
01:57into central and southeastern parts of England. Behind that through Friday night and into
02:03Saturday morning, there'll be a lot of showers pushing in from the northwest. They still
02:08be quite blustery. It will be gusty outside, but some decent clear spells developing in
02:14between. We'll see a similar theme through Saturday, sunny spells and blustery showers.
02:19But this rain could return into the south coast at times through the weekend. If you've
02:25got plans for the weekend, you can take a look at our full YouTube weekend forecast.
