15 July - National weather forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth
Transcript
00:00Hello, welcome to your latest national weather update from the Met Office. A reminder we
00:04have an extreme heat warning in force from Sunday until Tuesday. But for now, Thursday's
00:11actually been a bit of a cooler day and we've seen some rain and showers too. That rain
00:15will turn more persistent across Northern Ireland and into western and northern parts
00:19of Scotland on Friday night. Elsewhere though, it'll be a dry and clear night and temperatures
00:25will be relatively manageable overnight in the low to mid-teens for most of us. So that
00:30means we get off to quite a bright and sunny start for many parts of central and southern
00:35England and Wales. Further north though, notice that cloud starting to spread into northern
00:39England and southern Scotland as well. We'll see outbreaks of rain that will turn a bit
00:43more showery through the afternoon. We'll also see the skies brighten across Northern
00:48Ireland and western Scotland too with some long-lived sunshine to end the day for Northern
00:52Ireland. However, the best of those warmest temperatures will be across southern areas
00:57of England, highs of 27 or 28 degrees on Friday. Overnight, a lot of that cloud and rain will
01:05tend to clear, so it'll be a relatively dry and clear end to the working week. And overnight,
01:11it'll be a dry and clear night for much of the UK. However, notice we do still have some
01:16thicker cloud and rain at times across northern parts of Scotland. Again, temperatures relatively
01:21manageable in the mid to high teens for most of us. So that cloud and rain will continue
01:27to affect northern Scotland to start on Saturday, but elsewhere it will be a dry and sunny start
01:34to the day and much of the day we'll see prolonged warm and strong sunshine. The sunshine will
01:40turn a little bit hazier at times across Northern Ireland and southern Scotland, but for most
01:44of us, it is going to be a warmer day than Friday. Temperatures climbing widely into
01:50the mid-twenties for much of central and southern areas of England and Wales and across
01:55the far southeast, highs of 28 or 29 degrees. So a warm start to the weekend, but temperatures
02:01are going to pick up even more as we head into the rest of the weekend and the start
02:06of the new week. As we see intense heat that's been building over the near continent spread
02:11up into the UK for Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures are likely to peak on Tuesday, widely in the
02:18low to mid thirties and for some in the high thirties. That is exceptionally warm for the
02:23time of year and we are expecting some impacts due to the heat. So it's important you keep
02:28up to date with the forecast and you can do that by following us on social media.
