17 August - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Hello again. A rather overcast day for much of the country, but not everywhere. Some places
00:06seeing a bit of sunshine, particularly through parts of Scotland. But as I say, most fairly
00:11grey and at times quite gusty as well. We've got this set of weather fronts just dangling
00:16across the country like a bit of a spider, just edging slowly southwards, but not providing
00:22huge amounts of rain. But where this weather front is lying, it is going to stay pretty
00:26dull and damp. Parts of northwest England, north Wales, Northern Ireland, drizzly at
00:31times here, maybe a little bit across east Anglia too. But either side of that, we should
00:36stay largely dry. A hint of brightness for south Wales, southwest England, and as I said
00:40at the start, a good part of Scotland, we'll see some sunny spells. It is quite breezy
00:45though, some gusty winds at times, and temperatures well below average for most of the time of
00:50year. A bit of sunshine, could see highs of 22, maybe 23 through parts of southeast Scotland,
00:55but mostly high teens at best. Through this evening, not a great deal of change. I think
01:01any patchy rain should edge away from east Anglia, but staying fairly cloudy overnights
01:06across Wales, Northern Ireland with rain and drizzle here and there. We'll see a bit more
01:09rain through the latter half of the night, just spread into the far north of Scotland
01:14where it stays windy. Elsewhere, the winds will ease off a little bit. Temperatures will
01:18hold up with the clouds, staying in the teens mostly. But parts of eastern England, southeast
01:24Scotland with some clearer skies and rural spots, we could drop down into single figures.
01:29On to the details for Wednesday, and again, it's a mostly cloudy day. Again, there'll
01:32be some drizzly rain at times, chiefly over the hills and mountains of West Wales, Northern
01:37Ireland, and it's quite wet and quite windy across northern Scotland. But otherwise, many
01:42places just dry and cloudy. We should see again some breaks in the cloud, parts of southeast
01:48Scotland, northeast England, maybe again south Wales, southwest England too, where it stays
01:53cloudy. Temperatures will again be below average, high teens, low 20s. But with a bit
01:59of sunshine, parts of eastern England, particularly southeast Scotland, could get 24, maybe 25
02:04Celsius. So that will actually feel quite warm with a bit of blue sky. For most of it
02:08will be grey and again quite windy across the north. Otherwise, tomorrow, the winds
02:12a little lighter than today's. Not a great deal will change through the evening. Again,
02:17some drizzle here and there in the west, largely dry and clear further east. And no big changes
02:22through the rest of this week, although it does look as if we will start to see some
02:26heavier rain moving in from the west during the weekend. More details on that over the
02:31next few days. Make sure you're following the Met Office on social media.
