00:00Hello, welcome to your latest update from the Met Office.
00:03For most of the UK, it's a much brighter day out there today.
00:06We're finally seeing a bit of autumn sunshine
00:09for what's been a fairly cloudy few days.
00:11There are some showers around, chiefly
00:14for the rest of the day in Western Scotland.
00:16And it's also pretty gusty across northern Britain.
00:19Here's the wider picture.
00:20This line of cloud was a cold front that moved through,
00:23introducing slightly cooler air.
00:24You can see the showers feeding in here on the radar
00:26over northwest England, northern Ireland,
00:29and some heavy ones for Western Scotland.
00:31Those showers are fading now for northern Ireland
00:34and northwest England.
00:35Still the odd one, but mostly dry here.
00:37We will keep some showers going there
00:39across Western Scotland and staying pretty blustery.
00:41Much of the South Oak dry and brighter
00:44than of late, with many places seeing
00:46some good spells of sunshine.
00:48It is slightly cooler air because of that cold front.
00:50So temperature is not quite as high as recent days.
00:53But still, with a bit of sunshine,
00:54and feeling pretty pleasant for the time of year,
00:56temperatures still around or even a touch above average
01:00may peak at 13 Celsius across parts of the south.
01:04Now, through this afternoon into more likely this evening,
01:07cloud will thicken further over northern Ireland.
01:09We'll see things turning a bit damp and drizzly here
01:11for a time.
01:12That wet weather then pushes into Scotland
01:14and peps up a little bit overnight.
01:16So it's going to be a fairly soggy night
01:17over the highlands, the northern isles, and the western isles.
01:20The rain fairly patchy over southwest Scotland,
01:23a little bit over the hills of northwest England.
01:25But otherwise, it's largely dry again
01:27across the south and the east.
01:29It will turn a little chilly for a time
01:31with some clearer skies across eastern England,
01:33well down into single figures.
01:34But generally turning milder from the northwest
01:38because warmer air is pushing back in.
01:40That warmer air will also bring a lot of cloud.
01:44Rain and drizzle at times across northern Scotland.
01:46Also very gusty conditions across Scotland
01:48for much of Thursday.
01:49Breezy over northern England, northern Ireland
01:51too, with a lot of cloud.
01:53Again, some rain over the hills of northwest England,
01:55maybe the hills of west Wales too.
01:58But for many, it's a dry day.
02:00And we should see some breaks in the cloud
02:02across eastern parts of England.
02:03A bit of sunshine likely here, maybe northeast Scotland too.
02:07So we are going to see temperatures rising again.
02:10A reminder of today's values, 10 to 12, maybe 13 Celsius.
02:14But the drizzly conditions coming into the northwest
02:17from this weather front.
02:18But it's a warm front.
02:19So tucked in here, some warmer air
02:21that spreads across the country overnight
02:24and then during Thursday.
02:26So much milder air returns yet again.
02:29So that's even though many places
02:31will be cloudy on Thursday, temperature
02:33will be back up 13, 14.
02:35Northeast Scotland could, with a bit of sunshine,
02:37see highs of 15, possibly even 16 Celsius.
02:41But remember, it will be quite windy here too.
02:43There'll be rain continuing over the northern isles
02:46and over the highlands through Thursday evening.
02:48But otherwise, again, many places
02:50staying dry and still pretty gusty
02:52across the northern half of the UK.
02:54Just a bit of a breeze blowing further south.
02:57And we're going to Friday like that as well,
02:59with a lot of cloud, most places dry.
03:01And again, it is going to be very mild.
03:03There are signs, though, that things
03:05are going to be turning colder as we go through the weekend.
