13 November - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Good morning. Welcome to your first update of the day from the Met Office this Tuesday.
00:05Some heavy downpours around again today, starting off in the southwest of England,
00:09a narrow band of very heavy rain working its way from west to east.
00:13We do have a Met Office yellow warning for thunderstorms because this band of rain will contain some intense downpours
00:19and some gusty winds. Lightning could cause some problems as well as a lot of surface water and spray on the road.
00:25So bear that in mind if you are just heading out the door across southern counties.
00:29There'll be showers elsewhere as well for parts of Scotland and northern England.
00:34They'll keep going on and off throughout the day.
00:36But for much of the Midlands, Wales and by this afternoon southern England,
00:40we should see some decent spells of sunshine and not too many showers here.
00:44Still quite breezy on the western coast, but further east the winds are certainly a lot lighter than they were yesterday.
00:49Temperatures no higher, however, mostly 8, 9, 10 Celsius across the north,
00:54maybe squeaking into the teens further south, perhaps 14 with some sunny spells on the south coast this afternoon.
01:00As we go through this evening, we'll see more showers coming into Northern Ireland,
01:04moving in on a fairly brisk wind, plenty more showers to come through the evening and overnight across Scotland also
01:10and much of northern England. Southern half the country, a few scattered showers in the west,
01:14but many places seeing some lengthy clear spells. A cooler night as a result,
01:19but still mostly holding up at 7 or 8 degrees Celsius.
01:23Perhaps in northern Scotland with light winds, where we do see clear skies, we may see a touch of frost.
01:29On to Wednesday and it will broadly be a case of sunshine and showers,
01:33certainly for Northern Ireland initially and this line of showers could feed in,
01:37into northwest England and southwest Scotland for most of the day.
01:41But northern Scotland seeing some lengthy spells of sunshine, it should turn drier for Northern Ireland.
01:45And again for the Midlands, Wales, southern England, many places here won't see many showers during tomorrow.
01:51A decent chance of a dry day. The winds will be easing as well.
01:54Notice the wind starting to arch around a little bit like this.
01:56That's because there's a brief ridge of high pressure trying to move in.
02:00It won't do much for the temperatures though. Still single figures across the north,
02:04maybe a little cooler further south. Even with some sunshine, we could struggle to get up to 13 Celsius.
02:10But here's that little ridge I was talking about in the pressure pattern.
02:14Not going to last too long, but it will bring many places a fine end to Wednesday.
02:18For the west, however, we are keeping our eyes on this, a developing area of low pressure.
02:23Some question marks about how intense this low gets and indeed how far north or how far south it gets.
02:29So do keep up to date with the latest forecast.
02:32Alex Burkill has more on that low pressure in the week ahead forecast.
02:36That's available on YouTube and make sure that you hit subscribe and then you'll never miss an update.
