9 November - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Some will have sunshine today, many will have lots of showers, and quite a few of us will have a little bit of both.
00:07Yes, it's one of those sunshine and showers day created by low pressure.
00:11You can see the swirl here on the satellite image waiting out in the Atlantic.
00:15There are a couple of other areas of low pressure, but in between there is a little ridge and that will move in to bring many of us a fine day on Saturday.
00:24That's not here yet, however, so we do have to deal with this low pressure sending bands of showers across the country.
00:30Mostly coming in from the west and that's where we will see lots of the showers this afternoon.
00:35With parts of the east mostly staying dry and bright, eastern England and much of northern Scotland also having a fine afternoon.
00:41The wind's quite light here, but elsewhere it is quite blustery, which means the showers will zip through.
00:47You're never too far away from the next one coming in and through parts of Wales, south-west England and north-west England.
00:53Some heavy, even thundery downpours are possible.
00:56It feels pretty fresh out there, especially in the wind and especially when the showers come along.
01:00But in the brighter spells and a bit of sunshine, we could see highs of 11 or 12 across the south-east, 8 or 9 in the sunshine across northern parts of Scotland.
01:09But as I said, at least here for many the winds are light.
01:12The winds won't be light overnight though in the south, getting pretty blustery once more, particularly in the far south-west.
01:17We're going to see this zone of heavier showers coming in into parts of Wales and south-west England.
01:23That could provide some very gusty conditions, particularly through the early hours across parts of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
01:30Elsewhere the showers are tending to fade in many locations and again with the lighter winds, temperatures are going to plummet across parts of Scotland.
01:37We'll see some pockets of frost likely here, most other places well down into single digits.
01:43Chilly start then to Friday and quite a wet start, parts of the M4 and the M5 in particular with these heavy downpours moving through.
01:50But they are moving through and they should tend to clear, affecting parts of the south-east well into the morning however.
01:57But once they're out of the way, many areas will be dry and fine.
02:01Some showers in northern Scotland, we'll see some grazing the west coast of Scotland.
02:05It's a cloudy day for Northern Ireland and we'll see the showers returning to north-west England and north Wales later on.
02:10But as I said, for a good chunk of the country, much of Friday will be dry and bright.
02:15Notice the wind direction however, coming down from the north or north-west, so bringing fairly chilly air.
02:21Temperatures in many locations won't get out of single digits, so quite a fresh feel particularly in that breeze.
02:27And it'll turn pretty cold pretty quickly if you're heading out on Friday night and there will be largely clear skies.
02:34The main exception to that, again, north-west England, north Wales, some heavy showers coming in here
02:39and further showers returning to northern Scotland during Friday evening.
02:43But elsewhere, even by nine o'clock, you can see just a hint of blue on the chart.
02:46We will see a frost as we head into Saturday morning.
