10 August - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin

00:00After a brief bout of warmth, cooler fresh air is on the way and plenty more showers to come as well.
00:07Here's the reason why. Big area of low pressure sitting out in the Atlantic.
00:11Ahead of this cold front, we've seen the warmth building.
00:15But this cold front is going to do what it's supposed to do and push that warmth away, introducing the cooler air.
00:22It's a slow process, so still pretty warm during the course of Friday, especially in the east.
00:27But once the cooler air is in play, the low pressure really takes over.
00:32And spiralling around this, we're going to see bands of showers moving in.
00:36Now, the closer you are to the low, the more frequent the showers.
00:39Lots of them across Western Scotland, Northern Ireland during Saturday and some heavy ones as well.
00:44But further south and east, maybe not too many showers and a good chance here that much of the weekend will be dry.
00:51OK, let's bring it back because the cold front is pushing in during Thursday evening.
00:56Ahead of it, most have had a fine day, but that cold front is going to bring some heavy rain to Northern Ireland.
01:01There's a Met Office yellow warning in place and the brighter colours there,
01:05the heavier rain will work its way across much of Scotland through the early hours.
01:09A few showers possible across England and Wales, but many here will stay dry.
01:13And we've still got the warm air in place.
01:15So temperatures are going to hold up through the night.
01:17First thing on Friday morning in the high teens in many urban areas.
01:21So it won't be a cold start. It will be a wet start across much of central and northern Scotland.
01:26Still some heavy bursts of rain here, pushing steadily across the Northern Isles, but clearing from the mainland.
01:32And then we'll see a few showers developing as we go through the day.
01:35Pretty well scattered, though.
01:36So a decent chance that many places will actually stay dry during Friday with some decent spouts of sunshine.
01:43And when we do see the showers, they will tend to zip through on a fairly brisk winds.
01:48But when they do turn up, they could also be on the heavy side.
01:51And that's brisk wind will bring that fresher feel.
01:54So temperatures a few degrees down for most places,
01:57but still fairly warm across the central and eastern parts.
02:00East Anglia could see 27, maybe 28 degrees Celsius.
02:03But generally, I think we'll notice that cooler and fresher feel with that brisk wind
02:07continuing to spiral in bands of showers as we go through Friday evening,
02:12particularly for western parts of Scotland.
02:14And look at this.
02:15Another spell of rain likely to head in towards Northern Ireland as we head towards Saturday morning.
02:21It will be turning cooler.
02:22The cooler air in place, the temperatures at night will be dipping down lower,
02:26but still likely in many towns and cities to remain in the teens for the start of Saturday,
02:31which will be that mix of sunshine and showers.
02:33As I said, the closer you are to the low here, the more frequent the showers,
02:37lots of them for Scotland, Northern Ireland, some heavy ones to band of showers,
02:42likely to cross through England and Wales as well.
02:45The showers may form into bands, which is something we need to keep an eye on
02:48because some places may see shower after shower.
02:51Others may stay dry.
02:52And in fact, of course, East Anglia in the southeast,
02:54I suspect not many showers here on Saturday.
02:57A decent chance that much of the day will be dry.
02:59And where we don't see the showers, there will be a bit of sunshine coming through.
03:03But temperatures back by Saturday closer to where they have been for much of July
03:08and early August in the high teens or low 20s at best.
03:12We'll keep that mixture of sunshine and showers going as we go through Sunday as well.
