10 August - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00A bit of warmth across the UK, higher temperatures than we've seen for quite some time.
00:05It's not gloriously sunny everywhere.
00:07There is quite a bit of cloud in a few places.
00:09A satellite image from this morning showing lumpier cloud across parts of Scotland,
00:14Northern England and down to the far south in one or two showers here.
00:18But most places will be dry today.
00:20As we go through the afternoon, a greater chance of some heavier showers developing across North Wales.
00:25But they'll be very hit and miss.
00:26As I said, most places dry and bright.
00:28The cloud breaking up a little bit to reveal some hazy sunshine and to reveal those temperatures,
00:34as I said, quite a bit warmer than it has been for quite some time.
00:37Widely into the mid-twenties, particularly where it's sunny, but even where it stays cloudy,
00:42it is still pretty warm. Temperatures on the north coast of Scotland could get up to 25,
00:48maybe 26 Celsius and where it's sunny through England and Wales, 27, 28, perhaps even 29 degrees Celsius.
00:55Notice the cloud is thickening down to the southwest.
00:57The breeze is picking up signs of a change and the rain coming into Northern Ireland
01:01could be pretty heavy through this evening and overnight.
01:04A Met Office yellow warning is in place for that.
01:06And some of those heavy downpours then work their way across much of Scotland through the early hours.
01:11Any showers across England and Wales, pretty well scattered, so most here staying dry.
01:15And it will be another pretty warm and humid night, fairly difficult night for sleeping.
01:19Again, something we've not seen for quite some time, 16, 17, maybe 18 the low in some urban areas.
01:26So a warmish start to Friday, but we are going to feel different, I think, compared to today.
01:32Some heavy downpours across northern Scotland, so quite a wet start here, a few showers elsewhere.
01:36And then through the day, we'll see a mixture of sunshine and a few more showers developing.
01:40A breezier day, so the showers will tend to move through and they're, again, pretty well scattered.
01:46So there's a decent chance that some places won't see many showers at all,
01:49maybe just a dry, fine, sunny day again, but it will feel fresher, less humid.
01:54Still quite warm in these eastern areas, parts of eastern England could again get into the high 20s.
01:59But for most temperatures, a few degrees lower, feeling fresher, a bit more of a breeze blowing, helping that fresher feel too.
02:06Now, that breeze is being generated by an area of low pressure.
02:09And you can see these bands of showers gathering out west.
02:12They will start to push in more bodily, more widely across Northern Ireland into western Scotland during Friday evening.
02:20And that is signs of this area of low pressure, which is just going to spiral bands of showers around it through the weekend.
02:26Now, the closer you are to the low, the more frequent the showers will be.
02:31So heavy downpours likely across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:34For England and Wales, the showers likely to form into bands.
02:37So some places could see a lot, but some may not see too many, particularly East Anglia and the southeast.
02:43Here's the best chance of lengthy, dry and bright spells through the weekend, but a fresher feel compared to Thursday.
02:49More details, as always, on all of that across social media.
