Transcript
00:00Hello, welcome to your national weather updates.
00:03We've got warmth, we've got sunshine, we've got humidity,
00:06and we've got some thunderstorms.
00:08The bigger picture tells the story, a big swirl of cloud
00:11out in the Atlantic.
00:12It's a low pressure system, but it's kind of staying here,
00:15draped across the western half of the UK
00:18as an arm of that weather system,
00:20bringing some showery rain.
00:22But further east from that, warm air in the sunshine,
00:25temperatures getting into the mid-20s.
00:27So big contrast across the country today.
00:29The rain pepping up across Northern Ireland,
00:31West Wales, southwest England, some heavy downpours here,
00:34rain creeping into western Scotland.
00:36But for many central and eastern parts,
00:38it's a fine, warm late spring day
00:41with temperatures higher than they have been for a while.
00:44Probably the warmest day of the year, 25,
00:46maybe 26 Celsius across the southeast.
00:48Generally quite widely up over 20 degrees,
00:51but obviously it's cooler where we've got the cloud
00:53and rain further west and where we've got some mist
00:55and har across the east coast of Scotland.
00:59It is also a little fresher here.
01:01That rain is going to spread more bodily
01:02across Northern England, Scotland through this evening,
01:06and some heavy thundery showers are possible
01:08across parts of eastern England too.
01:10You may get woken up by a flash of lightning
01:12or a rumble of thunder.
01:13It all clears out of the way though through the early hours.
01:15So most places become dry.
01:17A few showers keeping going in the northwest.
01:19A southerly breeze keeping the temperatures up.
01:22We might dip down into single figures in a few places,
01:25but mostly we're staying well up above double figures.
01:29And it'll be another fine day
01:30for the vast majority on Wednesday.
01:32Yes, a few showers, particularly early on
01:34across the Highlands and the Western Isles.
01:36But again, they'll tend to clear away to the north.
01:39Some coasts could be a little bit misty and murky,
01:41but generally it's a fine day with plenty of sunshine,
01:44certainly a brighter day for Northern Ireland,
01:46West Wales, southwest England.
01:47More sunshine to come here tomorrow compared to today.
01:51Not quite as warm perhaps, but still warm enough
01:54with temperatures widely into the high teens or low 20s.
01:59Probably peaking at 23 or maybe 24 across the southeast.
02:02Again, some coasts will be a little cooler.
02:04And again, we are going to see things change through the day
02:07as a weather front pushes in from the west
02:09and then the potential for some thunderstorms
02:12to drift up from the south.
02:14Kind of pincer movement going on during Wednesday evening.
02:17So rain spreading to Northern Ireland, which could be heavy.
02:19The risk of heavy showers across parts of England and Wales.
02:23And then even more heavy showers could drift up
02:27from France later in the evening.
02:29This is something we're keeping a close eye on.
02:31Warm, humid air spreading the potential
02:34for some further thunderstorms across parts of eastern England
02:37during Wednesday night
02:39and into the early hours of Thursday morning.
02:41So again, you may get woken up by a flash of lightning
02:43or a rumble of thunder
02:45and could be some heavy downpours in places.
02:47So as I said, plenty going on,
02:49warm sunshine and some thunderstorms.
