00:00Hello again and welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Into Wednesday and we see further heavy rain moving northwards across most parts of the
00:07country but skies will brighten for many of us through the afternoon. It stays windy though
00:12and it will turn increasingly very mild particularly in the south. It's this area of low pressure
00:16that's responsible for the wet and windy weather on Wednesday but the isobars stay
00:20quite tightly packed together on Thursday and Friday as well so it stays quite windy
00:24and there'll be further weather fronts bringing some rain at times although it turns exceptionally
00:29mild for all of us particularly by the new year. Back to Tuesday evening though and whilst
00:34there's a lot of cloud around out there for most of us there are some clear spells particularly
00:38across northern Scotland and it's here that we'll see temperatures plummet well below
00:42freezing with some freezing fog patches developing in the glens. Further southwest though skies
00:47will cloud over later in the night and we'll start to see some rain pushing up from the
00:51southwest some pretty heavy bursts mixed in there as well by the end of the night. That
00:56rain band continues to track its way northeastwards across the country through Wednesday morning
01:00the rain always heaviest and most persistent across more northern and northwestern parts
01:04and falling as snow temporarily across the tops of the Scottish mountains. Behind that
01:09skies brightening for many parts of Northern Ireland, England and Wales through the afternoon
01:13with some sunny spells. It stays windy though with coastal gales in the west but temperatures
01:18will respond with highs of 13 to 15 degrees with that mild southwesterly air well above
01:24average for the time of year. Through Wednesday evening and it stays quite wet across the
01:29far north of Scotland. Some damp weather also returning to parts of southwest England and
01:33south Wales but elsewhere generally staying mostly dry. It stays exceptionally mild through
01:39Thursday and Friday and into the new year with temperatures well above average for the
01:43time of year. Some rain at times and also quite windy particularly in the north and
01:47west. For further details though please make sure you follow us on our social media channels.
01:52Bye for now.
