00:00Good afternoon and welcome to your latest national weather update. It's been a largely fine weekend so far, however the weather is set to change as we go through the next 24 hours.
00:09High pressure is going to move away to the west, allowing a cold front to sweep its way southwards from the north and that will bring some arctic air with it.
00:18So winds turning to a northerly direction for Monday and Tuesday bring a noticeable wind chill, temperatures dropping to below average values by day.
00:25And we'll also see some showers or potentially some longer spells of rain and it stays relatively unsettled right the way through the coming week.
00:32Back to Sunday afternoon though and southern areas are still holding on to some bright if not sunny weather through much of this afternoon.
00:39A bit more in the way of cloud compared to this morning and just one or two very isolated showers near to some coasts.
00:45Further north the cloud is thickening, we are seeing a few light showery outbreaks of rain developing across Scotland, Northern England and Northern Ireland.
00:53And across Northern Scotland we've got this band of heavier rain arriving, turning windy here with gales around the coast and over the higher ground.
01:00And generally temperatures around average for the time of year.
01:03That band of rain sweeps its way southwards across the UK as we go through Sunday evening, followed by blustery showers moving into northern areas.
01:12Gales still possible around the coasts of Northern Scotland and the rain coming further south but tending to become a bit lighter and some places not seen too much.
01:21It will be a much milder night for many places this coming night compared to Saturday night.
01:26Temperatures largely holding up well above freezing but turning quite cold in the north later, particularly with that wind.
01:32So it's a showery day on Monday, some sunny spells in between the showers and the showers tend to be more focused in northern and western areas initially.
01:41And then down some eastern coast through the afternoon, so some places will see some bright or sunny spells.
01:46But there will be that brisk northwesterly wind still gusting up to gale force in some northern parts of Scotland.
01:53So temperatures down generally compared to Sunday.
01:58And actually, when you factor in the wind chill, it will feel more like two to five degrees across some northern eastern parts of Scotland on Monday afternoon.
02:05So a marked wind chill indeed.
02:07It stays showery on Tuesday.
02:09There'll be some sunny spells in between, but still temperatures a bit below average for the time of year.
