00:00Hello again and a very Happy New Year from everyone here at the Met Office.
00:042022 has started much like 2021 ended, exceptionally mild for the time of year.
00:10And as we move into Sunday, it remains very mild, but it will also be quite breezy once again
00:15and there will be more on the way of blustery showers compared to Saturday, but also some sunshine around too.
00:20The bigger picture shows that low pressure is in charge of the weather across northwest Europe through the coming few days.
00:26The ice bars stay fairly tightly packed together as well, so it stays quite breezy.
00:30And as these weather fronts move across the country, we will see some longer spells of rain.
00:34But by Tuesday, cold northerly winds bring a much colder feel to all areas and there will be potentially some snow in places.
00:41Back to this evening, though, and we have got some dry and clear weather out there for a time,
00:46but there's going to be an increasing chance of bands of showers or longer spells of rain
00:50working across the country from the southwest as we go through the early hours of Sunday morning
00:54and some fairly persistent heavy rains possible in places.
00:58With that mild southwest breeze continuing, though, it will once again be a very mild night for the time of year
01:03and in some places, temperatures won't fall below double figures.
01:07So Sunday is shaping up to be a much more changeable day than on Saturday.
01:11There will be some sunnier and drier periods of weather around,
01:14but there's a greater chance that we'll see bands of heavy showers working their way from west to east across the country.
01:20Some pretty heavy downpours in places with the risk of hail and thunder, particularly in the west,
01:25and also some gusty and blustery winds in places, particularly on some southern coastal counties of England
01:30and more generally around these northwestern coasts.
01:33Another very mild picture, though, but just not quite as exceptionally mild as it has been.
01:38It stays changeable through Sunday evening with further showers moving from west to east across the country
01:43and some clearer interludes in between.
01:46As we go into next week, it turns much colder, particularly by Tuesday,
01:50and as that colder air digs in, we'll see a return to overnight frosts,
01:54but also the chance of some snow in places, particularly in the north.
01:58For further details, though, please do make sure you follow us on our social media channels and download our app.
02:03Otherwise, have a lovely weekend and a happy new year.
