02 December - National weather forecast for Thursday presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Temperatures have been up and down throughout this week,
00:03and they're going down once more on Wednesday night.
00:06A cold start to Thursday, an icy night, perhaps,
00:10in some places, then generally a fine and sunny day
00:14to come, with the winds continuing to ease down.
00:17Still pretty windy, though, at first,
00:19and still with the showers coming in across northern
00:22Scotland, an ice risk here.
00:23And down the eastern side of England
00:25will keep showers going through the night as well.
00:27So again, as temperatures tumble,
00:29there could be some ice around.
00:30The showers here will be a real mixture
00:32of rain, sleet, and some snow, particularly inland
00:35and especially over any hills.
00:37And then a zone of wet weather comes through Northern Ireland,
00:40down into Wales and southwest England
00:42through the early hours, and that'll
00:43be a mixture of rain, sleet, and snow too.
00:45May wake up to a covering of snow here.
00:47And of course, wherever we've got
00:49stuff falling out of the skies, with temperatures falling down
00:53to or below freezing, there is the potential
00:55for things to be icy.
00:57These are the temperatures in towns and cities.
00:59Rural areas will be well below freezing, minus 5, minus 6,
01:03in some spots to start Thursday.
01:05So it's a cold start, and we'll have
01:07that mixture of rain, sleet, and snow over Wales,
01:09southwest England, perhaps even a little over the Midlands
01:12to begin with.
01:13But it is clearing down to the southwest
01:16to reveal some sunnier skies.
01:17Showers keeping going across eastern England,
01:19from Lincolnshire down to Norfolk
01:21and across northeast Scotland, certainly through the morning.
01:24But they should all tend to fade away.
01:26So generally becoming dry, and certainly
01:28the bulk of the country having a fine and sunny day.
01:32The winds will be easing as well.
01:34So there will still be a cold breeze first thing.
01:37By the afternoon, temperatures just about ticking up
01:39to 3, 4, maybe 5, 6 degrees, a little milder further west.
01:43And probably feeling a little less cold compared to Wednesday,
01:47because those winds will be easing down somewhat.
01:51Temperatures, though, will again drop on Thursday evening.
01:53We'll see a frost reforming pretty sharply.
01:55But look at this, wet weather coming into Northern Ireland.
01:58Rain here, but across Scotland, as the wet weather
02:01hits the colder air, there could well
02:02be some snowfall down to lower levels for a time,
02:05working from west to east.
02:07But also further south, as this wet weather
02:09hits the colder air over northern England,
02:11certainly over the Trans-Pennine routes,
02:13there could be some snow falling.
02:15And also over the Midlands, and perhaps
02:17into parts of eastern England.
02:18For a time, through the early hours of Friday morning,
02:21we could see some snowfall.
02:24However, as that wet weather moves in,
02:26temperatures will be rising.
02:27So it's pretty much all back to rain
02:29by first thing on Friday morning,
02:30with temperatures back up well into single digits,
02:34and very mild across the southwest,
02:36as well as turning windy.
02:38That all sets us up for a fairly grey, damp, dreary day
02:42across the south.
02:43Still maybe a few flakes of snow early on across East Anglia
02:46and the southeast.
02:47But that all clears away before another zone of wet weather
02:49comes in from the west.
02:51Lots of cloud across the south, but further north,
02:54a much brighter day on Friday.
02:56Sunny spells, generally, for northern England, Scotland,
02:59Northern Ireland, just a few showers in the northwest.
03:02Temperatures around average here, 8, 9, maybe 10 Celsius.
03:05Certainly further south, it'll be a much milder day.
03:08Again, temperatures back up, but there
03:09will be a lot of cloud and some wet weather,
03:12which could turn heavy late in the day across the southwest.
03:15Plenty going on.
