00:00I'm Donald Trump and 12 weeks ago I invited 18 candidates to New York City for the opportunity
00:20to win the dream job of a lifetime.
00:24While living together in a Sweden Trump Tower, the candidates competed against one another
00:31in a variety of tasks.
00:42This is the end of their 12th week and only 5 candidates remain, Kevin, Jennifer, Kelly,
00:50Sandy and Ivana.
00:52But only one will have what it takes to run one of my companies.
00:56Tonight we'll take a look back at some of the highlights.
01:02And I'll show you some of the low points.
01:06You'll look at never before seen moments.
01:15And I'll give you some insight into why I fired each person.
01:21Plus I'll give you a sneak peek at what's left to come in the remaining four weeks.
01:51And I'll give you a sneak peek at what's left to come in the remaining four weeks.
02:18And I'll give you a sneak peek at what's left to come in the remaining four weeks.
02:46Welcome to New York.
02:50It's the meanest city in the world, but it's also the greatest place on earth.
02:55After introducing the candidates to George and Carolyn, I divided the teams into men versus women.
03:02But this year I added an incentive to reward strong leadership.
03:07If your team wins and you find yourself in the boardroom the following week,
03:13your project manager is exempt.
03:15Go up to the suite. I'll see you tomorrow.
03:22Wow.
03:23This is bigger than my dorm room.
03:24Champagne!
03:28To victory!
03:29To winning!
03:30In business, it's important to deal with the unexpected.
03:33So I instructed each team to permanently give up one member who would become the project manager for the other side.
03:41Anyone want to go meet the women?
03:43I mean, I'll do it.
03:44You want to do it?
03:45I'll do it.
03:46Cheers to you.
03:47So Bradford went over to the women and Pamela joined the men.
03:51How does it feel to be a man?
03:52My penis is getting larger with every minute.
03:54The groups picked their name.
03:56Apex.
03:57Apex.
03:58Apex is a great game.
04:00I'm liking Mosaic. Does anybody else like Mosaic?
04:02Who's all for Mosaic?
04:03Mosaic.
04:05Woo!
04:09For their first task, I met the teams at Toys R Us and asked them to create a new toy for Mattel.
04:16Good luck.
04:20When Mosaic set out to meet their target audience...
04:23Hey, bud.
04:24What's up?
04:25Can I ask you a couple of questions?
04:27They floundered.
04:29What kind of toys do you like?
04:30Um...
04:31Like macho toys with guns?
04:33Um...
04:34I don't really care.
04:35What do you think of tanks?
04:37Do you like tanks?
04:39No?
04:40Or battleships?
04:41What do you think about battleships?
04:44Where the hell did that come from?
04:46Hold the cane. Hold the cane.
04:48When you're talking to a child, get down on their level.
04:51Don't tower over them with your cane and be kind of nudging them in the shoulder.
04:55I mean, what is that?
04:57You gonna go away?
04:59I don't know.
05:00I'm kidding.
05:01I didn't throw the kids off that badly.
05:03No?
05:07Apex had a problem of their own when Stacey Jay started acting irrationally.
05:12Did we win?
05:13Dude, I don't know.
05:14Do you guys think we won?
05:15Yeah.
05:16Did someone put something in your drink?
05:17She's pushing him.
05:18She's pushing him.
05:19All right, you know what?
05:20Dude, you need to take a nap.
05:21We won, all right?
05:22That's what I'm saying.
05:23I think we won, so let's go.
05:24We won, so let's just go and claim our prize.
05:26It brought our team down.
05:28There was anxiety, and it was just nuttiness.
05:31It was psychotic.
05:33And when Ivana exposed an accounting error...
05:35I don't understand why we're missing 85 cents.
05:37Someone's got to change on that.
05:38Stacey Jay suggested a bizarre solution.
05:41See that guy right there blowing me a kiss?
05:44See him blowing me a kiss?
05:45Yeah.
05:46See what?
05:47He'll give us 85 cents.
05:4885 cents.
05:51When we walk out of here, we're even.
05:53Trust me.
05:54I found out later she even tried to take the sign from the conference room.
05:58I actually have an ethical issue taking that sign.
06:00Really?
06:01Okay, fine.
06:02It's Mattel's sign.
06:03No, but it would be like the first task.
06:05It's a souvenir, you know?
06:07All right, fine.
06:08Now I think you've flipped your nut.
06:09Now you've confirmed it.
06:12In the end, Apex created a remote-controlled car with removable parts.
06:17The winner is Apex.
06:21So, Bradford, as far as you're concerned, next week you can't be fired.
06:26Love it.
06:27So you're okay.
06:32Mosaic joined me in the boardroom where the team agreed that Rob was the weakest link.
06:37I think they all know that in the right capacity, in the right task, that I'm invaluable.
06:41I was not utilizing...
06:42Here's the situation.
06:43Is that your fault?
06:44I volunteered...
06:45Excuse me?
06:46Everybody virtually said, you just didn't contribute, you weren't a go-getter.
06:51You kept saying, well, sort of like I wasn't asked.
06:54You don't have to be asked.
06:55To do a job, you really don't have to be asked.
06:59Rob, you're fired.
07:04I was trying to be a little bit calm, take some notes, take some inventory, get to know these people, and then turn on the heat.
07:10I should have turned on the heat as soon as I walked in the door.
07:13I should have turned on the heat as soon as I walked in the door, day one, second one.
07:20I fired Rob because nobody wanted to listen to his ideas, but you know what?
07:24He's going to be a successful guy someday.
07:29Designing a great product is tough, but selling that product is even harder.
07:34In week two, I wanted the teams to go back to basics.
07:37I asked them to make their own ice cream and sell it.
07:44For the creation of their flavor, Mosaic used a hands-on approach.
07:48If it's got gut, squeeze it.
07:51It's easier to actually scoop it with your hands, otherwise you don't really get it out.
07:58Apex worked with an ice cream shop to increase sales.
08:01There we go.
08:02We're going to try your product today.
08:03Let's see how it goes.
08:04We'll give it a try.
08:05But the deal almost melted.
08:10You're the one that said that you just wanted two of us.
08:12No, that's not what we said.
08:13It's Rob.
08:14He did.
08:15You weren't there.
08:16What are you trying to divide me and my partner?
08:18It's true.
08:19You know what?
08:20Here we go.
08:21For whatever reason, they are absolutely calling us liars.
08:23The last thing I would do is lie to anyone.
08:26I understand that we misunderstood what you wanted when we were negotiating the deal.
08:31I really want to work this out.
08:33Do you know what?
08:34Let's just get going.
08:35We're wasting time.
08:36It's three o'clock.
08:37We'll sell until four o'clock and see how it goes.
08:38Okay?
08:39Okay.
08:40We have a phenomenal new product carried exclusively at this store called Red Velvet Cake Ice Cream.
08:45Fantastic new flavor of ice cream in here called Red Velvet Cake.
08:47Keep that in mind.
08:48It's red raspberries and white chocolate.
08:50Everybody loves that.
08:54The parade up to the best ice cream in the world.
08:58Mosaics stuck to the street to peddle their product.
09:01Come on over.
09:02Vanilla chocolate donut dream.
09:04We're aggressive.
09:05We're running out.
09:06We're grabbing people.
09:07We're selling.
09:08No nonsense.
09:09We're closing up.
09:10We'll sell you the scooper and the cups.
09:11You make $150 on the other corner.
09:20Apex lost the second task.
09:23And in the boardroom, Bradford flaunted careless bravado.
09:27I think that I performed up to my abilities on this task.
09:30I'd be willing to waive my exemption.
09:35Bradford, I think it's stupid what you said.
09:37So what I'm going to do is I'm going to accept it.
09:39That's fine, Mr. Trump.
09:40And you make it fire tonight.
09:41That's fine.
09:42Okay, good.
09:43You're all in the hunt.
09:44And even though Apex unanimously pointed the finger at one person,
09:47who would you fire?
09:48Stacey.
09:49Stacey.
09:50Stacey's got to go.
09:51Honestly, I don't know where this is coming from.
09:53Bradford was called out for his brash decision.
09:56Bradford made a stupid, impulsive, life-threatening decision
10:00that, frankly, if you were running a company
10:03and made that kind of a decision,
10:05you would destroy that company instantaneously.
10:08Bradford, you're fired.
10:10Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
10:14I knew I stuck my neck out.
10:15And listen, every time you stick your neck out,
10:18you're going to get times when you get it cut off.
10:20At the time, I felt it was the right decision.
10:23In retrospect, it was a mistake.
10:25So you live with it.
10:27Bradford did a very foolish thing.
10:29He put himself on the line unnecessarily.
10:32It was a foolish move.
10:34He knew it. I knew it. He was fired.
10:38Back in the suite, Stacey J. told Elizabeth
10:41what went down in the boardroom.
10:43Jennifer's going crazy talking to Ivana, just going crazy.
10:46Why would you bring me in?
10:47If anyone, you should have brought Elizabeth in.
10:49I thought I trusted Ivana,
10:51but there's a lot of double-talk going on.
10:54So all of a sudden, things are shifting.
10:57I just heard that you said that I should have been in the boardroom.
11:00I said that you should be in the boardroom?
11:02Everybody conflicts with what everybody says.
11:04We've got to move on.
11:08I can't believe we're missing this.
11:10For Apex, the argument was just the beginning
11:13of a long road of infighting
11:15that would keep going and going and going.
11:18Maria should be in the boardroom.
11:20Take it down.
11:28I often tell people that you can have the best product on the market,
11:31but to sell it, you have to get the public excited.
11:36In week three, I asked the candidates
11:38to promote a new toothpaste for Procter & Gamble.
11:41We're going to see who can create the most buzz
11:46for Crest Vanilla Mint Toothpaste.
11:52Apex came up with an impressive campaign.
11:55We've got a special guest here for you today,
11:57and he wants to brush his teeth with this new toothpaste.
12:01Mike Piazza is like Mr. New York.
12:03You can't not love Mike Piazza.
12:05I've been using Crest since I can remember,
12:08and I've never had a cavity in my life.
12:10I'm like, oh, not only was that perfect for our campaign right now,
12:13but he's just flawless.
12:18But a rookie mistake from Maria.
12:20We were over budget by $5,000
12:22because there wasn't clarity on the negotiations
12:24with this particular vendor.
12:26Sent Apex back to the boardroom.
12:29And for the first time, the women agreed on one thing.
12:33On task one, Stacy J. did act very odd.
12:40It was borderline schizophrenic.
12:42I was absolutely horrified.
12:44Stacy, I just can't have a loose cannon on my hands.
12:48You're fired.
12:53In terms of the women, a lot of them have a lot of negative qualities,
12:57but that's people.
12:58Everyone has good and bad sides to themselves.
13:01But overall, I had one of the best times of my life here.
13:06Stacy J. was fired because the whole team was afraid of her.
13:09A lot of people criticized me
13:11because I listened to the people on her team.
13:13But the fact is, in life and in business,
13:16you do listen to people that are around you.
13:18Everything. You listen. You have to listen.
13:23Back in the suite, the gloves came off.
13:25None of you guys are equipped to know
13:26whether or not she's actually psychologically unstable.
13:28Have any of your teammates ever made you feel threatened?
13:30Yes, yes, but we were sitting there saying
13:32when it happened that we felt threatened,
13:34and we said it today in the boardroom that we felt threatened,
13:36but nobody ponied up and went and did anything in between.
13:39Stacy J. is not the reason we lost this task.
13:41I just think Elizabeth did a terrible job as a project manager.
13:45She dodged a bullet.
13:46She was responsible for two things,
13:48getting the product and distributing the product.
13:50Neither one of those two things were done.
13:52Whoever it was, Carolyn or Donald Trump,
13:53said that's not why the team lost.
13:55Yes, they said that.
13:56But you still brought her in.
13:57There was this huge misunderstanding
13:59about why I took Stacy J. into the boardroom.
14:02They sort of blamed just everything on me.
14:05You couldn't make any decisions,
14:07which is why it took so long.
14:09And I'm not getting in your sandbox.
14:11I'm not getting in the sandbox with you, Elizabeth. Grow up.
14:13This is crazy.
14:14I think the women largely lack emotional intelligence.
14:18They have a hard time controlling their emotions
14:21You're the one that lied to her
14:22about me talking about her at the boardroom.
14:24What are you talking about?
14:25You will not be able to walk away angelic
14:27no matter how much you try today.
14:28What are you talking about?
14:29I'm not going to be able to communicate with her ever again
14:31because evidently whatever I say
14:33is completely misconstrued and twisted,
14:35and then I am called a liar nonstop.
14:38I felt like I had been kicked in the stomach,
14:42and I was not sure I was going to be able to get up.
14:51For their next task,
14:52the teams were told to turn an empty space into a restaurant.
14:56The winning team will be the one
14:58that gets the highest Zagat ratings
15:01based on their customer reviews.
15:04That night,
15:05Gen C pushed her teammates completely over the edge.
15:09Are you there?
15:10Go ahead, what?
15:11I know that you guys are super busy.
15:12I really may need to give beverages to you.
15:15We're taking care of everything.
15:18Are you there?
15:19Yeah, we're here.
15:21For Gen C to tell me that she's too busy
15:24managing everything that's going on is a joke to me.
15:28She will not lift up one lazy little porky finger of hers
15:32to do any hard work.
15:33Gen, Gen, this is Ivana.
15:35What is Sandy working on?
15:36What is Elizabeth working on?
15:37What are you working on?
15:39Like everything.
15:40We are struggling with this ingredient list,
15:43contacting all the vendors,
15:44getting all the equipment,
15:45making sure it's all there
15:46so we can actually prepare food.
15:48Now what would be great
15:49is if you as leader would take over beverages.
15:51If you give it to us, we're going to f*** it up.
15:55Okay.
15:56Hello?
15:58Hello?
16:03Both teams packed their restaurants for the opening night,
16:06but Mosaic really connected with their customers.
16:09This is the charred big eye tuna.
16:11This is the charred big eye tuna.
16:14And they were rewarded with outstanding reviews.
16:20Carolyn, how'd Mosaic do?
16:22Overall, fans say once they work out the kinks,
16:25this could become star restaurant.
16:28Very impressive.
16:29We are now moving up to higher octane fuel.
16:32With their third straight loss,
16:34Apex boiled over.
16:36Mr. Trump, she's a finger pointer,
16:37and she never points the finger at herself.
16:39Why can't you women get along?
16:41It's amazing.
16:42Can you stop interrupting?
16:44Gen, Gen, easy.
16:48Jennifer, you chose not to be a leader.
16:51Your entire team hated you.
16:53This is really easy.
16:54You're fired.
16:58I thought, I'm smart.
17:00I can do this.
17:01I am ultimately the most determined person that I know
17:04in my world.
17:06However, they're all like that.
17:08Everyone was strong, and they gave me a run for my money.
17:11Gen C was fired because her whole team hated her.
17:14And in the boardroom, she'd interrupt me,
17:16she'd interrupt Carolyn, George, everybody.
17:19She was an interrupter.
17:20She wasn't good.
17:24Constant bickering was tearing Apex apart.
17:27So I asked Pamela, a strong leader,
17:30to switch teams and become the project manager for the women.
17:34We're going to see if you can pull this whole mess together.
17:36It's not going to be easy.
17:38This week, your task is to go to the headquarters of QVC,
17:42pick a product, and then you're going to appear
17:45on live television, selling the product.
17:50Immediately, Pamela tried to whip Apex into shape.
17:53I don't want to talk about hair, makeup, shoes, boys.
17:56I don't want to talk about it.
17:57All I want you to talk about is work.
17:59Because every time you're talking about something else,
18:01it's time that you're not thinking about work.
18:03Women don't respond well.
18:05It's time that you're not thinking about work.
18:07Women don't respond well to other women telling them what to do.
18:10So you have to massage it and do it gently and nicely.
18:14I don't know what's happened in the past.
18:16Here's what I want you to know.
18:17I don't f***ing care.
18:19I don't care.
18:20Maybe Pamela should have cared just a little more.
18:23Apex lost by the slimmest of margins.
18:26Mosaic wins by $10 and $40.
18:30And everybody ganged up on her.
18:35She's smug.
18:36She's joked about Donald Trump being her apprentice.
18:39Just irreverent to the highest level that you could possibly imagine.
18:43Just doesn't care.
18:45She was smiling and smirking after you guys were defeated,
18:48thinking that she's above being kicked out.
18:51As soon as we lost the task,
18:53it was like a full-on attack from the guys,
18:57bombarding us with,
18:59Pamela needs to go.
19:01Pamela needs to go.
19:02Pamela needs to go.
19:04You have a spider of great poison and cunning in your presence,
19:09and you now are in a position to remove that threat.
19:14Raj. Raj, sit.
19:16She'll kill us.
19:17One by one.
19:18She'll suck your blood until you die.
19:20The guys are practically unanimous
19:22on Pamela's participation within a team setting,
19:26and it's obviously valuable information
19:28that we should take into consideration with the boardroom.
19:32Pamela, Pamela.
19:34You went to Wharton, you went to Harvard,
19:36and you lost again.
19:37We tied.
19:38Well, you didn't tie.
19:39You lost by $10,
19:40which doesn't sound like a lot,
19:41but it is a loss.
19:42To me, it was a tie.
19:44Pamela was wrong.
19:45It wasn't a tie.
19:46$10 today could be $10 million tomorrow.
19:50I totally disagree with your choices,
19:52and you don't have a good assessment of people.
19:54Pamela, you're fired.
19:59I walk into this team,
20:00pull them together,
20:01get them to behave like professionals, right,
20:04get them to stop some of their backstabbing,
20:06get them to actually function,
20:07and we lose by $10.
20:09So when I got fired, I was stunned.
20:11It never even occurred to me.
20:13I fired Pamela because she wanted to be a dictator,
20:16but you know what?
20:17Her team didn't respect her.
20:18She wasn't a dictator that people listened to,
20:21and that was just no good.
20:27For their next task,
20:28I introduced the candidates to the world of fashion.
20:31I want you to produce a new clothing line.
20:34The team that earns the most money
20:37selling their fashion line will be the winner.
20:41Good luck.
20:46There you go.
20:49That's awesome.
20:50For the women, the task was a dream come true.
20:53Go, Jen.
20:54Show us what you got.
20:55Show us what you got.
20:56And I was glad to see them finally working together.
20:59We turned into little 9-year-old girls
21:00playing dress-up again.
21:01Yes.
21:07Raj enjoyed playing dress-up as well.
21:09Hey, Raj.
21:10Hi, how are you?
21:11Very well, thank you.
21:12Nice to meet you.
21:13Raj, you're wearing your pajamas.
21:14Did you realize that?
21:15This is not pajamas.
21:16It's a snuffing jacket.
21:17It's very chic.
21:18Have you met the designer?
21:19It's mostly to her credit.
21:20Oh, it is? Really?
21:21Yes.
21:22All right.
21:23For some reason, I took you for the designer.
21:24No.
21:25That's not funny.
21:26No, no.
21:31When the sales were tallied,
21:33Apex walked away with a victory.
21:35The women more than tripled what the men did.
21:37They sold $22,000 on $60.
21:42Finally.
21:43Finally.
21:46The men were called to the boardroom
21:48where I questioned John's leadership skills.
21:51You made some bad decisions.
21:53I did.
21:54And you admit that you made some bad decisions.
21:56John, you're fired.
22:02I guess if you're going to get fired,
22:03you might as well get fired by Trump, huh?
22:05These people, no matter how they look,
22:08in the end, are tremendously talented.
22:10I've made some awesome friends.
22:11It's been a tremendous experience,
22:13and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
22:16John was a tough call.
22:17It was very, very close.
22:19The fact is that the pricing got all messed up.
22:22I have to say, it was probably John's fault.
22:25But that was not an easy firing.
22:28It's important that people work well together in any group.
22:31So I called the candidates back to the boardroom
22:34for a corporate restructure.
22:36We're going to mix the teams.
22:38The new Apex would be Jennifer, Elizabeth,
22:41Ivana, Raj, Chris, and Kevin.
22:44The new Mosaic would include
22:46Wes, Andy, Kelly, Sandy, Maria, and Stacey.
22:51So now we're going to have a real competition.
22:55With the teams mixed up, I hoped things would improve.
22:59But for some of the candidates, it only got worse.
23:04Sometimes when a team is struggling to meet its goals,
23:08a little change can make a world of difference.
23:11Andy and Wes had high hopes for the new Mosaic.
23:14I feel good because I feel like we got the smartest kid.
23:17We got Kelly. He's very good.
23:19He's good.
23:21100%.
23:23And I think Sandy's going to be a workhorse.
23:27As annoying as Stacey is, she's a good negotiator.
23:31That's good.
23:32So I think that we've got a really,
23:34I think we'll be a strong group.
23:36I need to win. You need to win. We need to win.
23:39That's it.
23:43In Central Park, I gave the teams their next task.
23:48I'm sending you into the streets of New York
23:50to create a dog service business.
23:59Apex got off to a slow start
24:01by seeking advice from a local dog groomer.
24:04Do you think people will wash their dogs
24:06with the temperature around 70 degrees outside, or is it too cold?
24:08So you have to have people that know when to do it.
24:10They have to know the animal.
24:11You just can't take an animal like this and stick him in a tub.
24:14His expert advice was to say
24:16it was impossible to do what we were planning to do.
24:19And you just can't poke him and touch him and do things to him.
24:22You have to be very careful.
24:23Like this dog here,
24:24if you have somebody just going in to wash him to raise money,
24:26and you go poking this dog here,
24:28this eye will pop right out of the socket.
24:30Gotcha.
24:31This dog has an underbite.
24:32Suppose it doesn't like being tugged like this.
24:34He had told us,
24:35good luck, guys, but you're never going to get it done.
24:39Mosaic's dog washing business was dirty work for everyone except Stacy.
24:44It annoyed me that Stacy didn't at least come up to me and say,
24:47Sandy, can I just take over for a minute?
24:49She could care less.
24:50Sandy will take good care of you.
24:52I'm not really a huge dog person.
24:54I didn't grow up with a dog.
24:55This is not my ideal task.
24:57Sandy, we have a new customer.
24:59She was like, I'm so filthy.
25:02And I was like, are you kidding me?
25:05I've been in dog crap all day.
25:08There we go.
25:13Sandy's hard work couldn't save her team.
25:16Apex was the clear winner.
25:18Almost three times as much profit.
25:21Congratulations, Apex.
25:22That's really a great job.
25:25Later, when Mosaic faced me in the boardroom,
25:28I confronted Stacy about her lousy performance.
25:31You know, you never take responsibility.
25:33I would love to be project manager.
25:35I would love to be project manager.
25:37Give me the opportunity to lead a team.
25:39We're not going to give you the opportunity to be PM.
25:41You have to do that yourself.
25:42You have to convince other people to follow,
25:44even if you're not the project manager.
25:46You know, the thing I really dislike, Stacy,
25:48and this is week after week, this isn't just now,
25:50is that you're always complaining.
25:52Stacy, you're fired.
25:57I'm a little person with a huge personality,
26:00and I'm smart.
26:01I have a lot to say.
26:02Most importantly, what I've learned during this experience,
26:05is when you're in a room with extreme and intense personalities,
26:09sometimes it's just best to listen.
26:13Stacy was fired because she got on everybody's nerves,
26:16including mine.
26:18I just couldn't take her anymore.
26:24In week eight, I sent the candidates
26:26to Donnie Deutsch's advertising agency for their next task.
26:30We want you to do a recruitment campaign
26:32for the New York Police Department.
26:34The real core of this assignment
26:36is hitting people here.
26:43Apex had trouble agreeing on the idea for their campaign.
26:47You're talking about guys between 19 years old and 22.
26:50Not just men. It's also women.
26:52You do not need to debate right now.
26:54Let me give you the logic.
26:55I got your logic, and I got her logic.
26:57No, the logic behind the military.
26:58No, I've heard it.
26:59Do you want us to have a discussion about it?
27:01No, I do not.
27:02I just wanted them to present.
27:04Just say how it's going to be.
27:06Tell us how it's going to be.
27:07It needs to change more than just what we're talking about.
27:09Make a decision.
27:10Tell us this is how it's going to be.
27:12I am going to work with them and make a decision.
27:14Kevin and Ivana felt Elizabeth was an inept manager.
27:18She's like, now I like it.
27:19Like, I don't understand.
27:20She didn't like it before, she likes it now.
27:21Because it's like, you say one thing,
27:23she tries to take it another direction.
27:24As soon as you go down that direction, she takes you back.
27:28It's like this.
27:29She did this before?
27:30Yes.
27:33Apex's campaign flopped with the agents.
27:43How did they do, John?
27:44Donald, this one wasn't even close.
27:46Apex turned New York into a police state.
27:49You can't do an effective recruiting campaign,
27:51and at the same time, freak 12 million New Yorkers out.
27:54Mosaic wins it by a landslide here.
27:58In the boardroom, the team blamed their loss
28:01on the indecisiveness of Elizabeth.
28:03Elizabeth, all of your people that you were leading,
28:06good people, are saying you were terrible.
28:08Yeah, well, they're going to say that.
28:10I don't know, you just don't have a lot of something.
28:13Let me ask you, would you pick two people or three people
28:16to come back to the boardroom?
28:17Two.
28:18Honestly, Elizabeth, I just don't think it's necessary.
28:23You're fired.
28:27I allowed what other people thought about me
28:30to affect me to such a degree
28:32that it impaired my ability to kind of function.
28:35And I didn't realize that I do that in life.
28:38And I think looking back, I kind of do.
28:41Elizabeth totally lost control of her team.
28:44Yes, she was indecisive, but nobody respected her.
28:48I was badly criticized for not having her come back
28:51with two other members.
28:52But the fact is, it was a no-brainer.
28:55Elizabeth had to go.
29:01In Week 9, each team was given $20,000 to renovate a home.
29:06The winning team is the one that increases their home's value
29:11by the highest percentage.
29:14As an added twist for this week's task,
29:16I brought back the first four candidates that I fired.
29:20Rob and Jennifer will be working with Mosaic.
29:25Bradford and Stacy are coming back to work with Apex.
29:31It's going to be very interesting to see how everything works out.
29:41It's important to have a plan,
29:43but unforeseen obstacles can often get in the way.
29:47When Apex started renovating their home,
29:50they were surprised to find it was already occupied.
29:54There's a bird's nest in the air conditioner.
29:56Okay, but be careful about...
29:58You can't just take them in your hand like that.
30:00You've got to get a blanket or something.
30:01This bird is fine. It's going to survive.
30:03Wait, Ivana, Ivana, watch out.
30:05The nest is out, and the baby's everywhere.
30:08That little baby.
30:10It's okay.
30:12You want to scoop it into something
30:14so you're not, like, crushing it in your hand.
30:16He doesn't want to. He's trying to get the bird.
30:19Kevin, why don't you get the baby?
30:20We'll put the two babies in the cooker.
30:23You'd think we had killed them.
30:26There they go, all happy and nice.
30:29Yeah, I'm going to paint this a different color, too.
30:31Raj may have saved the bird's home,
30:33but he was about to wreck Apex's.
30:36As project manager, he made one bad decision.
30:39You're going to make the four-bedroom house
30:41a three-bedroom house?
30:42Yeah.
30:43The wrong bloody contractor?
30:46The appraisers agreed,
30:48and Apex ended up in the boardroom.
30:52Raj, I think you made a lot of mistakes.
30:55Raj, I think you made a lot of mistakes.
30:57I accept that I made mistakes.
30:59Raj, you're fired.
31:03I'm not brokenhearted in the least that I was fired.
31:06I lost a real estate task to a wedding planner.
31:10I deserve to be fired.
31:13America has not seen the end of Raj.
31:16Everybody liked Raj, including me.
31:19He was a character.
31:20He dressed differently, he looked different,
31:23and maybe above all, he acted differently.
31:26But Raj destroyed the value of the house
31:29and caused his team probably to lose.
31:35For their next task, I asked the teams
31:37to create a bridal shop from the ground up.
31:41This is going to be the get-naked-and-try-your-dress-on spot.
31:45Do we have to have something that...
31:48No, just take your dress off and you go.
31:50This is going to have to be covered
31:52with some sort of sheet or something.
31:54It's a hazard to have these steps here
31:56without a chain or anything,
31:57because it's going to be a frenzy back here,
31:59and it's dangerous.
32:00This bathroom needs to be cleaned up.
32:01Does it really have to be cleaned up?
32:02Yes.
32:03Okay, got it.
32:04We need a swifter, because if these dresses are white,
32:06they're going to get dirty.
32:07We need to clean these floors.
32:09Andy got the worst job, but he made the best of it.
32:13I cleaned the bathroom,
32:14and basically we had a lot of extra toilet paper left over,
32:18three-ply, only the best.
32:19And I was thinking to myself,
32:20if I'm getting married,
32:21what's something that I would want to see?
32:22And I actually created a toilet paper pyramid
32:25as an elegant way, when they enter the bathroom,
32:27to maintain that wedding experience.
32:34As project manager for Apex,
32:36Chris failed to inspire his team.
32:38The problem is, there's no way you're going to buy gowns,
32:41and then come in and advertise,
32:42and then sell them, and they're going to fit,
32:44and it's going to be the same size.
32:45This is really, really, really a very tough task.
32:49Almost impossible.
32:50To put up your hands that early in the game
32:54is pathetic.
33:00Mosaic encountered problems of their own
33:02when Sandy and Maria battled for center stage.
33:05We really worked hard to get you
33:06as many brides in here as possible,
33:08so the goal is to sell,
33:09and for everybody to walk out of here
33:11without having to take any gowns back to their showrooms.
33:13So I know that's a high goal, but that's okay.
33:16Once I gave this pep talk, and I thought it went great,
33:18Maria takes the floor and totally boasts on herself.
33:23I have been sewing since third grade.
33:25I have a minor in home economics,
33:26and sew tailored suits and do alterations
33:28in a lot of sewing in my adult life.
33:29I'm absolutely addicted to fabrics,
33:31and would like to get a master's
33:32and work in textiles.
33:33Instead, I got an MBA.
33:34So, in the meantime, I'm very qualified
33:36to talk about these things,
33:37and I've also been in retail in Southern California
33:40and retail management,
33:41so I'm all about the sale.
33:42Maria is not used to being on the back burner.
33:45Literally, the whole time,
33:46I'm like gagged at the mouth.
33:48I think it was just uncalled for and unnecessary.
33:53When the sales were tallied up,
33:55there was a clear winner.
33:56Mosaic did very well.
33:57They had a total profit of $12,788.94.
34:02Wow.
34:03So you did 12 times more than Apex did.
34:06Very impressive.
34:07And later, Apex pointed the finger at Chris.
34:11When I see my PM, Chris,
34:13throwing up his hand saying,
34:14this task is impossible,
34:16doesn't make me feel so great.
34:17Did you feel that, Chris?
34:19Right in the beginning, yes, I did.
34:20Kevin, who would you fire?
34:22I would fire Chris.
34:23I would fire Chris as well.
34:25Listen, Chris, you didn't have any spark,
34:28and you got creamed,
34:30and I can't believe you led the team so badly.
34:32And Chris, you're fired.
34:38It was just a process of elimination.
34:40I was on the chopping block,
34:41and I didn't deliver.
34:42I'm not a wedding dress expert.
34:43I didn't do a good job,
34:44and I knew I didn't do a good job.
34:46At the end of the day, I met a lot of people,
34:47I learned a lot of things,
34:49and you can't take that away.
34:51Chris wanted so badly to be the project manager,
34:54and at the end of the day,
34:56he just got annihilated.
34:57His team lost so badly, I had no choice.
35:00I said, Chris, you're fired.
35:06In week 11, Kelly moved to Apex
35:09to balance out the teams,
35:11and I asked the candidates
35:12to develop an in-store catalog for Levi's.
35:15The team to deliver the most innovative
35:18and exciting catalog will be the winner.
35:22Later in the day,
35:23Wes found Apex's idea in the copy machine.
35:27Look what they're doing.
35:29That's what they're doing?
35:31I found that.
35:32Oh, they're going to do a spin wheel.
35:34I bet.
35:35So when you move it,
35:36you see the graphic on top.
35:38I think we need to use this information to our advantage,
35:40and I've never said that before.
35:41You know, it's stupid for the other team
35:43to leave that kind of stuff behind,
35:44but we're smart.
35:45We can do better than that.
35:46Sandy has a great idea.
35:48This is what we're going to do.
35:49We're going to have the main headings, okay?
35:51Slim, classic, regular, and boot,
35:53whatever they are.
35:54We came up with this windowpane technique
35:56that we can list the different cuts of the jeans
35:59and then the different styles,
36:00and it will be easy for the consumer to read it.
36:02So I think we came up with an even better idea,
36:04to be honest.
36:06Bitchy, bitchy, bitchy, though.
36:08Give us as much butt attitude as you can.
36:10We've got to have like five or seven shots per person
36:12if we're going to do all this.
36:13We still have like a few jeans to get through.
36:15We needed to take three to five pictures per person,
36:17and then sometimes we were taking 20 pictures,
36:1930 pictures per person,
36:20and we had deadlines to meet.
36:21So I was constantly telling Wes,
36:22you've got to put your foot down.
36:24That's okay, next.
36:25Okay, next, next.
36:26I'll do this, I'll do this.
36:28I understand, I understand.
36:30Do not get in my freaking face.
36:32Get this done.
36:33I understand.
36:34Back off.
36:40Both teams finished their headings.
36:43Both teams finished their catalogs,
36:45but Apex grabbed the Levi executives
36:47by the seat of their pants.
36:49Apex, you win.
36:51Good job, Apex, that's very good.
36:53Mosaic, sorry to tell you folks,
36:56but I'll see you back in the boardroom.
36:58Somebody will be fired.
37:02In the boardroom, I asked Wes what he would do
37:04if he was in my position.
37:06I would fire Maria because she has the inability
37:08to work as a productive team member
37:11and in life, we all work within teams
37:13even though we are leaders.
37:15Maria, you're fired.
37:18Maria deserved to be fired,
37:20but she was empowered by Wes,
37:22and I couldn't let that go.
37:24Wes, you were a terrible leader.
37:26You're fired also.
37:30It was the first time when I broke my own motto.
37:33Under-promise, over-deliver.
37:35We made sure on this one we over-promised
37:37and we under-delivered.
37:39When you take on as much responsibility as the two of us did,
37:41you know, it made a lot of sense.
37:43I'm just glad that when I was fired, he came with me.
37:45Things were justified.
37:47Maria was fired because she was always yelling at Wes.
37:50She was out of control, very tough,
37:52but Wes was the leader,
37:54and you have to control tough people.
37:56He didn't show leadership quality,
37:59so I fired them both.
38:01They were both fine, but not great.
38:03They're not what I was looking for.
38:05With Wes and Maria gone,
38:07Sandy and Andy were left to run Mosaic,
38:09and I was curious to see
38:11how they'd choose a project manager.
38:13You flip it, I'll call it in the air.
38:15Why do you get to call it?
38:17What are you going to call it, heads or tails?
38:19You're flipping, I'll call it in the air.
38:21I have a lucky side, I want to call it.
38:23Flip it. You want to call it?
38:25Tails.
38:27You got to flip it, it might hit the ground.
38:29Tails.
38:31Yeah, baby!
38:34Jen and I are dying for this win,
38:36and we're going to work really hard together,
38:38and it might be that we get somebody else from Apex
38:40to come over our team, and it might not,
38:42but either way, we're going to stick together
38:44and we're going to pull a win.
38:46Andy, what's that?
38:48Doesn't matter, we're going to win.
38:53Sandy was right.
38:55The next day, Apex gave up one member
38:57to even out the sides.
38:59We're going to send Jen to the other team.
39:03For their next task, I asked the candidates
39:05to design a new bottle for Pepsi Edge.
39:10And at Mosaic, Andy failed to motivate his team.
39:13Does this have to do with our deadline?
39:15We're going to have to, no, once it's done, it's done.
39:17Okay, so let's eat, because I know you guys are starving.
39:20Okay, no one eats until 9. I'm sorry, is that cool?
39:22We really do need to eat.
39:24Pizza had come, and I'd made the decision
39:26to not let the pizza come into the room
39:28until after we had finished the deadline.
39:30If you relax on this design team,
39:32you cannot meet these deadlines.
39:34Can you smell the anxiety in the room?
39:37I smell a pizza out in the hallway.
39:39I know.
39:40All right, we'll get to it.
39:42I think it's a little ridiculous. Andy's like a slave driver.
39:44He won't let anybody eat the pizza.
39:46It's just kind of sitting out in the hallway.
39:48So we can smell it, but not eat it.
39:51And when the teams presented their designs
39:54to Pepsi's marketing department,
39:56Apex had a distinct edge of a mosaic.
39:59I have to say, Apex is the winner.
40:01Shut the box!
40:05In the boardroom, Sandy accused Andy and Jennifer
40:08of plotting against her.
40:10So you guys aligned this morning.
40:11This is not true.
40:12Why didn't you come to the boardroom?
40:14I'm sorry.
40:15I'm sorry.
40:17So you guys aligned this morning.
40:18This is not true.
40:20Because I wanted to tell Jen that she was strong.
40:22So she can come in here and back you up, Andy?
40:24And Andy failed to defend himself.
40:26You let Jen know before you walked in here
40:28that you were choosing her.
40:29So she had all day to back you up.
40:31No, no, no.
40:32That makes a lot of sense.
40:33She had all day to ponder it and back you up.
40:35Building an alliance and coming in here,
40:37and Andy not being able to stand up for himself.
40:39Andy, you're just being pounded on.
40:41You're being out-debated.
40:42You're fired.
40:45If I had to do it over again,
40:47I would not have let Jen and Sandy
40:48just control all the floor time
40:50when it came to talking.
40:51That's never a good situation
40:52when you're just silent for that long.
40:54I got to fight for my life
40:55every single week when I lost,
40:57and I don't think I would change it for anything.
40:59I mean, it was awesome.
41:01That's the truth.
41:02I mean, that's just the truth.
41:04Andy was a great guy
41:06who I truly hated to fire.
41:08He had a wonderful Harvard education.
41:10He couldn't have been smarter.
41:12He was young.
41:13He was immature, however,
41:14and in the end,
41:16his teammates just ran over him.
41:18But you know what?
41:19Andy's going to be a great success someday.
41:24With Andy gone,
41:25only five candidates remain.
41:27Kevin, Jennifer, Kelly, Sandy, and Ivana.
41:33In the coming weeks,
41:34they'll face some of their most difficult tasks yet.
41:38Salute.
41:39The stakes are high,
41:41but only one of these candidates
41:43will work as an executive
41:44in one of my companies.
41:46Who will succeed,

42:13you don't have the energy.

42:20and you have tremendous energy.
