00:00Previously on The Apprentice, Chris was determined to lead Apex to a victory.
00:05I'm project manager next task.
00:07He got the call to the helm.
00:08Put up a shot up, bro.
00:09Sink or swim.
00:10Sink or swim.
00:11The teams were challenged to create their own bridal shop.
00:15The winning team is the team that earns the greatest profit.
00:20Good luck.
00:21Project manager Kelly knew Mosaic had an ace up its sleeve.
00:25Happened to have a ringer on the team.
00:27Sandy's business is running a bridal store.
00:30The icing on this cake is her ability to sell a woman a dress.
00:33Yeah.
00:34Can you imagine Chris Russo trying to sell a wedding dress?
00:37And Chris was quick to throw in the towel.
00:40This is almost impossible.
00:41I would not be surprised if both teams lose money.
00:46In the end, Mosaic massacred Apex in a massive blowout.
00:50So you did 12 times more than Apex did.
00:53Very impressive.
00:54Later in the boardroom, Chris let Jennifer completely off the hook.
00:58Out of the bad job that we did, I think Jen did the best.
01:01Angering Kevin and Ivana.
01:04Unbelievable.
01:05Why would you protect her?
01:06She always skates by.
01:07She dupes you, man.
01:08She got you.
01:09And Chris was called out for his failed leadership.
01:11Chris, last week you complained that this team was a mess and that you could straighten it out.
01:17And then you let Jennifer go.
01:18She continues to slip under the radar.
01:21I can't believe that you let her go.
01:23And I can't believe you led the team so badly.
01:25And Chris, you're fired.
01:28Eight candidates are left.
01:30Who will be fired this week?
01:53Some people really need it.
01:56Listen to me, y'all.
01:58Do things, do things, do things.
02:01Bad things, baby.
02:05Dollar bills, y'all.
02:07Come on.
02:08That deal, oh, deal.
02:12Make great almighty dollars.
02:16I don't know that money.
02:20Give me a nickel, brother.
02:22Can you buy that?
02:25Money can drive some people out of their mind.
02:32No good.
02:33No good.
02:34Money.
02:35Money, money, money, money.
02:39Money.
02:53Money.
02:58Who's coming back?
02:59Ivana's been there a lot.
03:00Kevin's been there a lot.
03:01Chris had been somewhat lackluster on the task.
03:04He had really lacked energy.
03:05And I think we all knew that Chris was going to go at some point soon.
03:08So this seemed like the right time for him to go.
03:12Ivana and?
03:14Kevin.
03:16Yo, bro.
03:18Hello.
03:19Welcome back.
03:20Hi.
03:21How'd it go?
03:22I need a glass of wine.
03:25He's like, I'm actually good friends with Kevin and Ivana.
03:28But I'm keeping them.
03:29But I'm keeping them in the boardroom.
03:30And even though I'm superficially friends with Jen,
03:32I'm sending her back up the suite.
03:34I'll take it.
03:35I was pissed that Chris brought Kevin and I into the boardroom
03:38and sent Jen back up to the suite.
03:40I think he was probably falling prey to her hypnotic fembot spell.
03:45Maybe that's your secret, Jen.
03:46You know how to dog somebody out in a really nice way.
03:50You're like, what?
04:15Hello?
04:16Hi, good morning. It's Rona.
04:18Mr. Trump will meet you at the Levi's showroom at 9 a.m.
04:21That's at 39th Street and Broadway. Have a good day. Bye now.
04:2639th and Broadway.
04:48ΒΆΒΆ ΒΆΒΆ
04:58There's a nice tie between the packaging point of sale
05:00and the communications, so it looks good.
05:02All right.
05:03We may need to change that.
05:04Good, thanks.
05:05How are you? Welcome to the Levi's showroom.
05:07Nice to see you.
05:08You guys ready to come on down?
05:09We're all set.
05:10Okay, let's do it.
05:11ΒΆΒΆ ΒΆΒΆ
05:16Good morning.
05:17Good morning.
05:18Welcome to the 11th week of your 15-week job interview.
05:22Apex, do you have any idea who your team manager is going to be yet?
05:25It's going to be me.
05:26Devin, okay.
05:27Mosaic, who's your project manager?
05:29I am.
05:30All right, good.
05:31Wes, now the teams are getting a little bit uneven
05:34because Apex, unfortunately, has been getting their you-know-what kicked.
05:39So I'm going to ask Mosaic,
05:42you're going to have to choose somebody right now from your team
05:46to go over to Apex.
05:48Who is that going to be?
05:49ΒΆΒΆ ΒΆΒΆ
05:55That's bad news.
05:56ΒΆΒΆ ΒΆΒΆ
05:59Choose somebody.
06:00Let's go.
06:01ΒΆΒΆ ΒΆΒΆ
06:09It's like I'm standing in the right spot.
06:11Good man.
06:12I'm very happy.
06:13Okay, from their humble beginnings when they were created 150 years ago,
06:18Levi's has grown into a $4 billion company.
06:22I remember from the time I'm 2 years old, I've been wearing Levi's.
06:26I'm still wearing them on occasion.
06:29Because there's so many competitors today,
06:32the challenge for Levi's is to get the message out
06:36that they're more than just selling Levi's 501 jeans.
06:40Your task is to get that message out.
06:43You are going to be developing an in-store promotional catalog.
06:49You'll have access to world-renowned photographers
06:53and also experts at yellow-fin graphics.
06:57Tomorrow night, you'll present your catalogs to Robert Hanson.
07:01He's the president of Levi's,
07:03the team to deliver the most innovative and exciting catalog
07:08based on Robert's sole decision will be the winner.
07:12Losers, as usual, we'll see you in the boardroom.
07:16Somebody will be fired.
07:19And as you can see, Bill this week will be replacing George,
07:23who's away on a business trip.
07:25And Carolyn, as always, is with us, so they'll be my eyes and ears.
07:29Do well. I hope you do a good job for Levi's.
07:36Wes pushed me away for different reasons.
07:38I had an exemption, but he pushed me away
07:40because he was afraid to go to the boardroom with me,
07:43with or without an exemption,
07:45because I'm stronger than he is.
07:50Hi.
07:52Welcome to our team, Kelly.
07:54All right.
07:56I was confident that with Kelly on board, we have a good team.
08:00I actually felt good about being project manager,
08:03about having the control finally.
08:05I've mentioned that I want to be project manager
08:07several times to the rest of my team,
08:09and Ivana said, you know, I'd love it, Kevin, if you were project manager.
08:12Jan said, and I support that, and that's how I became project manager.
08:15When is it going to get a promotional magazine or catalog?
08:17It's a catalog.
08:18I think we all agree on fit, whether it's perfect fit.
08:21So definitely the fit.
08:22Right.
08:23We need to show the versatility in the brand
08:25in terms of the different cuts.
08:27We need to show somehow that there is a cut for everyone.
08:30I have an idea.
08:32It doesn't have to be like a traditional catalog.
08:34It could be a fit wheel, where you have all the stuff on the wheel on the front,
08:39and on the back, it's a wheel of the different sizes and stuff.
08:43You know what I mean?
08:44I was like, aha!
08:45I was like, you guys, you guys, you guys, I got it.
08:47You know, like, let's make a wheel that turns.
08:49It's like a jean selector.
08:52It has a little dial, and you select the jean that you want
08:55based on what style or fit you're looking for.
08:58I mean, just imagine these are circles.
08:59They're just discs that are rotating,
09:01and every time, depending on what you choose,
09:03it gives you a little pop-up of...
09:05Avaya, can you draw it out like exactly what you're seeing?
09:08Well, this is close.
09:10Because that's confusing me.
09:12Are you looking at it as somebody actually being able to use it
09:15to get to their perfect jean?
09:16Yes.
09:17Jen is slow to understand what's going on
09:19because she's not used to thinking five steps ahead.
09:21If you want a corporate lawyer, hire Jen.
09:23If you want an out-of-the-box thinker, do not hire Jen.
09:25So this would be like one page, and then we do something else?
09:28No.
09:29What would happen is if you spun this from women to men,
09:32it would change what was down here.
09:34I don't know why I don't get how this works.
09:40This is a very strong team.
09:41Just because we lost Kelly doesn't mean we can't win.
09:43No, no, this is a strong team.
09:45We chose project manager randomly.
09:46We pulled his name out of the hat the night before the task was assigned,
09:49and, you know, Wes's name got chosen.
09:52These tasks from now on are going to be won by the creativity,
09:55and with your expertise in this
09:57and your mind for fashion and so forth.
09:59I mean, I couldn't have picked it.
10:01I mean, this is exactly who I envisioned as soon as we walked in the door.
10:04I see this as having three very core elements to just making this happen.
10:10You know what, Andy?
10:11Let's read this.
10:12Let me zip through this before we get off track accidentally.
10:15I wasn't going to get us off track.
10:17I was just saying that I see three core things.
10:19What are the three things you see?
10:20I see there's the photo shoot, being the models, locations, clothing.
10:24I spend a lot of time in our business working with layout and magazines.
10:28I have the most expertise and the most practical business experience
10:33in the area of advertising layout and design.
10:35No one else in my group brings that particular skill set to the table.
10:38But just know that I'm going to push this group outside of,
10:41my goal is outside of your comfort zone.
10:43I'd like to see us step outside the box
10:45because we need to figure out exactly what it's going to take
10:48in order to be compelling and innovative in the mind of the president.
10:51Maria definitely wants to own this task.
10:53However, we have a strong team.
10:55Mosaic is a very bright, strong team.
10:57And even though she says she has the most experience,
10:59we are all here to help and we all have something to offer.
11:02It would be an awful, stupid, ridiculous idea to just leave Maria in charge of it.
11:12Random House has really been amazing for Trump.
11:15Our last book, How to Get Rich, was so successful.
11:19You should never lose your cool unless it's an act.
11:23If you're acting, that you're angry,
11:25because you want to scare your employees
11:27or you want to do something to get them to work harder.
11:34Never lose your cool unless you have a reason for doing so.
11:39And I promise you that will not be the picture we use.
11:43This is the first time I've seen this one.
11:50What we might be able to do is actually put some artistic photos inside the catalog
11:55just to show the jeans and different personalities.
11:57The task was to create a prototype of an in-store catalog
12:01that Levi was going to use to help bring in consumers.
12:04We arrived at the photo studio and we just had to get organized.
12:07We wanted to find out what clothes were going to look good on everybody
12:09and get everybody situated.
12:11Hello.
12:12Hey, what's going on?
12:13You want to be able to help the consumer feel good about the jeans,
12:16that those jeans are for them.
12:17You don't do that by putting models up there who weigh 110 pounds
12:21and don't look like 99% of the people that walk around this world.
12:25You do that by having real people up there that people can identify with.
12:28You ready?
12:29Yeah, let's do it.
12:31So we made a decision to put ourselves in the print ad.
12:34You can laugh now. Yeah, yeah, there we go.
12:37We're a diverse group of people.
12:39We've got different body types, different attitudes,
12:41and I thought it would show well in the campaign
12:43that really was about being diverse and outfitting everyone.
12:46Let's look here again.
12:49Those look good.
12:53What's the first thing you think about when you try on a pair of jeans?
12:56And we all said, oh, well, how does it make us look in the rear?
13:00Don't move.
13:01These jeans are all about making this look good,
13:05and we really wanted to focus on that.
13:07That looks good.
13:08Yeah.
13:14We can do it.
13:15I mean, let's just try a couple.
13:16Oh, we can do it.
13:19When Jen walked out with her hair and face all made up
13:22and these tight little jeans and T-shirt,
13:24I was like, damn.
13:26I think that looks good.
13:29I think with that tank top.
13:30And she's rolling around on the mat over there like she's done this 100 times.
13:33And then chin down a little bit.
13:36I feel like she knows what she's doing.
13:38Jen is the perfect kind of person I need to be a model.
13:46I think Jen would make a great model.
13:47She's really attractive, and she can manipulate her persona in any way,
13:51and that's what you want in a model.
13:53You want them to be able to act at the drop of a pin,
13:56and I think that's what she does.
13:58We got enough back shots?
13:59Spin around. Let's see.
14:01Yeah, that's a good shot.
14:03Money shot right there.
14:05Yeah, I guess some of them.
14:07I have very little experience dealing with models and photo shoots,
14:11so put some added pressure on me.
14:13Definitely.
14:14Lift your arms up so we see the jeans.
14:20You got some movement.
14:21Yeah, just keep it up, just like that.
14:23Right there, right there.
14:24That's pretty good.
14:25That's pretty good.
14:26That's pretty good.
14:27That's pretty good.
14:28That's pretty good.
14:29That's pretty good.
14:30That's pretty good.
14:31That's pretty good.
14:32Look at that. Right there, right there.
14:34That's pretty cool.
14:35Cool.
14:36Are those jeans too tight for him?
14:38Too loose?
14:39Wait a minute, girls.
14:40Does this make sense to do a big group shot if we have multiple jeans in the same shot?
14:43We need some of these shots.
14:45We're going to work them in as we can.
14:46Yes.
14:47So, okay, here's what I need for you to do, and then you two, can you get me?
14:51I need for her bra not to show.
14:53Can you make sure that happens?
14:54Really? I thought that was unexpected.
14:56No, I think it actually is distracting.
14:58No one is driving the ship.
14:59We've got to have someone direct this photo shoot.
15:02It's, you know, someone needs to take charge.
15:05I'm directing.
15:06You take the photo, and I'm here to make sure that we've got the right shot and get them off the stage.
15:09Okay, get up there.
15:10Direct them.
15:11Okay, you've seen how it's going.
15:12We're going to do probably five like this.
15:14We're going to do a couple of the butt.
15:15Great hip action.
15:16Kick the foot out or whatever.
15:18All right.
15:19There, that's it.
15:20Okay, do one more.
15:21When Maria flew in to the studio on her broomstick, the whole attitude of the room changed.
15:26She thought that no one else was confident enough to direct the photo shoot.
15:29They're going to do bitchy Calvin Klein, like could hurt somebody.
15:33Bitchy, bitchy, bitchy, though.
15:35There you go.
15:36You got the attitude.
15:37Give us as much butt attitude as you can.
15:41It's funny.
15:42That's a great shot.
15:44We realized the importance of having good butt shots.
15:47Feeling hip, feeling sexy are very much intuitively byproducts.
15:53Maria, we've got to have like five or seven shots per person if we're going to do all this.
15:55We still have like a few jeans to get through.
15:57Yeah, and we've got to edit them all.
15:58501-567, two shots of this.
16:01She's just got to stop taking 15 pictures of everybody.
16:03Yeah.
16:04We don't have time.
16:06This is out of control.
16:08Maria.
16:09Andy, please.
16:12I mean, you're just going to have to just do something here, dude.
16:14I mean, I don't know what to say.
16:15In this task, a major part of it is time management and getting your materials in to meet deadlines.
16:20We needed to take three to five pictures per person.
16:22And then sometimes we're taking 20 pictures, 30 pictures per person.
16:26We had deadlines to meet.
16:27So I was constantly telling Wes, you've got to put your foot down and tell her the way it is.
16:30Otherwise, she'll never respect you and she'll walk all over you.
16:33That's okay.
16:34Next.
16:35Okay.
16:36Next.
16:37Next.
16:38Okay.
16:39Are you sure?
16:40I understand.
16:41I understand.
16:42Do not get in my freaking face.
16:43I need you to get this done.
16:44I understand.
16:45Back off.
16:46Okay.
16:47Moving on.
16:48Wes backed off.
16:49I would have been like you outside.
16:51I would have put that fire out quickly and I would have let her know that, you know what?
16:55I'm still the project manager on this task.
16:57I'm telling you to hurry up.
16:58Hurry it up.
16:59Give me bitchy or give me death.
17:11That's what we're thinking that we want to use for the wallpaper for the most part, the background.
17:16The colors will be, need to be like a weathered black.
17:19We got to yell at our graphic designers.
17:21I spent a little bit of time talking with the designer about my vision.
17:25Someone really needs to take the reins of this and drive this particular task.
17:29Can we please have time by ourselves?
17:31I really want to ask him a lot of questions.
17:32I won't talk.
17:33I want to see what we're up against.
17:34Game over.
17:35We can revise this a little later.
17:38Listen, I don't think there's anything wrong with checking up and seeing how things are going.
17:43I want the rules.
17:44That's the way it's going to be.
17:45We had a deadline with the design team, and I wanted to see what the final product was.
17:48And Maria didn't want anybody to go in the room and take a look at it.
17:50And I thought that was completely unreasonable.
17:52Maria's a control freak.
17:53She doesn't want anybody to have anything to do with it.
17:55Wes, I was standing there looking at the computer screen.
17:59She was like, get out of here.
18:00You can't look at it.
18:01That's her attitude.
18:02That's her attitude, and that's unacceptable.
18:04I worked on that just as hard as she did.
18:06Here's the deal.
18:07We are a team.
18:08I am bringing it in to show it to you.
18:10You can't basically shut your screen and be like, it'll be a surprise.
18:13It is not a freaking surprise.
18:15Every single thing that you said you wanted is in there.
18:18So why was there to look at it?
18:20Well, there was nothing to see.
18:21So I hope you saw what you wanted to see.
18:23This fight, honestly, would never have occurred if Wes, from the beginning,
18:26had not been afraid to say no to Maria when she needed it.
18:28Also, you know, Wes is a little bit to blame for letting it get this out of hand.
18:32If they have a fight, it should last 30 seconds and be over.
18:34They were fighting for 20 minutes.
18:36Maria, you have a track record of being extremely controlling and owning everything
18:40and not delegating, not letting anybody else in.
18:42You want to be totally accountable for the win but not for the loss, it seems like.
18:46I think that Sandy is quite unprofessional at times.
18:49It angers me to be called a control freak because I'm just quite simply not.
18:53No one likes to feel useless and feel like they have to be dismissed from a room.
18:58I agree.
18:59You know what I mean?
19:00I don't like to be dismissed from a room.
19:01Sandy, then let me ask you for your apology.
19:02I would like to apologize to you.
19:03I sincerely apologize.
19:04Will you forgive me and not bring this up anymore?
19:07Yes.
19:08If you don't dismiss me from a room, we're good.
19:10I will never dismiss you again from another room.
19:19Just know that you have beaten me down when all I wanted was to give you something that you could rip apart.
19:24I'm not trying to beat you down.
19:26And I'm not a control freak.
19:29I am constantly reminded that no one is my friend.
19:33I'm not here to feel good.
19:35I'm here to win.
19:41Hey, Madhu.
19:42Hi.
19:47This is great.
19:48Can I take this with me?
19:49Yeah, sure.
19:50You can take both of these.
19:51Okay.
19:52I'll just fix this side.
19:53Awesome.
19:54You're the best.
19:55I was looking at the denim pocket and our slogan of the original Levi's, the perfect fit.
19:59Fit wheel, the perfect fit.
20:01And I'm like, hey, the fit guy could fit in your pocket.
20:05I'm like, duh.
20:07Put the fit wheel inside of the denim pocket, which is really our catalog.
20:10And that's when it all came together.
20:12So innovation tempered by an understanding of their past, where they've come from.
20:16Right.
20:17I was just thinking, as soon as I can go see the product, I think it'll be, like, inspirational.
20:25No, absolutely.
20:26They're finishing it up right now.
20:28I mean, you can just get the bullets down.
20:29You know the concept, so we can talk to that.
20:32Sounds good.
20:34Jen was useless a lot of the time, you know, asking us, what's going on?
20:37You know, what are you guys talking about?
20:39I don't understand what you're saying.
20:40You know, she couldn't get the concepts.
20:42We're brainstorming.
20:43We're bouncing off of each other.
20:44We've got to do it quickly.
20:45We have a limited amount of time.
20:46Jen couldn't get up to speed.
20:47They had to neutralize her and give her busy work so she wouldn't bother us while we're doing real work.
20:51Got some pretty good pictures.
20:55Jen's back working on the presentation at this point.
20:58Want me to call her?
20:59No.
21:00You've got 15 minutes.
21:01All right.
21:03With every task, she just gets more blonde and blonde.
21:08And she gets more prissy.
21:12I think Kevin gave me busy work.
21:14I think he really marginalized me on this task.
21:16Kevin and Ivana are both the weakest players on our team,
21:20and I think they have long held a grudge against me that I've escaped the boardroom.
21:25I also think Ivana looks at me as somebody who is her biggest competition,
21:29and I think it eats away at her.
21:30She wants to get me into that boardroom.
21:31She wants to get me fired, even though she has no reason for that.
21:41Rona, cancel all of my appointments.
21:43I'm going down to Levi's.
21:45Right. Everything canceled.
21:46Thanks. Bye.
21:48Now, if I go in there, all right, I'm going to have my laptop here,
21:52and I have all this right in front of me.
21:54We finally get everything done, and it's time for the presentation.
21:58I'm going to be honest.
21:59What?
22:00If you're not going to wear jeans, then you should just go all out suit
22:01to show that we're doing it out of respect, not that we forgot to wear jeans.
22:04I think it's cool like it is.
22:05I think it's cool like it is.
22:06Okay.
22:08Hello, Team Mosaic.
22:10Hello.
22:11Hello.
22:12This is Tracy King.
22:13She's the Vice President of Sales for Women,
22:15and Nick Coe is the Vice President of Merchandising on the men's side of the business.
22:19So, what do you got to show us?
22:21Well, what if the jeans could talk?
22:23What kind of story would the jeans tell?
22:26What kind of story would the jeans tell?
22:28What kind of story would the jeans tell?
22:30What kind of story would the jeans tell?
22:32What kind of story would the jeans tell?
22:35What kind of story would the jeans tell about the person who's wearing them?
22:40They're saying, I'm authentic.
22:42They're saying, what's not to love?
22:45And the catalog speaks for itself as well.
22:49Here's what we wanted to do.
22:50First of all, our goal was to get into the mind of the consumer,
22:52and, you know, that was actually simple because we are your consumer.
22:56So, we thought it was important to, first of all, tell the story.
22:58And this tells the story about the fact that you've been around for a long time,
23:02and, in fact, you've been the leaders in making jeans,
23:04and that people want to be you, and that's a really cool thing.
23:08And then we put this beautiful, she's now seven feet tall here,
23:12Jana, this is actually one of the bandanas in your store.
23:16Someone in one of your shops created this top, and we went ahead and put her in this,
23:19and then the gentleman helped us create this skirt out of a pair of 501 men's jeans.
23:24And why on a woman?
23:25And why not on a woman?
23:27If being sexy is wrong, then I don't want to be right.
23:31Maria dominated the entire presentation.
23:33She said a lot of things that I would not have said,
23:35a lot of things that I'm sure Wes did not want said,
23:38and it was just not good for the team.
23:40Most of the product that you've got in the catalog are actually front shots with the exception of one.
23:44What was your thinking there?
23:46We got a lot of butt shots.
23:49A lot of butt shots.
23:51The jeans were, they were fitting more loosely than we would have liked for a really solid butt shot.
23:56Maria cut out all the butt shots because she didn't think that they were perfect.
24:00Maria lobbied that she knew what she was doing as far as the pictures were concerned,
24:05and she let me down in this respect.
24:07Thank you. I think you guys did a good job.
24:09My initial reaction, I think you tried to accomplish a lot, and I just need you to think about that.
24:13The only other thing I would say is you dressed casually, but not everyone's dressed in Levi's jeans.
24:18And there is a reason for that.
24:20Not even 30 minutes before we got ready to come on, there was not a way for us to purchase them.
24:25The only thing I'd say to you is planning ahead next time, you guys.
24:28At least you tried. We appreciate that.
24:30Okay, great. Thank you.
24:32Take care.
24:33Let's see what the other team has to say.
24:37Hello.
24:38Hello, Team Apex.
24:39How are you?
24:40I'm well, and you?
24:41I feel good.
24:42I've seen a change of clothing.
24:44Absolutely, had to do it.
24:45Okay, go ahead.
24:46This company is about jeans.
24:48This company started the category.
24:50Perfection is the best way to describe this pair of jeans.
24:53Perfect fit, perfect for any time.
24:55I thought Kevin came off as pretty aggressive in the presentation.
24:58I mean, he was sweating, and he was extremely fired up, though.
25:01Our team, we sat back, we talked about it, and we wanted to bring you a catalog.
25:05So I was really worried about that.
25:07It was just really disgusting, and hopefully they didn't take that in the wrong way, or hopefully they didn't feel intimidated.
25:12And we want something that was going to be able to continue to build the brand loyalty
25:17and continue to grow in customers, as you've been doing for 150 years.
25:21And you know what?
25:22I'm just going to let Ivana take this away and just get right into it.
25:25What's the first thing you look at when you try on a pair of jeans?
25:29The butt.
25:31So we took that to heart, and we thought, hey, let's make a promotional catalog that's based on the seat of the pants.
25:37Basically, we're saying the original Levi's, always the perfect fit.
25:40I know some of those people.
25:43Yeah, real jeans for real people.
25:45We wanted to put a different spin on the fit guide.
25:49So we're saying to help you achieve that perfect fit, it basically lists all the different fits for women and men,
25:54and you just sort of rotate it around to see all the available choices you have.
25:59How'd you come up with your idea that got you to the point where, like, this is what you wanted to do?
26:03We know that the jeans are something that men and women have problems and difficulty in trying to find the perfect fit.
26:09So we're going to solve that problem by grabbing the customer at the door.
26:13We're going to be the first stop.
26:14Ivana, having been the creative force behind it, was really the only one who could answer the question.
26:18But Jen shot in there and decided that she was going to basically try to take credit for Ivana's idea.
26:23It's going to help them interface and interact with the store clerk.
26:27They can go in there and actually say, this is what I'm looking for.
26:30I had to wait for Jen to stop talking in order to get my point across.
26:34I didn't want to cut her off, but a couple of times I had to because she was delivering the wrong answers.
26:38What's most important to me about my jeans? What's going to make me keep coming back?
26:42I think you've helped us launch a really creative brainstorm, and then we collaboratively just started feeding off of that.
26:48I think you guys did a really good job. Thanks. I appreciate it.
26:51Thank you all.
26:52All right. Nice to see you.
27:00Hello.
27:01Donald.
27:02Hello, Robert.
27:03Hi, how are you? Nice to see you.
27:04And I have my girlfriend. She's wearing your jeans.
27:07Those look fantastic on you.
27:09How are things going?
27:10Great. We got some good work. I think the teams worked really hard, and we were just about to bring them in.
27:15Very good.
27:20First to arrive, Team Apex.
27:24Team Mosaic.
27:28So, Apex did a really, really good job on this piece.
27:31You started immediately reinforcing what the brand positioning is.
27:35It's all about the butt, and you delivered that in the piece that you put together really cleverly.
27:41This piece accomplishes the second goal that we had, which was to communicate the category-leading range of jeans that we have for men and women, and you nailed that perfectly.
27:49We think the piece, it doesn't have as much of the wow factor. It's not as sexy as we would like it to be.
27:54But overall, we think you did a really good job, so well done.
27:57Mosaic, we think you did a great job in communicating the sexiness of the brand.
28:02There are some things about this that we don't think you did well.
28:05We don't think that you delivered a clear communication of the fit range.
28:09We don't think that you balanced the truth about the Levi's brand, that it is for young and old, male and female.
28:16And for that reason, Apex, you win.
28:21Oh my god, finally.
28:24Good job, Apex. That's very good.
28:28Oh my god.
28:29Robert, on Apex, who did you think did the best job?
28:32I would have to say I think that Jen did the best job all around, because she was the most confident.
28:37She played a more balanced role. I think I'd give it to Jen.
28:40I was so angry when Robert had said, out of these four, I think Jen did the best.
28:45Jen doesn't have one creative brain cell to even think of something like this.
28:50In fact, she didn't even understand the fit wheel until it was produced, until she could see it in front of her.
28:55And all of a sudden, now she's getting all this credit in front of Donald Trump.
28:58Good, Jen. So finally, the education is paying off, maybe, Jen. That's very good.
29:04Well, Apex, congratulations. You're going to like this one.
29:07A very good friend of mine is Billy Joel.
29:09And Billy Joel, as you know, has a Tony Award winning show on Broadway right now.
29:15It's called Moving Out. And it's terrific. I've seen it twice.
29:18What you're going to do is go to the theater, spend a lot of time with Billy Joel.
29:24He's going to play songs for you, talk to you.
29:26And you're going to essentially spend a lot of time listening to the great music of Billy Joel.
29:31So that's really terrific.
29:33Mosaic, sorry to tell you folks, but I'll see you back in the boardroom.
29:37Somebody will be fired.
29:55Hi, guys. Hi.
29:57Hi. I'm Ivana.
29:59Ivana. Jennifer.
30:01Jennifer.
30:02In our pitch for Levi's, we looked at them as an icon.
30:05They were the original jeans.
30:07And it's an easy jump to say, you know, Billy Joel, definitely an American icon.
30:12His music, you know, speaks to the masses, speaks to everyone.
30:16Really heartfelt. And that's the same way we felt about the jeans.
30:19So this is the theater, the interior.
30:22As you can see, the band is actually up on a thing called a travelator.
30:27And the travelator goes up and down.
30:30In this show, it's extremely important that people see the band.
30:34I never thought about my songs being done this way on Broadway.
30:39This is an enterprise. It's a business.
30:42It is a huge risk.
30:44If you've got a stinker, you've got a stinker.
30:47If you've got a stinker, you've got a stinker.
30:49Just like in any other business.
30:51Fortunately, we ended up having a winner.
30:53Billy Joel basically told us the Broadway business is hard.
30:56You know, producing a show like this is hard.
30:58But sometimes when you take a big risk, there can be a big reward.
31:02β™ͺ
31:07She's got a way about her.
31:11I think the highlight, though, the whole reward,
31:13was when he gets down to the piano, he starts playing some stuff for us.
31:16Starts playing some of the music from Moving Out.
31:18Starts playing some of his old stuff, some of his favorite songs.
31:21It's beautiful.
31:22I wish you all luck in what you're doing.
31:25But take risks. Take chances.
31:28Don't be afraid. You've got to go into life brave.
31:32β™ͺ
31:38Billy Joel spoke to us about taking risks.
31:41And that's exactly what we did with this task
31:43because I felt like there was going to be a big reward on the end.
31:45And there was a huge reward in the end, meeting Billy Joel.
31:48β™ͺ
31:59For anybody to walk in there and try to pin the entire in-house promotional thing on me
32:03means that the rest of you are sitting on your asses.
32:06And that's dangerous for you all.
32:08Okay, here's the deal.
32:09I'm going after Wes.
32:11Operational misfit.
32:13Lack of leadership.
32:15No direction.
32:16And by the way, he's the only person in this group right here
32:20that's lost twice.
32:22I will tonight speak openly, honestly,
32:24about the fact that we did not have a complete plan.
32:27We came close to not meeting a lot of our deadlines.
32:30That is not a Maria problem.
32:32That is a leadership problem.
32:34And Wes does not seem to have solid leadership abilities.
32:38I'm no dummy.
32:39No, I know. You're not funny.
32:42No people plotting against me.
32:45We're all vulnerable here.
32:47I mean, I'm particularly vulnerable because I'm the P.N.
32:50I got a lot to defend.
32:52No question about it, man.
32:54Dude, I'm not selling you short here, man.
32:57But I think Maria has a lot to defend.
32:59Maria should be fired tonight.
33:01She demonstrated that she has no ability to work within a team at all.
33:06A leader and a CEO of a company needs to be able to work in a team environment.
33:36Maria, tell me something.
33:52Jeans are supposed to show off a body.
33:54Right.
33:55In particular, they're supposed to show off the ass.
33:58How come you didn't show off that part of the body?
34:01We did. We actually had a number of photos in our piece
34:03that had the ass illustrated.
34:05In fact, the only one I saw wearing jeans showing off was when we spun Melania around.
34:11Maria didn't like those shots.
34:13No, no, no.
34:14She felt that they didn't quite work.
34:16No, no, no.
34:17But you're the boss, ultimately, so who cares what she thought?
34:19Ultimately, it is my decision. That's correct.
34:21Why the fighting? There was a lot of fighting that I witnessed.
34:24To be honest with you, Bill, it was close to our deadline, and I thought to myself,
34:27I want to know what's going on in there.
34:29And I walked in the room, and Maria immediately said,
34:31Get out. I don't want anybody in here.
34:33It really upset me.
34:34Sandy, do you think you should call him Bill or Mr. Rancic?
34:38Whatever.
34:39You know what? We have created a monster here.
34:41He may want to be called Mr. Rancic.
34:43Wes, do you think Maria's talented?
34:46Maria is talented, but in this case, she overpromised to me and underdelivered.
34:51Mr. Trump, I used Maria in the exact same situation when I was project manager,
34:54and yes, she is very passionate, but she needs finite guidelines,
34:57and she was never given those guidelines.
34:59It's killing me that everyone's talking about me except for me.
35:02This task was tough, yeah, but nobody cares what you have to say.
35:04Evidently, no one cares what I have to say.
35:06I tried to give Maria as much direction as I could and much input as I could, as did the others.
35:11And she was asleep at the wheel.
35:13The bottom line is that we lost this task on planning up front.
35:16You can be as creative as you want to be.
35:18If you can't plan and execute, you're not going to get the job done.
35:23Half of you didn't wear Levi's posing on the presentation.
35:25You're exactly right, which was horrific.
35:27You know, even Melania, she wore Levi's jeans. You didn't?
35:30Yes, I know.
35:31How could you not wear Levi's jeans?
35:33That's a great question. Planning and execution.
35:36We had no plan.
35:38Andy, you're a nationally ranked debate champion.
35:41You didn't say one thing in the presentation.
35:43Andy, why are you so quiet? I see you week after week, and you never say anything.
35:47And you escape because somebody else is more incompetent.
35:51As far as why I'm quiet, the thing that I learned when I won the debating championship
35:55is not when to talk, but when to listen.
35:57And I think the problem on this team is that there was too much talking going on
36:00and not enough listening, and I think that's what led to our defeat once again.
36:03Very nice answer.
36:05Wes, you can bring two people or three people back into the boardroom.
36:10I wanted to bring all three of our team members back in because I...
36:13Okay, well, all three are coming back.
36:28So, Carolyn, what about Wes as a leader?
36:31I think he's a very sharp guy. He just can't delegate. He's a bad leader.
36:36What do you think, Bill?
36:38I think Wes, he cannot control the troops.
36:40They had a major fight go on for 30 minutes in their war room,
36:43and Wes sat back and watched the entire thing.
36:46Maria doesn't seem to have a problem with that.
36:49I think she's a good leader.
36:51I think she's a good leader.
36:53I think she's a good leader.
36:55What do you think?
36:56Maria doesn't seem to really work with anyone too well,
36:59and I wish Sandy would perhaps get her ideas across a little bit more.
37:02She's being underutilized, but that's partly her fault. It's partly Wes's fault.
37:05Well, you're being underutilized, too, because I'd love you to go back to Chicago
37:09and start working on that building instead of being here with me. Okay?
37:12I want to go back.
37:14All right.
37:15Robin, let them come in.
37:17They're ready for you to go back in now.
37:26Maria, let me ask you this.
37:28Wes, lousy leader?
37:31Definitely.
37:33Wes, lousy leader?
37:35Yes.
37:36Andy?
37:37Yes.
37:38Can I defend myself here?
37:39Yes.
37:40You better start moving quickly, because...
37:42I tried several times to speed Maria up during the process in the photo shoot.
37:46Which I listened to you.
37:47Several times I was nice about it, and after the second time,
37:50I was like, I'm going to kill you.
37:52Which I listened to you.
37:53Several times I was nice about it, and after the sixth time, I said,
37:55Maria, we need to speed this up.
37:57She yelled at me and told me to back off, is what she said.
38:01If one of my employees told me to back off, that employee would not be working for me right now.
38:05Several times I thought to myself, if I could fire Maria...
38:08Why didn't you put her on the bench?
38:10I wanted to do that, but...
38:11But why didn't you?
38:12Because it would have been a reckless decision for a leader to lose 25% of his workforce
38:17when we had a deadline in 30 minutes.
38:19My major mistake here was giving Maria too much leeway.
38:23There's an awful lot that I did there that proves that I can manage an entire task with multiple people.
38:29Not just...
38:30Not this time.
38:31Wes, let me ask you this.
38:33If you were me, would you fire Maria?
38:36I would fire Maria because she has the inability to work as a productive team member.
38:41In life, we all work within teams, even though we are leaders.
38:45Maria, you were difficult to work with.
38:47You lashed out at your project manager, which was completely out of line.
38:51Wes, you lost control of Maria, and you failed as a leader.
38:55You both did a horrible job.
38:58Maria, you're fired.
39:01And I just have to do this.
39:03I have no choice.
39:04Wes, you're fired also.
39:14Go ahead. Out.
39:16Out.
39:47Had to be done.
39:48No-brainer. No-brainer.
39:51Good decision.
39:52Never pleasant doing that, though, I must say.
39:55But sometimes it's easy.
39:56It's never pleasant.
39:57But it's easy.
39:58That wasn't easy. Andy better step up to the plate.
40:00Yeah.
40:01I agree with that.
40:16I agree with that.
40:17Stay tuned for scenes from our next episode.
40:48For more Apprentice, log on to NBC.com.
40:51Ultimately, in this task, you know, I made a mistake, and, you know, Maria made some mistakes.
40:56So, quite frankly, we were both responsible for this.
40:59Obviously, there are many regrets about how we operated this task.
41:02There's always something that you could do better.
41:04Anytime you lose, you have regrets, because you go back, you play Monday morning quarterback,
41:08and you think, well, if I would have done this, maybe we wouldn't have lost.
41:11We made it a long way, and we also learned an awful lot.
41:14So, I don't have any regrets for this at all.
41:16I absolutely have absolutely no regrets as well.
41:18This has been a great experience.
41:20I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
41:22If I had the opportunity to do it again, I would certainly do so.
41:24And it's the first time I ever heard those words.
41:26Me too.
41:27I've never been fired as well.
41:29I would at least like my own cab.
