00:00It was a special day at Godolphin's Jonabell Farm when they had the opportunity to show
00:08off their home-bred essential quality for the first time to breeders.
00:12We stopped in and visited the four-time grade one winner and Breeders' Cup champion.
00:17I think what has been evident about essential quality from the get-go has just been his
00:23class and there's an immense sense of pride with breeding a horse of this caliber.
00:29It's truly gratifying and in one horse epitomizes what we are trying to do.
00:34We just couldn't be happier to have him here at the farm.
00:36So essential quality is the first horse in history to accomplish the Breeders' Cup
00:43juvenile Belmont Stakes double.
00:47Obviously it's a rare achievement, it's a very difficult achievement and it just epitomizes
00:51essential quality.
00:52He had the speed and precocity to win over six on debut, to win two grade ones at a mile
00:58and a sixteenth at Keeneland as a two-year-old, but yet had the stamina to win the Belmonts
01:03over an enduring mile and a half.
01:06So just his versatility and it just didn't really matter what trip he was at, he just
01:12would find a way to win and did so, so many times.
01:15He's a super intelligent horse, his pose, his composure, his intelligence, his class,
01:22I think these are all great qualities that he has shown and I think he showed those in
01:25his races.
01:26Watching the Jim Dandy, it was a very exciting race, it looked like Louis was starting his
01:33move from the midpoint of the race, but I never had a moment's worry because you know
01:38what essential quality he's going to be gaining with every yard to the wire and he's always
01:42doing his best work late.
01:43Keep me in mind, an essential quality, they battle it out in the Jim Dandy Stakes, essential
01:49quality.
01:50And obviously, sure enough, it was a little closer at the finish than we would have liked
01:54but that's just him, that's what champions do.
01:57You know, same obviously in the Belmonts, he just started working from midpoints through
02:02the race and again, had a lot of confidence in him that he's just going to be doing his
02:07best work late and that he's going to be gaining with every yard to the line.
02:10Essential quality and he's showing his quality today, the champion two-year-old has won the
02:16test of the champion.
02:18His will to win and his, you know, his almost sixth sense perception of where that finish
02:24line is, are just some of the traits that kind of set him apart.
02:27Physically, he's a gorgeous horse and just a very intelligent, attractive head to him.
02:32He just has that profile and that presence.
02:35He's by Tappet, who we've had a lot of success with, he's out of an elusive quality mare.
02:41She is a grade three placed mare at delightful quality.
02:45She is of course, a half sister to Folklore, who was champion two-year-old filly here in
02:48North America and of course, Folklore is the third dam of Contrail, who won the Japanese
02:53triple crown.
02:54I mean, he represents some of the best sires that we've had here in North America.
02:57So he really is an amalgamation of all those great sire lines.
03:02Essential quality is coming in at a stud fee of 75,000, I think he's all the ingredients
03:07to make a successful stallion.
03:09You know, it's not easy to get a horse to amass his race record, to present the physical
03:17that he presents and to bring the female family.
03:20He's going to be probably one of the most sought after freshmen sires, if not the most
03:24sought after freshmen sire this year, and his book will certainly reflect that status.
