00:00Forte is the first juvenile champion to retire to Spendthrift Farm in more than four decades,
00:08and breeders have responded with enthusiasm.
00:10Here Mark Toothaker tells us more about the multiple grade one winning son of violence.
00:16Forte got in here, you know, right around the 20th of October.
00:20We were excited to get him in.
00:22Breeders have loved it when you bring him out on the end of the shank, you know, he's
00:25just got a classy look to him.
00:27You know, he stands over some ground.
00:29He's, you know, he's 16, one and a half, but, you know, he's three, so I think, you
00:34know, by the time he gets done, he'll be 16, two for sure, but he's got that Medallia
00:39d'Oro length to him, and he's just such a good mover.
00:43He's been hugely popular here, you know, completely sold out.
00:49Most every Mary Scott's a black-type mare, so he's going to get a huge chance.
00:54Forte was very special from the very beginning.
00:56You know, he's just an exceptional colt, enormous talent, tactical speed, ability to
01:03stretch out, pretty much everything you're looking for in a racehorse.
01:09He just knew where the wire was, you know, and, you know, that was our biggest comment
01:13about him is that if you ever got in a dogfight with him, you know, he knew how to win.
01:18He starts out breaking his maiden in May, so, you know, he gets to the races early and
01:24then comes back, runs a big race, and hopeful, comes back, wins the Breeders' Fratuity here
01:29at Keeneland, and then tops it off by winning the, you know, winning the Breeders' Cup.
01:35He set the really good trip, you know, in there that day, and Horsett just, he had so
01:41much class.
01:42He's just so push-button, you know, and when he made that run around the turn, you know,
01:47it was impressive seeing him come through the stretch.
01:49The two of them coming down to the wire, Forte on the outside, Cave Rock along the rail,
01:55and Forte has upset Cave Rock to win the Breeders' Cup Jubilee.
02:01But, yeah, he had some hiccups along the way, but, you know, still, the talent came through.
02:06He, you know, he wins the Fountain of Youth, he comes right back, he wins the Florida Derby.
02:11You know, he's heading into the Kentucky Derby as one of the favorites, and he has a foot
02:15issue, and, you know, we all know the story, you know, literally, you know, the morning
02:20of the Derby, he's a last-minute scratch, and, you know, so off of a, quite a layoff
02:27from the Florida Derby being in March, I believe, and then the Belmont being in June, you know,
02:34to go a mile and a half without a race in between, I thought it was a great effort to
02:39be second that day.
02:41He comes back in what turned out to be kind of a rough run Jim Dandy.
02:45He just kind of made his way, you know, through there and got up to beat Soddy Crown right
02:52on the money.
02:53Just, you know, a lot of fight, a lot of a horse that just absolutely knows where the
02:58wire is and how to get his head down on the wire, and we love seeing that.
03:01We love seeing a horse that's got some fight in him.
03:04One of the biggest things about it, he's out of a blame mare, and, you know, you can't
03:08hardly ever go wrong with those.
03:10You go back, you've got folklore, you know, that's back in his pedigree, essential quality
03:15back in his pedigree.
03:16I mean, there's some really nice grade one horses as you look back through his pedigree.
03:22It's a deep female family.
03:23So we're, you know, we're thrilled to have him and so happy we can show him off to all
03:28of our breeders.
