00:00It's always exciting for a stud farm to welcome a Breeders' Cup champion, and this
00:06year Ashford Stud added not one, but two of those elite racehorses to their stallion roster.
00:11We talked to Adrian Wallace about two-time Breeders' Cup champion Golden Pal and speedy
00:15juvenile winner Corniche.
00:19Golden Pal, what a horse.
00:21I mean, you talk to Wesley Ward, he leaves you under no impression that he was the best
00:25horse he ever trained, the fastest horse he's ever trained.
00:27I think Golden Pal holds a very special place, not only in Randy Lowe's, his Breeders'
00:33heart, in Wesley Ward's heart, but also in Coolmore's heart.
00:37Any time a horse can not only take you to the three Breeders' Cups, but win you two
00:41of them.
00:42He won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint at two, and then went on to win the Turf Sprint
00:46at three.
00:47He holds a very special place in your heart, but then not only that, but he won three great
00:51twos here at Keeneland, and that's one of the major selling points of him, is he was
00:55able to win and nearly remain undefeated at Keeneland at his home track in front of
01:01all the breeders, in front of all the people who are going to be using him.
01:03So those breeders were able to see firsthand how quick he was out of the gates, how electrifying
01:08his speed was on the turf track at Keeneland and around the world.
01:14Really a horse that's been emblematic not only for Ashford, for Wesley Ward, and for
01:20Golden Pal's sire, Uncle Mo.
01:22He comes from a very fast midshipman mare named Labied Shipman, who was a very good
01:25runner in her own right.
01:26She had a lot of speed, and I think the great thing about Uncle Mo is that you've got not
01:30only the option of dirt, but you've also got the option, very much, of this horse of turf.
01:36But to me, he doesn't even look really like a sprinter.
01:38I think he's fast because he was brilliant.
01:40That's the great thing about Uncle Mo, is that they're versatile.
01:43They're good at two, they get going early, and they get better as they get older.
01:47He's getting a lot of mares.
01:49He's getting inquiries from every type of breeder around.
01:52He's getting a really, really good book of mares behind him.
01:55Great at stakes winners, great at stakes producers.
01:57He's going to be one of the most popular horses we've ever stood.
02:02When you look at Cornish, the first thing that comes to mind, certainly in my mind,
02:06is speed.
02:07He's very like his sire, quality road.
02:09He's got that same physique, that same structure to him.
02:13Balanced horse, good hip and shoulder on him, good mover, very correct.
02:16He was a very high-priced juvenile at OBS, costing Speedway Stables 1.5 million.
02:23Out of a very good race, Mare wasted tears.
02:25She was a multiple grade two winner on the track.
02:28He's very well-bred from a good racehorse family.
02:31He tore up the track down in Ocala, and then went on to break his maiden by widening five
02:37and a half lengths, and then went on to become, obviously, an Eclipse Award-winning two-year-old.
02:42The first thing you think about, he's all speed.
02:44I don't think we'll ever forget the display Cornish put on in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile
02:49that year.
02:50He overcame a very wide draw, and that left us under no illusion who the best horse was
02:55on that day as he romped to a juvenile championship.
02:58Off the rail, pop a cap.
03:00Tritus did those two, but it's Cornish.
03:03He's just too good.
03:05Cornish wins the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.
03:08He's been very popular.
03:09I mean, I think everyone wants two-year-old Speed.
03:11People want to get to the races early, and that's the greatest selling point of any stallion.
03:16I think horses like Cornish, like Golden Pal, offer that.
03:20They're the ones that will get you to the races early, and hopefully get you on the
03:23race track and on the big stage.
