00:00Early in his stud career, Munnings stood for a fee of just $10,000, but he steadily produced
00:10one elite runner after another, and he's now a leading sire in North America.
00:14Coolmore's Robin Murray spoke with us about the Ashford sire, and trainer Brittany Russell
00:18introduced us to two of his latest stakes winners.
00:23Munnings is 17 years old now.
00:25He's about to enter his 13th breeding season with us here at Ashford.
00:29Year on year, he's constantly produced top-level elite runners.
00:34Last year he had 15 stakes winners, the year before he had 19, and he's really ascending
00:39that path to greatness.
00:42Munnings has gotten off to a fantastic start in 2023.
00:45He's already had three stakes winners, of course, two of them trained by Brittany Russell.
00:50He's got really exciting three-year-old filly, Munnies Gold.
00:54She debuted last year in Monmouth, and then coming off a seven-month layoff, she absolutely
01:00blew away the competition in allowance last week at Goldstream Park for Todd Pletcher
01:06and Robert and Luana Lowe.
01:07It was really exciting to have those two stakes winners on that day, both three-year-olds
01:13coming along and making the progress that you like to see.
01:16Prince of Jericho, he came up from Florida in the spring.
01:20We took our time with him.
01:21He made a nice move around the turn, and he really accelerated.
01:24He ran down a horse that beat him last time, and he looked good doing it.
01:29Elstree, we've taken our time with a bit since she arrived.
01:33Big-bodied filly, there's a lot to her, and left there running.
01:37She's had a beautiful trip, and same sort of thing as the other horse, she responded
01:42at the end.
01:43She ran big.
01:44They're both nice munnings.
01:46They're strong, sturdy types, big-bodied horses.
01:50They handle training well.
01:52They show up to work every day, and they also show up in the afternoon.
01:56They're very reliable horses to have around.
01:59They're very versatile.
02:00They'll run on any surface, and they show a tremendous amount of natural speed.
02:05They're very good minds, and they're so tough and hardy.
02:10He's got the likes of Beverly Park, who won 14 times last year and has earned over half
02:15a million dollars.
02:16Their tenacity and their will to win is something very similar to what he had.
02:20A horse that I have in the barn, Wonder Where Craig is, who's by munnings, he was one that
02:24probably put my name out there a bit, so he's been very special to us.
02:28The munnings that I have, they're fast-looking horses.
02:32Everyone that I have, big engines, they have a strong shoulder to match.
02:36They have a fast look.
02:38It's a very exciting time for him with his first son that stood in Kentucky in Jack Christopher's
02:44standing.
02:45He's been incredibly well-received by breeders.
02:47He's been fully booked for a little while now, and we're really looking forward to getting
02:51him started.
02:52Munnings started his career off at $12,500, and for his first five years, he stood for
02:57less than $15,000.
02:59He was number four leading freshman sire with his first crop, and he was actually leading
03:05second crop sire the following year.
03:08Ever since then, he has gotten more mares, better mares.
03:13His fees started ascending.
03:15He's been in the top 10 general size for the last three years now, and we're still yet
03:19to see his crops off the $40,000, the $85,000, and then, of course, he's up to $100,000 this
03:24year.
03:25Theoretically, the best is still yet to come, and we're so excited for him.
03:30He's been supported by some fantastic breeders in the past.
03:33He's doing very well as a broodmare sire as well, and we would expect all of this to elevate
03:38him over the next couple of years.
