00:00In the space of six days, Glen Eagles sired a German derby winner and a July Cup winner,
00:08showing just how versatile he is as a stallion, as well as how much class he puts into his
00:12progeny. Prior to Millstream's win in the Group 1 July Cup, Mark Byrne of Coolmore spoke
00:18to us about Glen Eagles.
00:21Glen Eagles was a superstar racehorse himself and he went to stud den in Coolmore and since
00:27he started having runners, you can see that his crops are just getting better and better.
00:31I think this year alone has been a showcase year where he's getting horses that can compete
00:35in Group 1 sprints and he nearly won two derbies.
00:38He's a massive international stallion. We saw he had the German derby winner this year.
00:44The first time I think the French had a winner at Royal Ascot for six years was the Glen
00:48Eagle horse of the Agatkins this year at Royal Ascot. He's obviously a top class horse in
00:52France and then you've got the American horses as well, the feature hay horned ones. I think
00:59when you're a good stallion and you can have a bit of speed and a lot of class, you can
01:03be versatile and appeal to the world over.
01:06He seems to work well with Danehill line blood, but I think he works with most things as well.
01:11He probably is a fast mile or ten furlong type horse, so if you give him a sprinting
01:16type mare, he'll give you a faster type back. If you give him a slaying type mare, he'll
01:20get you that mile, mile and a half horse.
01:22You can see the breeders that are using him as well. They're top class breeders. You've
01:26got, as I mentioned, Red Penderstood, Diaga Kahn. Al Sharaa bred the derby horse as well.
01:32And of course, Gesto Ferhoff, who bred the German derby winner. So you can see they're
01:36a very different type of array of breeders from commercial to owner breeder to more the
01:41middle distance market.
01:42I was wearing two caps the day of the derby. When I saw him being friendly traveling down
01:47the rail, I said, God, we're in a bit of trouble here. But I think he's going to be a real
01:51horse to follow for the end of the year. I think they're going to get his trip worked
01:55out and I think that the best days are ahead of him. Obviously, the Diaga horse, the world
02:02is the limit for him.
