00:00Fans of jumps racing will hardly believe it, but it's 17 years ago since John Murphy won
00:05the champion chase with New Mill. Fast forward to Saturday, he's got a live derby contender
00:10in White Birch. We dropped down to Murphy to find out everything from how he sourced
00:14the horse and what it would mean to win the big race on Saturday.
00:18It was George's own horse. He had been recommended by Roger O'Callaghan and you have to listen
00:32to what Roger says and George went and saw him, really liked him, loved him. He's a beautiful
00:41looking horse. He had been going really good, training well. Again, no veterinary issues.
00:52Do you wait for better ground or do you run? So we decided to run and George thought he
00:58would handle the ground. It's not ideal, but he did well. It appeared that he was staying
01:07on in the finish. It's something that nobody can answer really until you go there, but
01:13he did appear to be staying on and he handles quickish ground. I don't think any horse likes
01:19the farm, but it's all to play for. He's probably got as much entitlement to go there as anybody.
01:30George didn't want to run him again on heavy, soft to heavy. It was just, at that time of
01:39the year, you can just overdo it on the soft to heavy. So we decided to go for what is
01:48nearly always better ground, which it was in York.
01:52We're very lucky. We're very lucky and thank you to all the people involved, including
02:02our own staff for the formation of it. It's hugely exciting, Brian. It gives him a pep
02:10in the step. It's really looking forward to it. It's exciting, especially for some part
02:21of West Cork, like our size. It's nice.
