00:00David and Gordo saw something in More Than Looks even before the Colts made it to the
00:06Keeneland September sales grounds.
00:08Now the son of More Than Ready is a Breeders' Cup champion, and he's set to begin his
00:12stud career at Lane's End Farm.
00:19More Than Looks, you know, it's interesting in life.
00:21You never know, especially in the horse business, where you're going to be at a certain time.
00:26So we were buying mares for a Lane's End partnership, and I went in and was underbidder
00:32on his mother to the Henkels.
00:35So then we were going out doing our farm inspections, and the Henkels are always the last farm I
00:41visit before the September sale.
00:45And the last yearling to come out was a More Than Ready colt.
00:50And Mr. Henkels was like, well, you've got to buy this one, because you made us pay so
00:55much for the mare.
00:56I said, oh yeah.
00:57He had it, even as a yearling.
01:00Really good angles, loved his hind and hind leg.
01:06By the time we got him to Keeneland, you could see this frame that this horse had.
01:13He's from the Halo line.
01:14He reminded me a lot of that Sunday Silence look.
01:17The head, the body, we bought them for a really fair price, and the rest is history.
01:24He was good on himself, really a sound horse to train, and he was there for you when she'd
01:30ask him, the jock would ask him to kick, he'd kick.
01:33And he was consistent.
01:35And those are things that you want in a good horse.
01:39Here at Keeneland in the Coolmore Mile, I think he was very unlucky to lose.
01:43You know, Jose did a great job, put him in a race, and then he got kind of banged in
01:48that first turn.
01:49But he came flying in a paceless race, and it really set him up for the Breeders' Cup.
01:56I was very confident once I saw him coming down the backside, and he defeated a very
02:01good bunch of horses, international horses, and he just, bam, did it.
02:06I think he's one of the more impressive turf racers I've watched in a very, very long time.
02:10That was really something special.
02:12And the horses he beat that day were good horses.
02:16Going into the final turn, he split horses, and then straightened out, and the acceleration
02:24was just unbelievable.
02:37I think that turn of foot that he showed in that race is something a stallion has to have.
02:44You know, you have to have speed.
02:46And for him to have that, and I think he imparts it on his offspring.
02:51He can emulate a sire more than ready as being a top horse, and he ran on the turf, but I
02:57don't think he's limited to it at all.
03:00I think he'll be a dual threat just like a sire was.
03:05He's out of a Harlins Holiday mare that's out of an Empire Maker mare.
03:08Those are dirt sire influence.
03:11People come to see more of the looks, and he comes out of the stall.
03:14He grabs people's eye.
03:16He's been very popular.
03:18He's fully syndicated, and we're getting a good book of mares.
03:22People are supporting him, and we're getting the kind of response we'd like to have.
03:26He's a horse, if you come see him, you don't like him, we'll buy you a dinner at Frankendino's.
