00:00Following the sad loss of English Channel and Kitten's Joy, there's room at the top
00:07among turf stallions in Kentucky.
00:09But Up to the Mark, representing the famously versatile Giants Causeway Line, is a horse
00:15that offers something to everybody.
00:18He starts at Lane's End Farm and we visit Bill Farish to hear all about their exciting
00:23new recruit.
00:25Up to the Mark is coming to Lane's End this year for his first season and we're very excited
00:29to have him.
00:30I think the thing that attracted us to Up to the Mark in the beginning was just the
00:36dominant way that he won his grade one at Churchill Downs at a mile and eight.
00:42And then he came back in the Manhattan and did the same thing.
00:45I mean, to draw away from those grade one fields the way he did really appealed to me,
00:51being by not this time and having so much dirt in his pedigree, he showed what a brilliant
00:58turf horse he was and then take a summer break basically and come back and win backing
01:04up to a mile in a grade one here at Keeneland is just, you know, was just phenomenal.
01:10For him to win grade ones at a mile, a mile and an eighth, and a mile and a quarter was
01:14really special.
01:16And then, you know, everybody saw what he did in the Breeders' Cup.
01:19I mean, that was, by all accounts, maybe the best graded race in the world.
01:24Pure raw ability-wise, this is a phenomenal horse, and I think it's really a great opportunity
01:32to breed a horse of this quality.
01:34He's out of a Go Sabre mare, he's out of a Capote mare, so he's Seattle Slough on the
01:39bottom side, and he definitely looks very like a dirt type.
01:46Obviously surprised everybody a little bit just how good he is on the turf, but he really
01:51is a world-class turf horse.
01:54There's plenty of speed in the pedigree, and, you know, again, I think his turn of foot,
02:00which is really what sets him apart from a lot of American horses, is he really had that
02:07tremendous burst, and he could deliver it at a mile, a mile and an eighth, a mile and
02:12a quarter, and ultimately at a mile and a half.
02:15And his beautiful head on him, and really a great presence, and just that physique that,
02:22you know, yearling buyers love, he really has that fast look to him, and great shape
02:27to his top line.
02:29I think breeders are going to love what they see, and as he lets down and continues to
02:33mature, he's just going to be a lovely stallion.
02:37To start him at $25,000 when he's a three-time grade one winner and top Breeders' Cup horse
02:44is great value for breeders, I think, and, you know, we're so excited about what he can do.
