00:00Good morning. It's a bit of a disappointing and wet start to the bank holiday weekend
00:04for many of us, but things will get a bit drier, particularly across southern areas
00:09as the weekend goes on. But through Saturday, rainfall totals will start to build up, particularly
00:14across the south and east, but also across northwestern areas. As we head into the latter
00:18part of the weekend, though, it turns drier across eastern areas of the UK. Rainfall will
00:23continue across the north and west, but there will be less by the time we get to Monday.
00:29But back to this morning, where we've got that wet weather across many southern areas.
00:33There is a rain warning in force until at least lunchtime for these areas. There could
00:36be some travel disruption across these areas if you are out on the roads or taking any
00:41public transport. Once that does clear away into this afternoon, there's a risk of some
00:45quite heavy showers across many areas of central and eastern areas of England. And at first
00:49this morning, across more western areas into parts of Wales and the southwest, as well
00:54as the far northwest, the driest weather likely across more northern areas of England.
00:59But quite a brisk westerly wind will keep temperatures well below average for the time
01:03of year, particularly across the south and east, where we hold on to quite a lot of clouds
01:07through the day. It's going to be a much cooler day today compared to yesterday. And showers
01:12will continue across eastern areas, bringing a risk of thundery downpours into this evening.
01:16Overnight, though, the showers will tend to fade away. So it's a clearer picture as we
01:20head into Sunday morning. But across parts of Northern Ireland and western Scotland,
01:25they will continue and the winds will remain fairly brisk here. But elsewhere, with clearer
01:30skies across the bulk of the UK, it's going to be a fresher night tonight. But that does
01:34mean it will be a sunnier start to Sunday. So the best of the sunshine is likely on Sunday
01:40morning, particularly across eastern areas of the UK, lasting for the longest across
01:44the south. As further north, the next batch of wet weather will spread into parts of Northern
01:48Ireland, southwest Scotland in particular, through Sunday, where there could be some
01:52further localised flooding issues. But for many of us, it just turns a bit cloudier through
01:57the day on Sunday. But I think actually across the south and east, it will remain fairly
02:02dry and there will still be some brighter skies. However, temperatures still a little
02:07below par for the time of year, just in the higher teens for most of us. Some areas reaching
02:12the low 20s across the south and east where we do see the best of any sunshine, particularly
02:17through the morning. Looking ahead to Monday, this wet weather will move out the way and
02:22there will be more in the way of dry weather more widely on Monday. It looks a bit warmer
02:26as well, but it's not until the middle of the week where temperatures rise above average.
