00:00Hello there. Welcome to your Wednesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:05Now through the next 24 hours, rain spreads across the country with some stronger winds.
00:09The ridge which we've seen through Wednesday tends to fade away towards the east as this rain arrives from the west.
00:16The winds will pick up some strength particularly through the afternoon on Thursday,
00:20even some gales along coastal districts towards the southwest.
00:24And notice this area of low pressure here will remain in place through Friday
00:29and in fact into the weekend as well with rain or showers.
00:33So let's backtrack to Wednesday evening. It's pleasant outside, even some sunshine.
00:38More clouds across this eastern strip here. A little showery rain can't be ruled out across Shetland.
00:44Now overnight, temperatures falling away under some starry skies.
00:48However, across Northern Ireland, Cornwall, maybe Pembrokeshire,
00:52temperatures holding up as the winds pick up some strength, mixing up the air.
00:56And eventually that cloud will thicken across Northern Ireland with some rain hot on its heels
01:00towards the west of the province through the early hours of tomorrow morning.
01:04Elsewhere, it's a dry end to the night, a fairly clear one, and temperatures on the low side.
01:10So a bit of a chilly start to the day. Come Thursday morning at least though, you'll see some sunshine.
01:15Now through the day, this sun will be replaced by clouds as it slowly tracks its way eastwards.
01:22It will be a slow process, but a wet and windy start for Northern Ireland, West Wales, the West Country.
01:27That rain by around lunchtime reaches the western side of Scotland.
01:32North West England seeing some patchy rain and we could see some just moving in across the West Midlands.
01:37We hang on to some sunshine across Orkney as well as Caithness, Aberdeenshire, Cairngorms,
01:43and some dry skies across the home counties, East Anglia, even southern parts of Lincolnshire.
01:49So through Thursday evening if you are travelling, it's fine across the far north of Scotland.
01:54But you may run into some heavy rain across the central belt, Northern Ireland, Northern England,
01:58particularly towards Pennine districts, the north west, down towards Wales as well.
02:03Notice these winds, they will be a feature of the weather across Irish sea coasts.
02:07Yes, some strength here.
02:09Now further east through Thursday evening, some patchy rain across central southern England,
02:14but mostly dry for Kent, Norfolk, Suffolk, and even Essex.
02:18However, as we head through the evening time and overnight, this rain continues its march eastwards.
02:24So wet weather across most parts with a few showers maybe just climbing in behind that centre of the low,
02:31just moving towards Northern Ireland.
02:33Again, the odd heavier pulse can't be ruled out overnight.
02:36And then the winds pick up some strength across the far east of England as well as the eastern side of Scotland.
02:43We're in a showery regime on Friday.
02:46Temperatures are notch up though, 17 to 19 degrees Celsius.
02:49And this pretty much sets the scene for the weekend.
02:52The risk of thunder, some heavy pulses of rain.
02:54The winds will be strong at times.
02:56You can see this low pressure here just sitting across the country and will continue to feed that cloud and showers
03:03and some breezy conditions as we head through Saturday and into Sunday.
03:08So wherever you are, cater for some wet weather, a little sunshine coming through from time to time though.
03:12I'll see you later.
