29 July - National weather forecast presented by Jonathan Vautrey
Transcript
00:00Hello there. There is some sunshine around this weekend to enjoy in places, but we are
00:05also holding on to the rather unsettled theme that we've had throughout much of July so
00:08far. Some showers, particularly further rain on Sunday as well. Sunday's low pressure
00:13centre is gaining pace out in the Atlantic, but for Saturday it's this area of low pressure
00:17situated to the northwest of the UK that will be our main feature. Generally, the closer
00:21you are towards the area of low pressure, the more frequent showers you'll see throughout
00:25the day. So particularly Northern Ireland, parts of Scotland, some of those showers could
00:28be quite heavy, maybe with some isolated hail and thunder causing some surface water issues
00:33as well. Further towards the south and east, the showers will be well scattered, so providing
00:38more of those sunny spells in between, and some areas may actually stay largely dry as
00:42we head into this afternoon. In those sunnier spots as well, temperatures still climbing
00:46towards a pleasant 23, 24 degrees Celsius, but there are some quite blustery winds in
00:51places, particularly along coastal areas around the Irish Sea through into the northwest as
00:56well. Gusts of 35 miles per hour possible in places, and that will make it feel rather
01:00cool if you are caught out in that breeze. Into this evening, we'll continue to see those
01:05showers pushing through at quite a pace across Northern Ireland into western Scotland as
01:09well. A few lingering across western England down into Wales, pushing through the Bristol
01:13Channel, but for the bulk of England and Wales, the showers will ease out a touch and allow
01:17for some clear intervals to develop overnight. With those blustery winds still in place,
01:21though, that will be mixing up the air and preventing our temperatures from dropping
01:25too far at all. Most of us will hold up around 12, 14 degrees Celsius overnight, so not too
01:30chilly at all. We might drop into single figures in some rural areas of north east Scotland,
01:37but there will be showers from the word go for central southern Scotland's putting down
01:41into northern England again. Still could be heavy for a time during the daytime as well.
01:46We'll start to see a few more scattered showers developing through the highlands up towards
01:49Cape Ness, but at least some sunnier spells developing in between. As we head towards
01:55the middle part of the day as well, we'll be increasingly watching as the cloud builds
01:59in from the southwest rain spreading its way into Wales, southwest England, Northern Ireland
02:04later on and by mid afternoon as well. Some of those outbreaks could stretch their way
02:08into southeastern areas of England as well. So turning increasingly unsettled and rather
02:13damp theme to end the day here. Temperatures will be held back underneath that rain and
02:19cloud as well. Round high teens into just the low 20s in a few places will also be building
02:25in the humidity once again starting to feel a bit sticky, even with the breeze and blustery
02:30winds that will still be around for many of us where you hold onto the sunshine across
02:34the far east of England up into parts of eastern Scotland as well. Might push towards 21 to
02:3923 degrees Celsius in a slightly more pleasant part of the afternoon into the evening. We'll
02:45then watch as that rain continues to progress its way eastwards, particularly could turn
02:49persistent for parts of Northern Ireland into Northern England later on as well. And generally
02:53for the central belt of Scotland southwards, it will increasingly turn rather cloudy and
02:58damp as we head into that overnight period. The winds strengthening even further the potential
03:02for 40 mile an hour gusts across coastal areas of Wales down to the southwest England, maybe
03:06some localised coastal gales in places for most of mainland northern Scotland, though
03:11generally we'll see a clearer evening to come. The showers generally fading their way
03:15out, some late evening sunshine and staying dry into the overnight period as well. We'll
03:20have all the updates as we head throughout the weekend, so do make sure you're following
03:25us across all of our social media channels and we'll be back with you again very shortly.
03:29Bye bye.
