28 July - National weather forecast presented by Jonathan Vautrey
Transcript
00:00Hello there. Friday looks to be a relatively quiet end to the working week. Whilst there
00:06will be a fair amount of cloud around, as this image from the Fens earlier on shows,
00:10we do have those brighter sunnier spells trying to poke their way through, and we will see
00:15a number of those throughout the day as well. A lot of places will also stay dry, but we
00:20still have a scattering of showers to contend with. Some of those could turn heavy, particularly
00:24for parts of north east England into eastern areas of Scotland as well. Some more persistent
00:28rain and cloud across parts of the Northern Isles as well during the daytime. In those
00:33sunnier spells though, temperatures relatively close to average for the time of year, around
00:38highs of 19 to 23 degrees Celsius. As we head into this evening, some of us will hold on
00:44to those sunny spells as well for a little late sunshine, but there'll still be a fair
00:48amount of cloud as we head into the overnight period. Scattered showers still pushing their
00:52way through in places again could turn heavy for times across areas of south east England
00:57and this other band that moves into western areas as well. The breeze will be strengthening,
01:02particularly across parts of Northern Ireland through the Irish Sea, turning a bit gustier
01:05here, and it is also western areas where temperatures will just drop off that bit more during the
01:10overnight period, feeling a bit cooler compared to some recent nights down to around 12, 13
01:15degrees Celsius. Further to the south east, though, we are still holding on to some of
01:19that humidity, still relatively muggy feel in places in a mild start to Saturday morning.
01:25These bands of showers that you see pushing their way through, they're all associated
01:29with frontal systems that are swirling around this area of low pressure and that's staying
01:32with us throughout Saturday to provide a relatively unsettled weekend. The ice bar is just squeezing
01:37together a bit more as well, so turning increasingly blustery for many of us. That does though
01:42mean that the showers that do develop on Saturday will push through at a relatively quick pace,
01:47allowing for again the sunny spells to develop in between. The showers most likely to be
01:52frequent further towards the north and west, particularly for Northern Ireland, parts of
01:56western Scotland. They could be heavy at times, maybe with some thunderstorms and hail in
02:00the mixture as well. A blustery feeling day as well, particularly along those western
02:05coastal areas, gusts of 30, 35 miles an hour possible, so it is certainly going to feel
02:09cooler compared to Friday up here. Temperatures only reaching mid to high teens at best. Further
02:16towards the south and east, again in those sunnier spots that do develop relatively similar
02:20temperatures on the thermometer compared to Friday around 23, maybe a nice or 24 degrees
02:25Celsius as well. But again, the breeze just in there as well could make it feel just that
02:29bit cooler. Into Saturday evening, some of those showers will begin to fade their way
02:35off across a good chunk of England and Wales, and it should turn largely dry into the evening
02:39and again some late sunny spells to enjoy despite the blustery winds. But further towards
02:44the north and west, it's always going to remain quite showery into the evening and again into
02:48the overnight period, and we've got to get used to showers because there'll be more of
02:52them developing quite widely as we head into Sunday as well. Perhaps some longer spells
02:57of rain in places as well, and temperatures again just feeling slightly on the cool side.
03:01Do keep up to date with the full forecast as we head into the rest of the weekend and
03:06of course the new working week as well. You can find all of our regular updates across
03:10social media channels and we'll be back with you again very shortly. Bye bye.
