28 July - National weather forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst
Transcript
00:00Hello there and welcome to your latest broadcast from the Met Office. Well, quite cloudy skies
00:05across much of the UK through Thursday itself, some bright or sunny spells developing. Largely
00:10settled thanks to high pressure. However, as we end the week and go into the weekend,
00:14we will see a change. Weather systems will start to move in from the Atlantic, initially
00:18giving showery rain across the north and the west of the UK, but perhaps later on into
00:23Sunday the risk of some rain in the south too. But some uncertainties with timing of
00:28this as we move through the day on Sunday. Back to Thursday afternoon and we'll see a
00:34lot of cloud across the UK. We will see some bright or sunny spells, the risk of a few
00:37showers across parts of Wales, South West England, but it's across eastern parts of
00:42Northern Ireland, southern parts of Scotland, Dumfries and Galloway, the borders. We could
00:47see one or two heavy showers developing, perhaps 20 to 30 millimetres of rain in a short period
00:52of time here. So we could see some localised flooding. So it's worth keeping up to date
00:56with the forecast here. But a lot of places across the UK, despite the cloud, will be
01:02dry. Temperature wise, generally the high teens to low 20s, highs around about 24 Celsius
01:07across the London area, which is 75 in Fahrenheit. As we head through Thursday afternoon into
01:13the evening time, still some showers across northern England, southern parts of Scotland.
01:18One or two of these could be heavy at times, this rain perhaps stretching a bit further
01:22south into the Pennines as we move into the early hours. But generally across the whole
01:27of the UK, it should be dry. Some clear spells developing, particularly across the south
01:32of the UK. But despite these clear spells, temperatures generally 12 to 15 Celsius are
01:37still on the mild side. So a fairly warm start to Friday morning, more in the way of sunny
01:42spells though across central and southern parts of England and Wales compared to Thursday
01:46morning. Still this cloud across northern England, southern Scotland, giving a few splashes
01:50of rain. This should break up into the afternoon, but may develop a few showers as we go through
01:55the afternoon. One or two of these could be heavy, perhaps stretching into Wales and the
01:59Midlands too. But elsewhere, generally fine and dry, plenty of sunny spells. And with
02:04a bit more sunshine around, we should lift temperatures a little higher. We could see
02:0826 or 27. 27 is 81 in Fahrenheit. Later on in the day, though, thicker cloud and outbreaks
02:15of rain moving into the northwest. And this is a sign of things to come as we head into
02:20the weekend Saturday, an increasing risk of showery rain across the north of the UK
02:25and into Sunday as well. We could see that rain spreading a little bit further south
02:28and east, but temperatures overall holding up in the mid to high 20s. So if you'd like
