26 July - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi, there. A lot of fine weather expected during the next few days, a few showers around
00:05but not enough to make up for the significant deficit that many areas are experiencing from
00:11the last few months. And in fact, the showers that we've seen at their liveliest across
00:17southern Scotland into northern England through Monday, they drift south and largely ease
00:22by the time they get into East Anglia, the Midlands, northwest England. A legacy of cloud
00:26cover here, clear spells elsewhere and a fresh northwesterly breeze. So a cool night
00:33to come. Temperatures in the mid to high single figures in some sheltered spots as we start
00:37off Tuesday. But Tuesday starts dry for many. There'll still be a lot of cloud through
00:43these central and southern areas, I think, and it will take some time for that cloud
00:47to break up. But it will eventually. And by the afternoon, well, many places will see
00:51sunny spells. A few showers will develop northwest England into the Midlands and the southeast,
00:56for example, and northern Scotland. But elsewhere, only showers very isolated. And it's still
01:02going to be a coolish day. Temperatures not far from average. We're looking at high teens,
01:08perhaps 20 Celsius for Scotland and low to mid 20s towards the southeast. So feeling
01:15pleasant enough in the sunny spells and with the wind easing as well. Well, that means
01:19that it will, I think, feel a bit warmer compared with Monday, even if it won't especially measure
01:26warmer on the thermometers. Into the evening, the shower clouds disappear apart from windward
01:32coasts in the north and looks like under those clear skies, temperatures will again fall
01:37into the single figures in sheltered spots, just about holding up in the double figures
01:41in towns and cities. So another fresh start to Wednesday, but bright blue skies sort of
01:48start the day and actually plenty of sunny spells for much of the morning. But shower
01:53clouds will develop and there'll be some moderate, perhaps fairly well scattered showers
01:59developing across southern and central parts of England as well as Wales. They'll drift
02:04north and then one or two showers further north across northern England, Scotland and
02:08Northern Ireland as well. But away from the showers, again, sunny spells and temperatures
02:14responding quite well to the sunshine. 22 to 24 Celsius in the south, high teens, perhaps
02:2020 Celsius further north. But no significant rainfall expected this week, so good news
02:26on the whole for holidaymakers, not so good news if you need the rainfall. And we'll keep
02:32you updated as always. You can follow those updates on social media. Bye bye.
