23 July - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00A cloudy, warm, humid day for much of the country.
00:04You've noticed the difference, probably, if you've been outside, that increased humidity.
00:08We had a lot of rain overnight.
00:10That rain has been easing in most areas, but we do have this line of rain which is only
00:14slowly tracking its way across Scotland.
00:17Thick cloud, drizzly conditions, misty, murky conditions on the south coast of England too,
00:21with further rain at times over the southeast and quite breezy here.
00:25That's where many places dry and brightening up, but if we see a bit of sunshine poking
00:30through, particularly over northeast England, southeast Scotland, that might actually spark
00:34some late, heavy, even thundery showers.
00:38But as I said, most places won't see those and just be dry, cloudy, and fairly humid.
00:44So even without much sunshine, temperatures getting into the high teens, low 20s, and
00:48a bit of sunshine, we'll see temperatures perhaps jumping up a little bit more.
00:51It's cooler across the Northern Isles.
00:53Most places here dry and fine, actually, through the day, but the rain across Scotland
00:57will push northwards overnight into Orkney.
01:00Elsewhere, most places becoming dry.
01:03Any of those heavy showers over eastern England, southeast Scotland should fade away, and it'll
01:08stay fairly cloudy across England and Wales.
01:11But clearer skies for western Scotland, northern Ireland, a sign that fresher air is arriving.
01:16So temperatures likely to dip a little here, but for most elsewhere, another pretty warm
01:19and humid night, 15 or 16 below.
01:23So on to Friday, and it will start fairly grey, I suspect, over eastern England and
01:28southern England.
01:29It's going to be a fairly cloudy day over the Northern Isles, with the rain moving slowly
01:32from Orkney up towards Shetland.
01:34But elsewhere, many places actually seeing a bright day tomorrow, and yes, there'll be
01:39a few scattered showers, but most will be dry for much of the day and with brighter
01:43skies and a fresher feel as well.
01:46We will see some showers certainly coming to Northern Ireland later on in the day as
01:50the breeze starts to pick up here.
01:52Temperatures again getting into the high teens, low 20s, perhaps a little higher over parts
01:56of eastern England, 23, 24 Celsius, so feeling quite pleasant when the sun is out.
02:02And speaking of sunshine, there will be more of that through Friday evening and into the
02:07weekend.
02:08But there will also be more of these, more showers.
02:10This here spiralling is an area of low pressure, and that will dominate our weather through
02:15the weekend.
02:16It is moving its way in and around it.
02:18We will see bands of showers zipping through, the isobar squeezing together, so it's going
02:23to feel fresher with an increasing breeze at times too.
02:27And then this next weather system starts to introduce cloud, maybe some rain into the
02:31southwest later on Sunday.
02:33But broadly speaking, the weekend will be that mix of sunshine and showers, not as wet
02:37as it was last weekend, but we could see some heavy showers.
02:41Most places will see some sunny spells though through the weekend, but there will be that
02:45cool breeze and it won't be quite so humid.
