00:00Hello, welcome to your national weather update from the Met Office.
00:03Quite a lot of cloud across the country today and as a result a little cooler than yesterday
00:08and of course a lot cooler than it was earlier in the week.
00:12High pressure is dominating but weather fronts aren't too far away,
00:15they will influence our weather come the weekend.
00:18Under that high pressure we've got quite a lot of cloud trapped but it is high pressure
00:22so not too many showers developing, one or two across parts of south-west Scotland,
00:27north-west England but otherwise the vast majority dry.
00:31Some sunny spells particularly around coasts, the east coast of England,
00:34north and west coast of Scotland, north coast of Northern Ireland,
00:37parts of west Wales, south-west England doing okay for a bit of blue sky
00:41but otherwise it is mostly grey and as a result it is a bit cooler
00:46and temperatures mostly in the high teens, low twenties
00:49but still into the mid-twenties across parts of the south.
00:52That cloud will keep the temperatures up overnight.
00:55We will see a few more showers developing over parts of north-west England,
00:59south-west Scotland and eastern Scotland and through the night
01:02chance of a few more drifting north over southern England,
01:05into the Midlands and parts of south Wales.
01:08As I said those temperatures will be held up by the cloud cover
01:11so a warmer night than last night but again nothing like the temperatures
01:15we saw in the nights at the start of the week, 15 or 16 the low across the south.
01:20Friday again a predominantly cloudy day but there will be more showers
01:23I think on Friday and there could be some quite heavy ones,
01:26parts of the Midlands, south Wales and as we go through the day
01:29the potential for some very lively downpours to develop across parts of the south.
01:34We do have a Met Office yellow warning in place,
01:36not everywhere seeing those downpours, of course the rain will be welcome in some spots
01:41but the rain will be so heavy that it could cause some problems,
01:44some disruption is possible, certainly a lot of spray and surface water on the roads.
01:48Showers won't be as intense further north but still one or two heavy ones
01:51over parts of the Midlands drifting into northern England
01:54and a scattering across Scotland too.
01:56Northern Ireland should stay dry and fine,
01:58not too many showers across the southeast either with some spells of sunshine here
02:03lifting the temperatures once more into the mid-20s.
02:06Again many other places though only in the mid to high teens
02:09so really quite cool actually for the time of year.
02:12Some of those heavy thundery showers could keep going well into the evening
02:17so we do have that yellow warning for thunderstorms in place
02:20until 10 o'clock across parts of south Wales and southern England.
02:25Again they will be hit and miss but again they could cause some disruption.
02:29A few scattered showers across parts of Scotland, elsewhere largely dry.
02:33Those weather fronts out west though are going to shift things into the weekend.
02:36The isobars squeezing together as well as this low pressure starts to dominate
02:40so turning blustery and these weather fronts will bring outbreaks of rain
02:44initially across the northwest but spreading steadily southwards.
02:47However much of eastern England likely to stay dry until late on Sunday
02:51and in here there'll be some warmer air temperatures
02:54could on Sunday be back up to around 30 degrees Celsius
02:57so big contrasts across the country this weekend.
