00:00Hello there, welcome to your weather update from the Met. As we go through the next few
00:04days, changes on the way, it's going to start to turn a good deal colder across the UK.
00:09But before we get there, we've still got this area of low pressure to contend with and still
00:12some tightly packed isobars on it, especially across parts of Northern Ireland, Northern
00:16England and Scotland. So, some very windy weather here as we go through the rest of
00:20Saturday. But as that low pressure moves off into the continent, it allows us to open up
00:25the gates to some very cold air from the Arctic, bringing certainly a very different spell
00:30of weather to what we've had so far this year. Back to this afternoon, however, we've still
00:35got some rain to contend with across the very far south-eastern corner, but that will clear.
00:40So for most of England and Wales, it's a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers. Similar
00:45story for Northern Ireland, but for Scotland, we still have this area of rain lingering
00:50throughout all the afternoon and that rain will turn to snow across the high ground.
00:53So, feeling quite cold here, highs only around 5 to 3 degrees. Further south, after a mild
00:59morning, actually, temperatures falling away as the afternoon goes on. So, we'll probably
01:03be hovering around 9 to 10 degrees in the far south-eastern corner as we approach 3,
01:084 o'clock this afternoon. So, going into this evening, for a lot of England and Wales, we'll
01:13see a mixture of clear spells and showers, with the showers mainly focused across western
01:17areas. Further north, this band of rain and hill snow will sink its way into Northern
01:22Ireland, parts of Northern England as the night goes on, and behind it, that's when
01:25we start to tap into the very cold air. So, some frequent wintry showers for Scotland,
01:31and under the clear skies, a widespread frost and also some ice on any untreated surfaces.
01:37Further south, a colder night than of late, but here we should remain above freezing.
01:42So all in all, a cold day for all of us, I think, on Sunday. This area of rain and hill
01:46snow will continue to track its way southwards across the country, weakening as it does so.
01:51Behind it, plenty of sunshine actually developing for Northern England and parts of Scotland,
01:56but still some frequent snow showers across the far north of Scotland, and combined with
02:00a very brisk north-easterly wind, it's going to feel very cold up here as we go through
02:05the afternoon. Further south, actually, temperature is more typical than what we've seen of late,
02:10so it will feel cold, but actually 7 or 8 is where we should be for the time of year.
02:16Later on in the day, we'll then start to see some areas of rain and showers move in from
02:20the west. As that bumps up into the colder air, we could see some sleet and snow across
02:24parts of the country as we go into Sunday night. And then really, as we go into Monday
02:29itself, we may see some morning rain for the south-east, but otherwise a mixture of sunny
02:34spells and wintry showers. But note the temperatures here, definitely below average for all of
02:39us, and that will continue as we go into the week ahead. So we can expect some further
02:45ice and frost issues and also some further snow. So you can always check out the most
02:50latest information on our website or through our various social media channels. But that's
02:54all from me for now.
