00:00Hello and welcome to your national weather update from the Met Office.
00:04This weekend promises dry and cloudy for the vast majority and that's where we
00:09are on Friday as well. It started off with quite a bit of sunshine across the east
00:12but there's quite a lot of cloud now spilling in. It's thick enough for some
00:16patchy rain over parts of England and Wales and quite a wet day over the
00:20Highlands. It's also very windy across Scotland, very blustery conditions and
00:24getting gusty at times across northeast England as well. Some breaks in the cloud
00:29here and across East Anglia and the southeast a bit of sunshine coming
00:32through but generally just turning cloudier from the west and that cloud
00:36over the hills of Wales, the coast of the southwest might just produce a little
00:40bit of light rain and drizzle. Certainly quite misty and murky here. The rain
00:44clearing away from the Northern Isles but as I say staying very windy here
00:47through the rest of today. The rain continues as well into the evening over
00:51the Highlands but even here steadily through the night should tend to peter
00:56out. So most places having a dry and a cloudy night. The winds still quite gusty
01:01at first but easing steadily certainly over northern England through the night
01:05and generally light winds further south may allow a little bit of fog to form
01:09and where skies do stay clear temperatures may dip close to freezing
01:14but for most it's going to stay cloudy and that cloud will act like a blanket
01:18keeping the temperatures up to start the weekend. So Saturday starts dry and
01:23cloudy and not going to see a great deal of change for most places. We could see a
01:27few breaks in the cloud and equally we could see that cloud thickening to bring
01:31a little bit of drizzle over the hills of Wales and the Highlands and again
01:34around the coast at times but generally getting a little brighter through the
01:38day. The cloud lifting as I said breaking in a few spots so you may see a little
01:42bit of blue sky. Still quite breezy in the far northwest but not as windy as
01:46today and certainly for most of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England the
01:49winds are a lot lighter on Saturday. Light winds across the south continue
01:54and temperatures getting up to 10, 11, 12 Celsius so for most places quite a bit
01:59milder than it has been for much of this week and temperatures a few degrees
02:03above average. Not going to see a great deal of change on Saturday night if
02:06you're heading out again most places just dry and cloudy still a bit of
02:10drizzle and a brisk breeze blowing in the far northwest but otherwise little
02:14change not much happening. As we head into Sunday this is all being dominated
02:19by high pressure and this high likely to stick around through the weekend and
02:23indeed Monday and Tuesday next week. Weather fronts try and topple in but
02:28don't really succeed so under the influence of high pressure Sunday again
02:32looking dry for the vast majority often fairly cloudy but we'll see some
02:36brighter spells and certainly compared to recent days for many it will be on
02:40the mild side. Make sure you keep up to date with the weather as we go into next
02:44week by following us through this weekend right across social media.
