00:00After a wintry week of weather, it will be turning milder through this weekend.
00:04But we are going to start the weekend very cold indeed.
00:07And we do still have ice and snow warnings in place.
00:11This area of low pressure, named Storm Larissa by the French Weather Service
00:15because it brought them some very strong winds, is now pulling away.
00:18But it has allowed that northerly wind to bring the colder air back in
00:22and temperatures are plummeting through Friday night into Saturday morning,
00:26well below freezing across most of the country.
00:29Snow showers continuing through the night across northern most parts of Scotland
00:33getting into Aberdeenshire by morning time.
00:35A little bit of rain in the southwest, perhaps some sleet and snow over the tops of the moors.
00:40But for the vast majority, it is dry, it is clear and it is going to be a cold start to the weekend.
00:47Minus 4, minus 5 Celsius, minus 7 or 8 in one or two places.
00:50And we could again get down to minus 12 to minus 15 through some sheltered glens across Scotland.
00:56Above freezing in the southwest with the cloud and the outbreaks of rain here,
00:59it will make for a damp start to the weekend.
01:02Elsewhere, quite a lot of sunshine to begin with.
01:05The rain at low levels, as I say, could provide a little bit of sleet and snow over the tops of the moors.
01:10And then it spreads its way into Wales and Northern Ireland.
01:13Again, some snow mixed in with this as it arrives during the day, mostly over hills.
01:18But you could see some lower levels, but just temporarily.
01:22For much of northern England, eastern England,
01:24most of Scotland, it's just a dry, fine day on Saturday with decent spells of sunshine.
01:30But it will be clouding over across the Midlands.
01:32Some rain creeping in here late in the day.
01:34Another pretty chilly one, despite some decent spells of sunshine.
01:37Temperatures are going to struggle because of that cold start more than anything,
01:41particularly where there's any snow lying on the ground.
01:44But temperatures generally getting up to six, seven degrees Celsius.
01:47And notice milder areas coming into the southwest as the breeze picks up a sign of things to come.
01:53But before it turns milder for most of us, this wet weather will hit the cold air.
01:57And so that means we could see some heavier snow and getting down to lower levels across northern England
02:03and spreading up into parts of Scotland during Saturday night and into Sunday.
02:07Again, probably not lasting all that long as it eases off and then turns milder.
02:12But that snow across northern England spreading into Scotland during Saturday night
02:16and Sunday morning could also cause some disruption and likely to make things very icy once more in places, too.
02:23So we do have a Met Office yellow warning in place for that.
02:27Elsewhere further south, we should see clearer skies developing and it won't be as cold.
02:31Temperatures mostly staying above freezing across England and Wales.
02:34So a milder start to Sunday and Sunday will be a milder day generally.
02:39Quite a lot of clouds still across Scotland, still some snow mixed in here,
02:44but tending to turn more to rain through the day.
02:46And there will be looks like further outbreaks of rain for Northern Ireland pushing into Scotland,
02:50maybe northern England, but a good part of England and Wales likely to stay dry on Sunday
02:56until this next weather system comes in later on.
02:58But that'll mostly be overnight. The winds will be picking up.
03:01But look at the wind direction. Not looking at northerlies anymore.
03:04The winds coming up from the southwest bringing with it milder air.
03:08So by the end of Sunday, temperatures easily getting to double digits and into the teens across parts of the south.
03:14So it is going to turn milder through this weekend as this next low pressure comes in during Saturday night.
03:20It will bring more wet and windy weather and things may turn colder again as we go into next week.
03:26Please keep up to date with all the Met Office weather warnings through our app or our website
03:31and stay across the Met Office output throughout this weekend on social media.
