00:00Welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:03You're probably aware by now, storm systems
00:04are heading for the UK.
00:05We have an amber warning in force for Storm Dudley
00:08on Wednesday across parts of northern Britain.
00:10We've got weather system crossing the UK at the moment,
00:13and it's followed by another one tonight,
00:15bringing more wet and windy weather.
00:17It's not until through Wednesday that this storm system arrives.
00:21That is Storm Dudley, and that will bring the strongest
00:24winds, say, more particularly across the northern half
00:26of the UK.
00:27Dudley will zip through then, and all eyes
00:31focus on Thursday and Friday out in the Atlantic
00:33as this weather system develops and will
00:35turn into Storm Eunice hitting more southern parts of the UK,
00:39bringing, again, potential for damaging gusts of wind,
00:42but also some snowfall.
00:45I'll have more details of the warnings in just a moment.
00:47But first of all, let's get through Tuesday afternoon,
00:50because we do have a weather system bringing outbreaks
00:52of rain across the country currently,
00:54clearing away from the Midlands, Northeast England,
00:57and slowly ebbing away from East Anglia and the Southeast
01:00by the end of the day.
01:01Brighter skies then for many, just a scattering
01:04of showers across Scotland, still pretty windy
01:07across northern Scotland.
01:08Temperature-wise, close to average for the time of year
01:11across northern Britain, mostly single figures here.
01:14But further south, it's a little bit mild.
01:16It doesn't feel all that pleasant, though,
01:17with the wind and the rain across the far southeast.
01:20But it is clearing away, should be gone by around dusk
01:24from Kent, and then some clearer skies across the east,
01:26allowing things to turn a little chilly.
01:29But only briefly as that next weather system arrives,
01:31bringing a spell of rain swinging across the country
01:34overnight, with the colder air in place across Scotland.
01:37There will be some snow here over some of the higher routes
01:40and again, some gusty winds.
01:42Elsewhere, it'll be rain that we see, and it's gone by dawn.
01:45So for many, Wednesday will start dry.
01:48It will turn quite cold through the evening,
01:51but this weather system will bring milder air in it.
01:53So these are the numbers by dawn,
01:559, 10, 11 Celsius.
01:56Still the cold air in place across northern Scotland,
01:59hence why we continue to see some snow mixed in here.
02:02And that'll be around 4 in the morning.
02:04In fact, lingering that wet weather
02:05across the far northeast well into Wednesday.
02:08And then here comes Storm Dudley.
02:10Heavy rain moving into northern Ireland
02:11initially through the morning,
02:13spreading into southern Scotland and northern England.
02:16Showery rain further south,
02:17and then a band of really lively rain with squally winds.
02:21That's the word, the winds just suddenly whip up
02:23moving across northern England and Wales come the afternoon.
02:27Again, as the wet weather hits the cold air across Scotland,
02:29some snow on the higher routes,
02:31but the greatest cause for concern will be those winds,
02:34which just continue to strengthen throughout the day.
02:38Dudley is bringing with it mild air.
02:39So we start at double figures in many places
02:42and come the afternoon,
02:43temperatures may well be into the teens,
02:46up to 14, 15 Celsius across parts of the south.
02:49But obviously, the wind will make it feel
02:51a little cooler than that.
02:53Let's have a look at those winds, though,
02:54because the storm system itself heading across Scotland,
02:57it's a little further south now.
02:59So northern Scotland, not likely to see such dangerous winds.
03:03And we've shifted the yellow warning further south
03:06into parts of Wales, the Midlands and across into East Anglia.
03:09The amber warning still in place,
03:11gust of wind 60, 70 miles an hour in exposed places,
03:15coast and hills, we could see 80, possibly even 90 miles an hour.
03:19Anywhere in the warning area likely to see travel disruptions,
03:22certainly issues with ferries being cancelled,
03:24but also issues with the road and the rail network.
03:28And in the amber area in particular,
03:29greater risk of power issues, power cuts likely.
03:33There'll be large waves sloshing onto those western coasts as well.
03:38So some coastal flooding, an extra hazard.
03:41So we have those warnings in place for Storm Dudley
03:43through Wednesday evening
03:45and into the early hours of Thursday morning,
03:48that yellow warning is in place as well.
03:50And there will be heavy rain associated with it as well,
03:53zipping through there because of the strength of the wind,
03:56but bands of heavy showers, squally showers.
03:59Again, that's where the winds just suddenly whip up,
04:02moving through during Wednesday evening,
04:04but clearing through as well.
04:05Storm Dudley doesn't hang around out into the North Sea
04:08by Thursday morning, still a windy day on Thursday.
04:11But here comes Storm Eunice, different angle of attack,
04:14so different areas likely to be affected by this storm.
04:16It's further ahead and it's got to develop.
04:19It hasn't even formed yet.
04:20So more uncertainty about the exact intensity,
04:23the exact location of Storm Eunice on Friday,
04:26but we have this broad yellow area in place,
04:29strong gust of wind.
04:31Again, at the moment,
04:32the strongest winds likely to be across the south,
04:35but that storm system could also shift a little in its track
04:39and it is also likely to bring some snowfall,
04:42most likely at this stage, Southern Scotland, Northern Ireland
04:45and parts of Northern England.
04:47So please keep up to date with the latest forecast
