00:00Welcome to your national weather update. A very windy start to Friday across
00:05northern England and Scotland in particular. Storm Otto is now clearing
00:09away but still bringing some very strong gusts. This swirl of cloud is the storm
00:13system drifting right over the northern isles. Look at the squeeze on the isobars
00:17there. That's why we had the warnings in place but still bringing some very
00:21strong gusts into this afternoon particularly over parts of eastern
00:25Scotland and northeast England. The showers in northern Scotland tending to
00:29fade but will keep some going over the northern isles. Bit of light rain at
00:32times across South Wales, southwest England but generally in the south just
00:36a bit breezy and cloudy. Really quite mild here once more with temperatures
00:40getting into the teens in places. Further north it's turning colder through the
00:45afternoon. It certainly feels colder with the strength of those winds. The winds
00:50will continue to ease though through the afternoon and into the evening but then
00:54more rain comes into northern Ireland initially spreading into Scotland. As
00:58that hits the colder air we will see quite a bit of snow falling. Now this is
01:01north of the central belt and mostly over hills but above 300-400 metres we
01:06could see a few centimetres of snow. So some pretty grim travelling conditions
01:10overnight with that snow on the higher routes across parts of the Highlands and
01:14the Grampians. There'll be some rain but easing from northern Ireland. We'll see
01:18some working into northern England. There's a line of rain sinking south will
01:21be fairly light. Still quite a breezy night and still very mild in the south.
01:26Double digits for many here. Obviously we've got the colder air across parts of
01:30Scotland. So some here will dip close to freezing and as a result it could be
01:34icy. As we go into Saturday morning the snow and rain will be easing across
01:41central parts of Scotland. Still a few showers for northern England, northern
01:45Ireland and perhaps into the southwest as well. But many places will have a dry
01:49Saturday. Quite cloudy but some good spells of sunshine for northern
01:53Scotland I suspect. And further south it'll brighten up at times with a
01:57little bit of blue sky poking through. Again it will be really quite mild
02:01across the south. Particularly if you do see any blue sky, a bit of sunshine could
02:05lift those temperatures up to 14 maybe 15 Celsius. Under this zone of thicker
02:10cloud with rain and drizzle temperatures only 5 or 6 degrees through the central
02:15belt. So quite cool here I suspect and that rain just pepping up a little bit
02:20late in the day bringing a bit more hill snow for a time across parts of
02:24Scotland during Saturday night. Again further south staying predominantly dry.
02:30Weather system bringing that rain across parts of central Scotland during
02:34Saturday will steadily push away during the night and the bigger picture shows
02:38high pressure trying to build in from the southwest but another low heading
02:43its way towards Iceland. But it's weather fronts dangling down and the
02:47isobars squeezing together suggesting further wet and windy weather in the
02:51northwest on Sunday. So western Scotland seeing some outbreaks of rain and a
02:55strengthening wind. But for many again Sunday will be dry and cloudy and still
03:00relatively mild. Signs of things turning a bit colder as we go into next week. For
