Transcript
00:00Welcome to your latest national weather update from the Met Office.
00:03Plenty of sunshine across the UK today and there's more to come later this week.
00:07But for many, there will be some rain around Wednesday.
00:11That's all heading up from the south, but also drifting in from the northwest.
00:15We have a weather front that's bringing some rain today across Northern Ireland
00:18and Western Scotland, making slow progress.
00:21But eventually, we'll see some rain cropping up across the western Northern Ireland,
00:24the Highlands, the Western Isles and the Northern Isles.
00:27For the bulk of England and Wales, it is a fine day out there.
00:29Just a small chance of one or two showers over eastern England.
00:33In the sunny spells, temperatures responding.
00:35The sun is getting stronger at this time of year
00:38and we're likely to see those numbers getting up to 13, 14, 15,
00:42maybe even 16 degrees Celsius across parts of eastern England.
00:46It is cooler further north where we have the increasing breeze,
00:49cloud and the rain that will eventually trickle towards Glasgow and Belfast
00:54through the late afternoon into the early evening,
00:56then spread its way towards Edinburgh also.
00:59Overnight, the threat of thickening cloud coming up from the south.
01:03Some mist and fog patches, particularly for Northern Ireland actually,
01:06once the rain has cleared and it turns quite cold here too.
01:09Along with Western Scotland, there will be some pockets of frost here and there
01:13and temperatures dropping down to two or three degrees in towns and cities.
01:17But elsewhere, certainly urban areas, well above freezing with more cloud,
01:21it won't be as cold as last night.
01:24However, we are looking at a very different day on Wednesday.
01:27Much more cloud for England and Wales and some rain around.
01:30Now, initially, just this band of rain sinking south into north Wales,
01:34northwest England, but also we'll see the cloud thickening up
01:38across central and eastern parts of England
01:40and some outbreaks of rain developing here too.
01:42That could be on the heavy side.
01:44Still some uncertainty about exactly where we see that rain,
01:47but it could be quite a wet afternoon,
01:49certainly for a good part of eastern England, parts of the Midlands as well.
01:53Well, southwest England may well brighten up on a brighter day actually tomorrow
01:58for Northern Ireland, Western Scotland.
02:00Some good spells of sunshine here once any fog has cleared away,
02:03just a bit of a breeze and a few showers across the Western Isles.
02:07Temperatures won't be as high, of course, without the sunshine for England and Wales,
02:10but it's still quite warm air, so we could still get to 13, 14,
02:13if we do see some brightness, maybe even a little higher than that.
02:16Again, of course, Scotland, Northern Ireland, 9, 10 Celsius,
02:19but as I said, it will at least be a sunnier day here.
02:22During Wednesday evening, that rain likely to still be around,
02:25dragging its heels before shifting out into the North Sea.
02:29So, as I said, parts of eastern England are having a really quite wet day on Wednesday.
02:34Clearer skies following and a touch of frost
02:36and also high pressure eventually following that weather system.
02:40There will be a few showers on Thursday across the north
02:43from that weather front moving in,
02:44but here comes a chunky area of high pressure that's likely to sit around through Friday
02:49and into the weekend, keeping things largely dry.
02:52Now, there will be a brisk breeze developing on the south coast
02:55and across the northwest of Scotland, so it will be windy at times,
02:58but that high pressure should bring many of us to say plenty more sunshine
03:02through Friday and into the weekend as well.
03:05Plenty more details on all of that, of course, if you follow us across social media.
