00:00Hello there, it's been a windy one through this Monday across the UK. The winds are beginning
00:05to ease over the next few hours, but it is set to turn much colder through the next 12
00:10to 24 hours. That's because we've got this cold front pushing its way down towards the
00:14southeast, but it's opening those floodgates to those northerly winds coming down from
00:18the Arctic. So it is set to turn a lot colder through the next few days or so.
00:25As we head through this evening, we've still got that cold front to push its way through,
00:29some heavy rain for a time through much of central and eastern England. There's a secondary
00:33band then following on behind, and it's behind this that we see the really cold air digging
00:38in. So the risk of some of this turning wintry over the hills for a time. Elsewhere, with
00:42clearing skies, a widespread frost and some ice developing where we've seen those damp
00:47surfaces through the day. Snow showers continuing to affect Scotland around the north and the
00:52west. So as we start our day on Tuesday, it's going to be a cold start to the day for many
00:58places, particularly across the northern two thirds of the UK, where we've got those sunny
01:02skies and that frost and ice on the ground. We continue to see the wintry showers affecting
01:07many northern and western areas, but the rain across the south soon clears to give a much
01:11brighter day here, a different feeling day entirely. But through the afternoon, we will
01:16see another more organised area of showers pushing their way into Wales, central parts
01:20of England, northern England as well. And these will give the risk again of some winteriness
01:25up over, say, 100 to 200 metres or so. Much colder day across the country, as I say, feeling
01:31colder than that in the wind. This is the wind chill factor pushing its way through
01:36on Tuesday. It's going to be a bitterly cold day. Those temperatures are going to be feeling
01:41even colder than what the values on the thermometer say. So here, these are the temperatures it
01:46will feel like, feeling sub zero in some parts of the country. So a cold day on Tuesday and
01:52a cold night to follow. We will continue to see this area of rain, sleet and snow pushing
01:56away towards the southeast. Behind that then, the winds ease much more quickly and with
02:02clearing skies, again a widespread frost to come. You can see the blue really exploding
02:06on the map there. Temperatures in our towns and cities falling to freezing or just below.
02:11Out in the countryside, it will be several degrees lower than this. So you'll need those
02:16ice scrapers first thing on Wednesday morning. And we continue to see snow showers affecting
02:22northern parts of Scotland. So for Wednesday morning, a bright start to the day for most
02:27of us, a very cold one at that. And as I say, the scrapers will be needed. Best of the sunshine
02:33through Wednesday remains across eastern and northern parts of the UK, where we'll see
02:37mostly sunny skies through much of the day. But out towards the west, all change again.
02:42We've got cloud and rain spilling its way in. And with that, we'll see the potential
02:48for some snow on the leading edge, perhaps more so for the hills of Northern Ireland
02:51and for Snowdonia as well. A windier afternoon as well through the southwest approaches.
02:58We'll see quite strong gusts developing around the islands and coasts here. And that sets
03:03us up for a change in the weather as we go through the second half of the week. Things
03:08will start to turn a bit milder as well. And you can already see that Truro there coming
03:12in at 11 degrees through Wednesday afternoon. As we push on then into the outlook, as I
03:18say, things are turning more mild across the country. For most places, still the risk of
03:23some snow across the very far north of Scotland and staying fairly unsettled as well. You
03:27can find out all the latest across our plethora of social media channels. And I'll see you
03:32soon. Take care for now.
