00:00Hello, and welcome to the latest national weather from the Met Office.
00:04Widespread sunshine returns later this week, but for the rest of Wednesday it's widespread
00:09wet weather as a number of weather fronts move in and come together, providing a focus
00:14for some heavy and persistent rain, particularly around this area of weather fronts, which
00:19are developing across southern and then eventually central and eastern parts of England.
00:24But it's widely cloudy, outbreaks of rain affecting eastern and southern Scotland into
00:29east Wales and much of England. You can see where the heaviest rain is, the brighter colours
00:33there on the map, and it's going to feel unpleasant despite temperatures in this area technically
00:39being slightly higher than further west, where brighter skies break out later in the day
00:44for western Scotland and Northern Ireland, albeit with a few showers. Also some glimmers
00:48of sunshine there into west Wales and eventually the south-west just before the sun goes down.
00:55The rain hangs on for a time into eastern England through the evening, but eventually
00:58after midnight most places are clear of it. And then with widespread clear skies and
01:03lighter winds, temperatures falling away, a few fog patches possible in places by dawn
01:09and a touch of frost with temperatures at or around zero for the start of Thursday.
01:16But already by this stage the skies are turning cloudy across Northern Ireland and western
01:20Scotland and the first of a number of showery outbreaks of rain move in. For Scotland, Northern
01:26Ireland and then by the middle of the morning, Northern England and north Wales, it's generally
01:31cloudy with showers or longer spells of rain moving through and a blustery breeze in the
01:36north-west. It will turn colder with that breeze, with those showers falling as sleet
01:41or snow over hills and hail at all levels. But further south, milder air and plenty of
01:49sunshine there for central, southern and south-east England with temperatures of 14 to 16 Celsius,
01:55a vastly improved day compared to Wednesday's wet weather. Into Thursday evening and the
02:02areas of cloud or showers, mostly confined to northern areas, generally peter out away
02:07from the far north-west and then again clear spells will lead to a touch of frost for the
02:12start of Friday. But Friday, as well as the weekend, bring with them plenty of blue skies
02:19and sunshine.
