00:00Welcome to your national weather update from the Met Office. For many it's a fine
00:04bright day out there but it is another cold one and there are a few showers
00:08around as we can see from the view from space. Four areas really, one clipping the
00:13far southwest, one clipping the far southeast. Showers drifting in from the
00:17North Sea across North East England and this zone of cloudier weather bringing
00:22some hill snow to Western Scotland and later on some rain to Northern Ireland.
00:26The showers will keep filtering into North East England, maybe down into
00:30parts of the Midlands. A mixture of rain, sleet, hail and snow in those showers but
00:35the wintry showers easing away from Kent and from Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
00:41Generally elsewhere a lot of fine bright sunny weather. There is still a brisk and
00:46cold wind blowing across East Anglia and the southeast. Elsewhere the winds not as
00:51strong as yesterday but it is still chilly. Temperatures struggling to get
00:55maybe to double figures in the sunny spells across the south. Add on that wind
00:59and it feels particularly across the east much, much colder, much closer to
01:03freezing. Although as I said those winds not quite as strong, quite as biting as
01:08they were yesterday. Through this evening this area of wet weather will push into
01:12southwest Scotland through Northern Ireland into Wales, maybe northwest
01:17England. Particularly for Wales we will see some more snow mixed in with that
01:20even down to lower levels. We'll keep some showers going over North East
01:25England so we do have a Met Office yellow warning in place from Northumberland
01:28down to Lincolnshire. Could be icy here as those showers keep going. Elsewhere a
01:33lot of dry fine weather but a lot of blue on the map because it is going to
01:37be cold. If you're heading out this evening be prepared for those
01:40temperatures to plummet and by the time we get to Saturday morning widely a
01:44couple of degrees below freezing even in towns and cities. Some rural spots well
01:50below where there's snow lying on the ground in Scotland we could see another
01:53minus seven or minus eight. Perhaps not quite that cold across Wales and
01:57southwest England hovering around freezing here because there'll be more
02:00cloud and that will be around on Saturday morning bringing some showers.
02:04And again a mixture here of rain and some sleet and snow even to lower levels
02:09in those showers for a time before turning back to rain through the day and
02:13tending to ease away. And then further east we will again see a sprinkling of
02:17showers coming into eastern England's maybe East Anglia the southeast parts
02:21of the Midlands and again don't be surprised we don't see a few flakes of
02:24snow or the odd hail shower mixed in with those. But again between the showers
02:29plenty of sunny spells and basically a dry fine day for Scotland and Northern
02:33Ireland. The winds lighter again on Saturday so although it is still cold
02:38temperatures still below the average for the time of year. Again perhaps not
02:41feeling quite so bitter although still pretty brisk breezes bringing a real
02:46chill across parts of Kent. Again on Saturday evening bear this in mind if
02:51you're heading out temperatures dropping sharply again when we keep any showers
02:54going there is the potential for things to turn icy as temperatures drop widely
02:59again below freezing. So cold starts to Sunday we are starting to see a change
03:04during Sunday. For most of England and Wales it's a chilly dry bright day with
03:08fairly light winds. For Scotland and Northern Ireland increasing cloud and
03:11some wet weather pushing into Northern Ireland especially during the afternoon.
03:15That is going to be from a warm front which will slowly head in and drift its
03:20way southwards. But it is a warm front so the cold air still in place to start
03:25Sunday but notice this warm front will introduce milder air as we go through
03:30Sunday and into the early part of next week. Temperatures will be finally
03:35picking up once more. More details on all of that and make sure you follow the
03:39Met Office across social media to stay updated throughout the weekend.
