00:00Happy first day of meteorological winter for many, a day of sparkling winter sunshine.
00:06But for a few, we do have some wintry flurries around, a little bit of rain, a little bit of sleet,
00:11a little bit of snow mixed in with these showers that are spread around the edges of the country,
00:16as you can see on the radar here.
00:17Some snow showers have been moving into parts of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire,
00:20a mixture of sleet and snow in the showers across Suffolk, Essex and Kent as well.
00:26The showers across Northern Ireland, mostly of rain, but some snow over the hills.
00:29And we'll continue to see these showers around the edges of the country through the rest of today.
00:34Inland, we've seen some mist and fog, quite a grey start over the Midlands and southeast England.
00:40That should generally clear away to reveal a bit of blue sky and a bit of sunshine.
00:44But where we've still got the showers, there's always the potential for things to be a little icy.
00:48Temperatures are struggling to get much above freezing, two or three degrees for most places.
00:54That's cold even for the start of meteorological winter.
00:58And pretty quickly this evening, temperatures will drop back down below freezing.
01:01So, again, the potential for some icy conditions.
01:04Well, we've got these showers coming in across eastern England, a mixture of rain, sleet and some snow.
01:10Showers coming into southwest Scotland.
01:13Again, mostly rain here, but some hill snow is possible.
01:16And the showers also continuing over the far north of Scotland.
01:19So, again, could turn icy as temperatures tumble.
01:22And across central parts of England, some thick fog likely to form pretty quickly through this evening,
01:28which will be slow to clear tomorrow as well.
01:30Freezing fog as temperatures widely fall below zero, minus two, minus three,
01:35even in towns and cities and some urban areas further north, minus four or minus five.
01:40So, a cold start to the weekend.
01:42Just a reminder of those weather warnings for snow and ice that we have in place down the eastern side into southwest Scotland
01:49and across northern parts of Scotland as well.
01:52So, potentially pretty slippery on the roads on Saturday morning.
01:54Another hazard could be that fog, which will be slow to clear over some parts of the Midlands, maybe southeast England too.
02:02A few more showers drifting into southwest Scotland, northwest England and Wales and southwest England as well.
02:08Pretty well scattered, but most of these showers will again be of rain at low levels, but some snow over the hills.
02:15The odd shower keeping going across the far north, but the showers in the east will drift away.
02:19So, much of eastern England having a dry and a sunny afternoon and again, quite a few places just having blue sky,
02:25but that's going to struggle to impact the temperatures so much with really struggling values, one or two degrees,
02:31particularly if that fog is slow to clear.
02:34But notice later in the day around these western coast temperatures could be up to six or seven,
02:38just hints of something milder trying to push in here.
02:42And we'll continue with that as we go through Saturday evening.
02:45So, the cloud thickening in the southwest.
02:47We'll see a little bit more in the way of rain with some hill snow coming into south Wales and southwest England.
02:52That's all tied into a couple of weather fronts ahead of this area of low pressure.
02:57Some uncertainty about the timing and that will be crucial for how much if any snow we see,
03:02but they could provide a little bit as we go through Saturday night and into Sunday,
03:06maybe other parts of the Midlands, Wales, even southern England.
03:09Again, mostly rain, but some snow possible over the hills.
03:13Across the north, again, a frosty start to Sunday, but for many, it'll be a dry and a fine day.
03:18But a murky day across the south as we see some outbreaks of rain, drizzle and a bit of hill snow moving into the south and southwest.
03:26As temperatures start to creep up here by the time we get to Sunday, more widely in the south, six or seven degrees.
03:32But most places, again, struggling at just two or three degrees Celsius.
03:37So, plenty going on with the weather over the next few days.
03:40Do keep up to date yourself.
