00:00Hello, and welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:03Some of us will continue to see temperatures rising as we go into Friday, getting to highs
00:08in the mid-30s.
00:09That's because of this area of high pressure that's bringing lots of fine, sunny weather
00:13and also dragging in hot air from the south.
00:16But notice this cold front that's sweeping in from the northwest.
00:19This will bring some clouds, some rain, and also cooler air feeding in behind.
00:24Taking a closer look through Thursday evening and overnight, and we've got rain sweeping
00:28across parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland, heaviest in the west, and here it will be
00:32windy too.
00:33Elsewhere, across much of England and Wales, it's looking like a largely dry night with
00:37some clear skies, but notice temperatures.
00:40It is going to be a warm night, a difficult night for sleeping for many of us.
00:44In fact, some towns and cities may stay above 20 Celsius, making it a tropical night.
00:50As we look towards Friday then, a wet start across many parts of Scotland and Northern
00:54Ireland.
00:55The rain's still heaviest in the west and still windy too.
00:58The rain will gradually ease as it makes its way slowly south and eastwards.
01:02So notice across parts of Northern England, whilst it will be a fine start today, the
01:06rain is going to arrive here later.
01:09Elsewhere across the bulk of England and Wales though, lots of hot sunshine to be had.
01:14Temperatures getting to highs of around 34 or 35 Celsius towards the southeast.
01:18That will make it the hottest day of the year so far, and in fact, the hottest day since
01:232020.
01:24Notice that the heat is going to be fairly widespread across much of England.
01:28Temperatures in the low 30s could spread as far north as Yorkshire and as far west as
01:32Devon.
01:33As well as that, UV levels will be very high, so do take care if you are out in the sunshine
01:37for any prolonged periods of time.
01:40As we go through the end of the day on Friday, this front bringing cloud and rain across
01:43northern parts of England will gradually make its way southwards, pushing into Wales and
01:47more central parts by the end of the night.
01:50Further north across Scotland, plenty of showers feeding their way in, and it is going to be
01:54windy here too.
01:55In the north it will be a little bit cooler than it has been over some recent nights,
01:58but notice in the south temperatures still holding up, so again we could see some places
02:03staying above 20 Celsius.
02:05Through Saturday we are going to see quite a cloudy picture across parts of central and
02:10southern England and Wales.
02:11Here outbreaks of rain developing could turn heavy, perhaps even thundery as we head through
02:15the afternoon.
02:16Further north for northern England, lots of fine sunny weather here, but across Scotland
02:20and Northern Ireland here plenty of showers and staying windy, unseasonably so with the
02:25risk of coastal gales.
02:27Temperatures for many are going to be quite a bit down compared to Friday, but in the
02:31south east holding on to that hot weather for just that little bit longer could get
02:35into the high 20s here.
02:37Whatever you are up to, make sure you keep up to date with the full forecast on both
02:41the Met Office website, app and of course our social media channels.
