00:00Venezuela's state authorities rejected the recent imposition of unilateral coercive measures
00:15by the United States as an attempt against the country's peace and sovereignty.
00:22In Colombia, President Gustavo Petro denounced that a coup d'etat is being prepared against
00:26his government.
00:31And the first troops from Jamaica and Belize for the multinational security support mission
00:35arrived in Port-au-Prince on Thursday and on Friday to join the 400 agents from Kenya
00:41who are already in Haiti.
00:48Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra García from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:52We begin with the news.
00:54In Venezuela, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ivan Gil, summoned the Ambassador of Spain
00:59in the country, Ramón Santos, to express the government's firm stance in the face
01:03of any interference.
01:04During an official communiqué, Gil assured, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Ambassador
01:10Santos to express the strong position of the Venezuelan government, which will not allow
01:14any interference by the government of Spain in matters that are the exclusive competence
01:20of Venezuelan men and women.
01:22The Venezuelan government will adopt the necessary measures within the framework of
01:26international law and the Bolivarian diplomacy of peace to protect its sovereignty.
01:36The Bolivarian National Armed Forces of Venezuela rejected the recent imposition of unilateral
01:41coercive measures by the United States on high-ranking Venezuelan officials.
01:45In response to the recent coercive measures, the Minister of Defense warned that the Bolivarian
01:50Armed Forces are unbreakable and will continue defending the democracy in Venezuela.
01:56In this sense, Padrino López asserted that the members of the Ministry will remain faithful
02:00to the Venezuelan sovereignty.
02:02The Defense Minister assured that the agents of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces have
02:07no price and will remain united and on alert to defend their sovereignty.
02:18The Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela rejected the sanctions imposed against national
02:23government officials by the United States.
02:26On Friday, Washington sanctioned 16 officials, among them five magistrates of the Supreme
02:30Court and directors of the National Electoral Council, for allegedly obstructing the presidential
02:37voting process of July 28.
02:39In response, the President of the Supreme Court of Justice, Carizia Rodríguez, pointed
02:43out that this practice collides with the accepted principles of international law on self-determination
02:50and democracy.
02:51Furthermore, the TSG president reaffirmed that the entity has always been a promoter
02:57of peace in the country, whose decisions have been backed by the national legal system in
03:02order to warranty the tranquility of the nation.
03:09The President of the Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela, Carizia Beatriz Rodríguez,
03:13offered statements in rejection of the sanctions imposed by the Office of Foreign Assets Control
03:18of the U.S. Treasury Department against Venezuelan individuals.
03:25The Supreme Court of Justice of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, on behalf of the entire
03:30judiciary, once again repudiates the interfering action of the United States of America in
03:37the internal affairs of the republic by imposing unilateral and illegitimate and illegal coercive
03:47measures on 16 Venezuelan officials, among which are the magistrates Carizia Beatriz
03:54Rodríguez Rodríguez, Fanny Beatriz Márquez Cordero, Inocencio Antonio Figueroa, Malakia
04:00Gil Rodríguez, and Juan Carlos Hidalgo Pandare, as well as Judge Eduard Miguel Bristeño Cisneros.
04:10Furthermore, the head of the Venezuelan judiciary expressed her solidarity with the national
04:16public powers in the face of the imperial onslaught of the United States government.
04:21For this reason, the words of our libertador, Simón Bolívar, seem fitting, and I quote
04:29quote, the United States seemed destined by providence to flag America with miseries in the name of freedom, end of quote.
04:44Likewise, the judiciary expresses its solidarity with the other national public powers that
04:50today have been attacked and insulted by the imperial onslaught, ratifying its commitment
05:00to peace, serenity, and independence of our beloved Venezuela.
05:07The National Electoral Council of Venezuela, CNE, issued a statement to repudiate the act
05:12of interference committed by the government of the United States of America as it tries
05:17to point out and intimidate a group of Venezuelan public servants through illegal unilateral
05:23coercive measures.
05:24According to the statement, the electoral power of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela
05:28repudiates the infamous act of interference committed by the government of the United
05:33States of America with which it is trying to point out and intimidate a group of Venezuelan
05:38public servants through illegal unilateral coercive measures promoted by criminal groups
05:44linked to terrorism, drug trafficking, and other crimes who have allied with you and
05:49other corrupt structures to finance operations against the Venezuelan electoral system and
05:53its members.
05:54Later on, the electoral authority stated that the United States of America has one of the
06:00most pathetic and obsolete electoral systems on the planet.
06:04For this reason, the U.S. government lacks the moral authority to evaluate and give its
06:09opinion on electoral issues, much less in Venezuela where there is an electoral system
06:14with the highest global standards.
06:16Attempting to blackmail the members of the National Electoral Council is a crude maneuver
06:21that has failed before.
06:23No illegal sanction against the institution has distanced it from its constitutional mandate.
06:29The Venezuelan electoral power is today firm, united, and stronger than ever.
06:33Finally, the communique ended by demanding that the government of the United States not
06:38to get involved in the internal affairs of the Venezuelan electoral power, and we urged
06:43to dedicate itself to attend the internal affairs of its country, and ended by reminding
06:49that Venezuela is a sovereign country that only obeys the will of the people of the Bolivarian
06:54Republic of Venezuela.
07:03The National Assembly of Venezuela condemned and rejected, through an official statement,
07:07the unilateral and coercive measures announced against Venezuelan individuals by the U.S.
07:12government.
07:13According to the statement, the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela condemns
07:18and rejects in the strongest terms the continuous and permanent aggression by the supremacist
07:23government of the United States of America, this time by imposing unilateral coercive
07:28measures against dignified and courageous Venezuelan public servants, such as the first
07:33Vice President of the National Assembly, Deputy Pedro Infante.
07:37It follows by stating, we express our deep solidarity with the decent Venezuelans who
07:42were attacked by this new and illegitimate action of the imperialist hegemony against
07:48our homeland and our institutions, and we tell the decadent United States of America
07:53empire and its European satellites that no unilateral coercive measures will stop the
07:58libertarian and independent path of the Venezuelan people that they have chosen.
08:04The communiqué closes by declaring that the National Assembly demands full respect
08:09for the institutionalism of the country, and we reiterate before the world that more than
08:14two hundred years ago we ceased to be a colony thanks to the will and struggle of our people,
08:20and therefore do not accept nor will accept the interference of foreign powers in our
08:24internal affairs nor any neocolonial subordination.
08:35On Friday, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our America's People's Strait
08:41Treaty, ALBA-TCP, released a statement condemning the new unilateral coercive measures imposed
08:47by the U.S. government on Venezuelan citizens.
08:50According to the communiqué, the member states of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples
08:54of our America's People's Strait Treaty, ALBA-TCP, categorically reject the new imposition
08:59of unilateral coercive measures by the government of the United States and Venezuelan nationals.
09:05It follows today Venezuela has 16 nationals unilaterally sanctioned for the simple fact
09:11of fulfilling their duties and basically for being Venezuelans and not acting to benefit
09:16a Venezuelan political sector, which is well known for being extremist and fascist and
09:21has always claimed to be in favor of interventionism and the violation of international law rather
09:27than assuming its defeat.
09:29The statement emphasizes these measures not only attack the 16 sanctioned individuals,
09:35this criminal and illegal practice of the U.S. government against states that do not
09:40work in favor of its interests, alters the economic and political stability of this country
09:46and the entire region.
09:47Finally, the communiqué states, ALBA-TCP strongly repudiates this new attack against
09:53public officials, their human and civil rights and the Venezuelan nation in general, which
09:58threatens the peace and tranquility of all Latin America and the Caribbean and calls
10:03on regional governments to reject this measure and to promote diplomacy and respect for the
10:08self-determination of the peoples, and closes by emphasizing that the Bolivarian alliance
10:14demands respect for the sovereignty of the free peoples of our America and the Caribbean
10:19and reaffirms its unrestricted support and solidarity with the people and government
10:24of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

10:50Army General and leader of the Cuban Revolution Raul Castro and Cuba's President Miguel Díaz-Canel
10:55sent Friday their congratulations to Nicaragua's President and Vice President Daniel Ortega
11:00and Rosario Murillo, respectively, on occasion of the 203rd anniversary of Nicaragua's independence
11:06from the Spanish colonialism.
11:08The message was sent in an official letter where the Cuban leaders said that the independence
11:12of the sister nation opened a long road of struggles by the Nicaraguan people, which
11:17was consolidated with the Sandinista revolution.
11:20Castro and Díaz-Canel also expressed their all-out support and solidarity to the Sandinista
11:25revolution and affirmed their conviction that the Nicaraguan people will continue advancing
11:30towards Latin American unity.
11:38In Colombia, President Gustavo Petro denounced that a coup d'etat is being plotted against
11:42his government.
11:44The President noted that the allegations against him are a reflection of a coup d'etat that
11:48is being plotted by illegitimate administrative entities.
11:52Petro has been accused of allegedly having surpassed the expenditure ceilings in the
11:57electoral campaign that led him to office.
12:00Petro stated that the target of such claim is to remove him from power by means of assassination
12:06or political destitution in the next three months and replace him with the President
12:11of the Senate Efrain Zepeda.
12:14In this way, he denounced that there are economic interests to produce a political process of
12:18destitution of the legitimate President of the country.
12:31The coup d'etat is not the generals of the police and the army looking for a way to take
12:36the palace and remove the President.
12:39No, the oligarchs of this country are not so naive.
12:44It is a Colombian-style coup d'etat.
12:47First, they disqualify the President that the Constitution protected.
12:54Over the Constitution there is already a coup d'etat.
12:58The President's immunity was granted to prevent any administrative instance from judging him.
13:05Even today, I am being judged by an illegitimate administrative instance.
13:24Brazilian authorities in Manaus, capital of the state of Amazonas, declared an emergency
13:29situation due to the drought affecting the Negro River and are implementing countermeasures.
13:34The state of emergency begins on Monday, September 16, with the first phase of Operation Drought

13:50At least 7,700 families will benefit, corresponding to almost 25,000 people from 93 riverside
13:56communities in the capital.
14:02In Vietnam, rescue teams found alive 123 people who had gone missing after Typhoon Jagi hit
14:09the northern region.
14:10Authorities reported that 115 residents of Co Vang village fled in the middle of the
14:16night into the mountains as they had detected signs of an imminent landslide, which would
14:21eventually bury several houses in their area.
14:24Thus, they had been registered as missing for several days until rescue teams found
14:28them after an intensive search.
14:31Hours later, eight more survivors were located in Nu village, where a landslide destroyed
14:3637 homes.
14:37As of Friday, the death toll from the aftermath of Typhoon Jagi has reached 233, while 103
14:45are still missing.

15:16Welcome back to From the South.
15:18Panama recognizes relatives of the January 9th martyrs, 60 years after the heroic deed
15:24in which students from the National Institute crossed the fence that divided the US-dominated
15:29canal enclave from the rest of the country.
15:31There are conflicting opinions.
15:33Our colleague Reka Chandiramani tells us about it.
15:40The government of Panama began to pay an annuity to the relatives of the martyrs and survivors
15:45of the January 9th, 1964 heroic deed, which left 22 Panamanians dead after the struggle
15:52to plant the Panamanian flag at the Balboa School in the former canal zone, which was
15:57controlled until 1999 by the United States.
16:04In part we see the positive point to those who really deserve it, but another part is
16:09the way to clean the image of the governments that did not fulfill the obligation to solve
16:14the fact of those boys, because today many have already disappeared, and supposedly it
16:20would be those who did not participate who would have benefits, which gives a positive
16:25and negative balance.
16:28On that day began the heroic deed that lasted several days, when the US military forces
16:33stationed in the canal zone repressed the students of the National Institute who jumped
16:38over the fence of the enclave to demand compliance with the treaty in force and the raising of
16:43the Panamanian flag together with the American flag in the canal zone.
16:47Most of the martyrs were students of the National Institute, the so-called Eagle's Nest.
16:59What did the government do, years later, so that there would be no way to remember those
17:04events?
17:05They came and changed the school year, and then they began to end it in December, so
17:11that on January 9th there were no students in the classrooms and there was no seed, all
17:18that to eliminate the historical memory.
17:22We also see later that there was the share of relations between Panama and the United
17:28States.
17:29A lady who is from Cologne, by the way, and is currently the Minister of Education again,
17:37said that the problems that existed with the United States had already passed and that
17:42this chair should be eliminated.
17:45There is a systematic approach to eliminate the anti-imperialist struggle of our people.
17:58This date is considered by social fighters as the true date of the recovery of sovereignty,
18:03which materialized on December 31st, 1999 with the transfer of the canal into the hands
18:09of the Panamanian government.
18:11This economic recognition by the state to the Panamanian martyrs comes 60 years late
18:16and leaves a bittersweet taste to many, especially to the victims of the invasion, who 25 years
18:23after this gesture, return to feel the US military power without the Panamanian state
18:28has been able to cipher, much less to recover the bodies of all the dead.
18:40The first troops from Jamaica and Belize for the multinational security support MSS mission
18:45arrived in Port-au-Prince on Thursday and on Friday to join the 400 agents from Kenya
18:51who are already in Haiti.
18:53On the Jamaican side, a contingent of 20 military and four police officers arrived at the Toussaint
18:58Louverture International Airport in the Haitian capital on Thursday, as the country is committed
19:04to support the MSS mission.
19:07Meanwhile, two Belizean soldiers were welcomed on Friday in Haiti on behalf of the goodwill
19:12of their government.
19:13Also, it is expected another 2,500 military and police officers to back the MSS up in
19:20the near future.
19:21MSS commander Godfrey Ontage was grateful for the aid received.
19:47In Palestine, the Israeli genocidal army committed a new war crime by attacking the
19:51al-Mawassi humanitarian areas south of the Gaza Strip, killing dozens of Palestinian
19:56civilians.
19:57In an Israeli incursion into an apartment in the al-Mawassi area, claimed at least five
20:02lives and a family, including two children.
20:05In addition, seven Gazans couldn't survive the bombings dropped on the refugee camp on
20:09Nusayrat and the southern city of Rafah.
20:13In these contacts on Friday, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees
20:18in the Near East, UNRWA, denounced that airstrikes killed 18 Palestinians at the Joni School
20:24on Wednesday evening, as the place had been working as a polio vaccination center for
20:29the past week.
20:35Hundreds of Palestinians bid farewell to the remains of five people killed by the Israeli
20:39army in two busts in the occupied West Bank.
20:43This way, relatives and residents of the murdered young men mourned their lives in a funeral
20:48ceremony held on Friday.
20:50The victims died two days ago during an Israeli drone attack.
20:54The occupation army withdrew on Thursday evening from the towns of Tulkarem and Tubas and nearby
21:00refugee camps, after having besieged both neighborhoods for several days.
21:05These aggressions are part of a wider Israeli offensive that has been going on for weeks
21:10in the occupied Palestinian territory and which has claimed at least 50 lives.
21:19The government of Cuba offered 200 scholarships for Palestinian students to complete undergraduate
21:25and graduate education on the island in the coming years.
21:28The announcement was made on Wednesday afternoon, when Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez
21:33received the ambassador of the State of Palestine, Dr. Akram Mohamed Shamhan, who ended his diplomatic
21:40mission in the Caribbean nation.
21:42The Palestinian diplomat thanked the Cuban president for the support of his country's
21:46students whom Cuba had been protecting and supporting.
21:50Currently, 250 students from Palestine are studying in the Caribbean island, pursuing
21:55undergraduate and postgraduate studies in different higher education centers.
