00:13Antonio Guterres to denounce the aggravation his country has faced, encouraged by the United
00:17States.
00:21In Mexico, several leaders of Latin American countries started arriving to attend the inauguration
00:25of the President-elect, Claudio Champón.
00:32And in Lebanon, authorities report at least 109 dead and 364 wounded after the recent
00:36attack by Israeli troops in Beirut, while the number of displaced persons could exceed
00:411 million.
00:50Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisu Studios in
00:54Havana, Cuba.
00:55We begin with the news.
00:56Venezuela's Minister of Foreign Affairs Iván Gil met with the Secretary General of the
01:00United Nations Antonio Guterres to denounce the aggravation his country has faced, encouraged
01:04by the United States.
01:05The meeting took place in the silence of the activities of the 79th Session of the UN General
01:09Assembly taking place in New York.
01:12The head of the Bolivarian Diplomacy attending the meeting exposed to the Secretary General
01:16the serious and multiple violations that have been perpetrated against Venezuela under the
01:20protection of the United States.
01:22Likewise, the foreign minister ratified the commitment of the Venezuelan people and government
01:26to peace and respect for international law.
01:35President Maduro reaffirmed the determination of the Venezuelan government to stand by its
01:39people to protect them, in contrast with other political leaders who have preferred to protect
01:43themselves and their families.
01:49Two months, 60 days, and here we are standing, on the street, with the victorious people,
02:03and moving towards more revolution, towards more homeland.
02:14We are not in Madrid.
02:16We are not in a corner.
02:17We are on the street, in La Guaira.
02:24And in other news, the President of Honduras, Yamara Castro, officially arrived in Mexico
02:28to attend the inauguration of the President-elect, Claudio Chimbaun, which will take place on
02:32October 1st.
02:33According to local media, the Honduran President was received by the authorities and the National
02:36Army at the Benito Juárez International Airport, located in the capital city of Mexico, after
02:41traveling on a commercial flight from Tegucigalpa.
02:44This, as part of the arrival of high-ranking international officials to the Felipe Ángeles
02:48International Airport to witness the inauguration, is important to point out that the Foreign
02:52Affairs Minister of Honduras, Enrique Reyna, announced that the President, Yamara Castro,
02:56plans to meet with the elected Mexican President to discuss cooperation ties between both countries.
03:03Well, for now I think it will be, as is logical, the greetings she will make and the meetings
03:10she may have with President López Obrador and the presidential agenda with the new President
03:15of Mexico. And well, we will see if in this space there is any other space for conversation.
03:24Definitely, as I repeat, the intention is to strengthen even more the ties, not only
03:31of friendship that have traditionally united us with Mexico, but to take this relationship
03:36a little further from the point of view of trade, to strengthen our commercial relations
03:40and above all of cooperation between both countries.
03:46Also the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, arrived in Mexico City to participate in the
03:50inauguration of Flotilla Chimbao. The President was received at the Felipe Ángeles International
03:54Airport by Dr. David Kirshenobrovich, who will assume the post of Secretary of Health
04:00in the incoming government. Likewise, the Cuban national leader is expected to hold
04:04several meetings in the Mexican nation, accompanied by his Cuban delegation, formed by the Foreign
04:08Affairs Minister Bruno Rodríguez, Emilio Lozada, Eugenio Martínez and Ambassador Marcos Rodríguez-Costa.
04:18In the same context, the President of the Third Republic of Brazil, Luis Ignacio Da Silva,
04:23arrived in Mexico City to attend the inauguration of President-elect Claudio Chimbao. The Brazilian
04:27President was received by an entourage of the Mexican government, headed by Lázaro
04:31Cárdenas-Batel, future head of the Office of the Presidency. In this sense, the Brazilian
04:36President will begin his official agenda on Monday, with a private meeting with Chimbao
04:40to discuss various topics.
04:47And in Mexico, Claudio Chimbao is hours away from taking office as the country's first
04:51woman President. In this context, citizens gave their opinion on the three main challenges
04:56she will have to face. Let's see the details with our correspondent, Antonio Aranda.
05:01On October 1st, Claudia Chimbao takes office as Mexico's first female President and among
05:07the population there are positive expectations about her arrival, one of which is the reinforcement
05:12of the national security strategy.
05:17We are going to do well with her. She is the first woman President. We have hope that there
05:22will be more security.
05:27I come from the state of Mexico and there are many assaults and as a woman I feel there
05:32is a lot of violence against women.
05:38In this regard, Claudia Chimbao has mentioned that the recent incorporation of the National
05:43Guard into the Ministry of Defense will contribute to reducing the levels of violence without
05:48militarizing the country.
05:53Militarization means that there is a military command that is making decisions and the decisions
06:00are made by the commander of the armed forces. It is a civilian power.
06:09Another issue that Mexicans see as an immediate challenge is to keep the economy in the positive
06:14numbers.
06:17I believe that certain changes should be made gradually as the previous government had done.
06:22Decisions are not done in six years, but if they give continuity as they mentioned,
06:27it seems to me that everything would go well. Besides, the economy is working with the support
06:33they have given.
06:39Chimbao has expressed confidence in the strengths of the Mexican economy left by her predecessor
06:44thanks to public works, private investment and social programs.
06:51There are enormous strengths of our economy that allow us to maintain the domestic market
06:55strengthened by public works, private investment, welfare programs and salary increases, even
07:08if there are changes in the exchange rate against the dollar.
07:16On political and international issues, citizens expect the future president to maintain a
07:21firm stance towards the U.S. government.
07:26The figure of authority as president should be firm. Regardless of the role that the U.S.
07:34government plays as part of being a strategic ally together with Mexico and Canada, I think
07:43the position should remain firm.
07:48On relations with the U.S., Chimbao assures that if Donald Trump wins the presidency,
07:53she will work with him for the integration of the two nations.
07:59I believe that it is responsible on our part and furthermore it is established in the Constitution,
08:04the self-determination of peoples and beyond a personal opinion. I believe that particularly
08:09in a relationship as important as the one we have with the United States, we must have
08:13respect for who the people of the United States decide and always defend Mexico and
08:19not allow Mexico to be used as the central element of the campaign.
08:31She will also have to tackle the implementation of a national citizen system, maintain public
08:36investment in large projects and expand the beneficiary base of social programs, without
08:41increasing public debt. Analysts believe that one of the greatest political challenges
08:47that Claudia Chimbao will have to face will be to convince citizens that she is not subject
08:52to López Obrador and to put her own stamp on taking the reins of government.

09:10stay with us.
09:30Welcome back. On Monday, Hezbollah assured that as in 2006 they will defeat Israel and
09:35their plans remain unshakable. The Deputy Secretary General of the organization, Naim
09:39Kassem, denied the Israeli narrative of the assassination of the Secretary General Hassan
09:42Nasrallah and accused the regime of murdering civilians, especially women, children and
09:48medical personnel throughout the territory. The leader recounted the combat activities
09:52they have maintained and confirmed that their militias are ready for a hand-to-hand battle
09:56if the Zionist troops enter into a land incursion.
10:02Meanwhile, also in Lebanon, authorities report at least 109 people killed and 364 wounded
10:09after the recent attack by Israeli troops in southwest and central Beirut. According
10:13to local media, the Lebanese authorities reported that the Tel Aviv regime's army orchestrated
10:18in the morning hours a systematic bombardment against a neighborhood in the city of Sidon,
10:24located southwest of Beirut, where at least 40 civilians were killed, while recently an
10:28Israeli aircraft entered Lebanese airspace and attacked for the first time the center
10:32of the Lebanese capital by bombing a residential building in the Al-Qhola district. So far,
10:37specialists are working in the search for survivors of the disaster and looking for
10:40the bodies of more victims in the area.
10:46The Palestinian Liberation Front also announced a killing of three of its members in the attack
10:50by the Israeli regime in the Al-Qhola area in central Beirut. In a statement, the Palestinian
10:55Liberation Front described the crime against the organization's members as an assassination
10:58operation carried out by Israeli drones. In bidding farewell to its leaders, the movement
11:03promised to all mothers of the Palestinian people and the Arab nation to continue fighting
11:08the crimes perpetrated by the Zionist occupation.
11:16In this regard, the Lebanese government warned that the number of displaced people as a consequence
11:20of the Israeli aggressions against the country could exceed one million. The Lebanese interim
11:25prime minister, Najib Mikadi, warned that about 778 shelters are hosting 118,000 citizens,
11:32while it is estimated that the number of displaced people could be higher. In this regard, the
11:35prime minister added that the state is fulfilling its duties to attend to the victims and to
11:39face the Israeli persecution. He also assured that his security forces will intensify their
11:43measures to protect shelters and displaced persons, with the aim of ensuring peace and
11:47security in the endangered areas.
11:54The number is very large and may have reached an estimated one million people. One million
11:59Lebanese have fled from one place to another. It is the largest movement of displaced people
12:03that could have occurred in a region or in Lebanon.
12:07Meanwhile in China, the foreign minister expressed his deep concern and rejection of the violations
12:12of Lebanon's sovereignty and security regarding the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan
12:16Nasrallah. Through a declaration, the foreign ministry informed its opposition and condemnation
12:21to all actions that harm innocent civilians and to any measure that aggravates the contradictions
12:27or leads to an escalation in the region. Likewise, the foreign ministry considered that the tense
12:31situation between Lebanon and Israel is an indirect manifestation of the conflict in
12:36the Gaza Strip. This comes after the Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi met recently at UN
12:40headquarters with his Lebanese counterpart, Abdallah Bou Khabib, and expressed Beijing's
12:45support for Lebanon's sovereignty, security and dignity.
12:54In Yemen, at least five people were reported dead and 45 wounded after the latest Israeli
12:58bombing of the city of Hodeidah. According to local media, Yemeni authorities warned
13:03that these attacks are an attempt of intimidation in order to put an end to the maritime blockade
13:07that the Houthis are carrying out in support of the Palestinian people. Likewise, the Yemeni
13:12army ratified its support to the people of the Gaza Strip and pointed out that it will
13:16maintain the blockade against Israeli-related vessels attempting to cross the Red Sea and
13:21the Gulf of Aden. It is important to note that during the bombardment by Israeli troops,
13:25the port, airport and a power station in the city of Hodeidah, located west of Yemen, were
13:29destroyed.
13:35In Iran, Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said that all Hezbollah commanders killed by the
13:39Israeli regime were replaced by a new figure. General Vahidi, former commander of the Quds
13:44Force, stressed that the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah has the necessary capabilities
13:49in terms of human resources to replace the commanders martyred by the offensive of the
13:52occupation forces. The also former Interior Minister indicated that the new generation
14:00of Hezbollah commanders has launched operations against the Zionist regime in response to
14:04the aggressive Israeli escalation against the Lebanese people.
14:08Regarding the successor to the martyred Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Sayed Hassan Nasrallah, the General
14:13assured that the Hezbollah movement has strong members who can lead it and continue the strategies
14:17of the late Secretary-General.

15:05Welcome back. In Nepal, authorities report at least 193 people dead and 31 others still
15:14missing after heavy rains. The Interior Ministry added that heavy rains caused major flooding
15:18in Kathmandu, the capital and the central and eastern parts of the country. Since Friday,
15:22several rivers overflowed their banks and authorities feared that the death toll could
15:26increase. Rescue and search efforts have been hindered by the large mud formations that
15:30prevent the brigades from operating. The country has not seen rain like this since
15:341970, while authorities recorded 242 mm of rain in just 24 hours in Kathmandu.
15:46And Hurricane Helene left more than 100 dead and around 600 missing in its path through
15:51the United States. So far, the states most affected by this cyclone have been North and
15:56South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and Virginia. In the most recent update from
16:01federal authorities released this Sunday night, the death toll has reached 107. The hurricane
16:05which reached category 4 has affected critical infrastructure in all the states, many of
16:10which are without electricity and water services, and a large part of the public roads are still
16:15disabled.
16:26Japan's iconic Shinkansen bullet train turned 60 years old on October 1st. To date, this
16:37service remains essential to the country's economy and way of life, so keeping it dustily
16:41clean, punctual and accident-free is a serious job. More details in the following material.
16:48The Shinkansen high-speed train celebrates its 60th anniversary this year since it began
16:52operating on the Tokyo-Osaka route in 1964. In its history, this service has evolved greatly,
16:59from a maximum speed of 210 km per hour at the beginning to 320 km per hour and carrying
17:051 million passengers today, all thanks to the technology developed in Japan. Today the
17:11service remains essential to the country's economy and way of life, so maintaining high-quality
17:16standards is a serious job.
17:20If you look at the way the economy developed during the 60s right the way through the 80s,
17:26look at the growth of cities along the lines, you can see the impact of the Shinkansen.
17:35High-speed Shinkansen trains began running between Tokyo and Osaka in 1964, heralding
17:40a new era for rail transport as Japan became an economic superpower following its defeat
17:45in World War II. Today, the high-speed Shinkansen trains are the fastest way to see Japan as
17:51the Japan Rail Network covers virtually the entire country. Moreover, there has never
17:56been an accident resulting in death or injury on the bullet train, even in a country where
18:01earthquakes, typhoons and heavy snowfall are common.
18:07We take great care in making sure that safety always comes first. No matter what our past
18:15achievements have been about maybe no fatalities, once one accident occurs and one incident
18:23occurs then our reputation as a company and our trust that we have gained from the customers
18:32may all disappear just in one moment.
18:37In addition, thanks to a meticulous maintenance program, staff in their impeccable uniform
18:42of white gloves and vest ensure that the trains are running smoothly and look shiny inside
18:46and out. These staff are intensively educated at a modern 10-story staff training center
18:52located southwest of Tokyo, where future conductors, engineers and other staff members prepare
18:58for their jobs at Japan Rail Central.
19:04Our human resources, our employees, we take our education and training of our employees
19:10very seriously and making sure that they both, they all share the same values that safety
19:17always comes first.
19:21Shinkansen trains have established themselves in their 60-year history as an efficient and
19:25reliable method of transportation and it is easy for Japanese people to take the forgotten
19:29Shinkansen, which is good, but when they travel abroad, they realize that what they
19:34have is something special.
19:38For most passengers, I think the priority is one, it's safe and two, it's reliable.
19:44And the Shinkansen is both of those. I mean, the average delay on the Tokaido Shinkansen
19:52is around about 0.3 minutes. So, I mean, that's just a handful of seconds.
19:59It just remains to be seen what challenges these trains will take on in the next decade
20:03with the company researching a new digital inspection system capable of analyzing train
20:07images for detecting hazards to further establish its safety, in addition to other amazing projects
20:13that will significantly contribute to the quality and excellence of its services.
20:18And this, we have come to the end of this news brief. You can find these and many other
