00:00The Venezuelan government denounced the size of the United States of an aircraft used by
00:11President Nicolás Maduro.
00:16In Argentina, social discontent grows after President Maduro vetoed a reform that means
00:21to increase pensions in a context of severe economic crisis.
00:29In Palestine, the UN-led polio vaccination campaign continues in Gaza, a Nusra Refuge
00:35camp.
00:36Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Ana Marrero from the Telesur headquarters in Caracas,
00:44Venezuela.
00:45Stay with the news, stay with us.
00:59The Venezuelan government denounced the size shared by the US of an aircraft used by President
01:04Nicolás Maduro.
01:05Caracas denounced before the international community that, once again, the authorities
01:09of the United States illegally confiscate a Venezuelan aircraft, justifying themselves
01:13with coercive measures that they unilaterally and illegally impose around the world.
01:19In turn, the Bolivar Republic state that this new act of disposition has demonstrated Washington
01:24uses economic and military power to intimidate and pressure state socials of the Dominican
01:30Republic so that they serve as accomplices in its delinquent acts.
01:37Also, in Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro assured that no one is above law and institutions
01:46of the Venezuelan state, following repeat attempts by the extreme right wing to deny
01:50the legitimacy of the electoral power.
01:52During the transmission of his program, Comaduro Más, the Venezuelan president denounced the
01:57attempts of the extreme right wings to deny the legitimacy of the institution of the state
02:02after their failure in the presidential elections of last July 28.
02:06In this sense, the Venezuelan head of state points out that the former presidential far
02:09right candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, resorts to this type of method to take the
02:14power by violating and disrespecting the constitutional law of the country.
02:19Maduro also stated that it was contradictory for the former extreme right wing candidate
02:24to participate in an electoral process when he did not attend any of the summons of the
02:30National Electoral Council and to ensure that he would not accept the results if they were
02:34not favorable to him.
02:36In turn, the Venezuelan president urged the people worldwide to work on building up an
02:46alternative cyberspace free and independent from the dominance of the U.S. in pluralism.
02:54On my last speech before the United Nations General Assembly, I raised this great issue.
02:58Even with the presidents I address the topic every time they call me, or I call them, that
03:02the world has to free itself and build an alternative cyberspace, not controlled, not
03:07poisoned, which does not serve to manipulate and to establish these cyberspace warfare
03:12systems.
03:13Look at the kind of cyber attack that is being mounted here on social media, but another
03:17attack was on the transmission system of the National Electoral Council.
03:20Meanwhile, they were willing to shut down the power grid on July 28, and we prevented
03:25it, but they managed to destroy the nodes and the systems that they themselves created.
03:51The Venezuelan economy recovers despite being hit by the blockade for years.
03:55The central bank announced that the country achieved 13 quarters of economic growth and
03:58the GDP ramped up from 8.40% to 8.78% in the first quarter of 2024.
04:07I think the trend is upwards.
04:09Let's hope that by 2025 our economy improves even more, that we surge our economy even
04:14more and that Venezuela be more developed.
04:19There are still challenges in the process of economic reactivation.
04:23The Piccadilly Company trades locally produced shoes imported from southern Brazil.
04:27Its owner refers to the hurdles imposed by the blockade, such as the need to triangulate
04:32the maritime transport of the merchandise so that it arrives from a neighboring country.
04:37The merchant ship has to instead of sailing along one sea, which is this one, it has to
04:43travel on another sea and has to transship in Cartagena and that represents more cost
04:47on the freight side, not more on the shoes, but on the freight, and it implies more time
04:52to reschedule the orders, in a month and a half, a month and 10 days for the merchandise
04:57to arrive, when in the past if it came by this sea in 10 or 11 days the merchandise
05:03was here.
05:05New routes of international cooperation are open for Venezuela.
05:08President Nicolas Maduro was invited to the BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan
05:12on October 23 and 24.
05:15According to Foreign Minister Ivan Gil, the country is already in the organization's orbit.
05:20We have the support of all the BRICS members, I was in Russia a few months ago and met with
05:24all the foreign ministers, with the 10 foreign ministers of the BRICS, we have noteworthy
05:29support for Venezuela to work with the BRICS, in fact, we are already working, our ministers
05:34are attending meetings of the BRICS, we are participating in the commissions, we are participating
05:39in the exchange of information.
05:42Russian President Vladimir Putin deems that Maduro's participation will enrich debates
05:46and help identify promising areas of multilateral cooperation.
05:51For Venezuela, as for many countries globally, the strengthening of the BRICS and joining
05:56the BRICS would bring multiple benefits, first of all, full inclusion into a new dynamic
06:00of international economic relations based once again not on the exploitation of the
06:04population, but on cooperation, on the development of all in a world of equals and, secondly,
06:10in a much safer world.
06:13The entry of Venezuela into the BRICS Plus means a leap over the barriers imposed by
06:17the blockade and the possibility of opening trade to an organization that comprises 45%
06:22of the global population.
06:24Well, it'll be very positive because Venezuela will be able to export everything we produce
06:30here and not necessarily with the US currency, the US dollar.
06:37We can export with our own currency and that will be an advantage for Venezuela, both for
06:41importers and exporters, a leverage for Venezuela and it will further be paramount for our region
06:47since Brazil and Venezuela, if they are in that connection with the BRICS, it will be
06:51very crucial.
06:54Venezuela's impact on geopolitical and energy matters turns out to be a fundamental factor
06:58for cooperation in a group of countries of the Global South that is growing rapidly towards
07:02leadership and world trade.

07:35that was meant to increase pensions in a context of super-economic crisis.
07:40In response to the veto, the Argentine justice system received the first legal actions for
07:44a large branch of the duties of the public office against President Millet.
07:51The complaint states that the presidential measures should be investigated as part of
07:55a policy of mistreatment of the elderly, which leads to non-compliance with the guarantee
08:02of human rights, and should also be considered an attack from the state of the most vulnerable.

11:55Health workers vaccinate children against polio in the Nusra Refugee Camp
12:00as part of a large-scale campaign led by the UN in the Gaza Strip.
12:04Health authorities hope to prevent an outbreak in the territory devastated by Israel's genocidal war.
12:10The campaign aims to reach some 640,000 children,
12:15and the authorities plan to vaccinate children in central Gaza until Wednesday
12:20before moving on to the more devastated north and south.
12:23On their part, Israel has agreed to limit pauses in the fighting to facilitate the campaign.
12:29Health Director of the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees, UNRWA, Akihiro Saita,
12:36said that the organization is vaccinating 90% of children under the age of 10.
12:48We routinely, we regularly check the sewages in all the countries in the world
12:53to make sure that there is no polio virus, and then we did it in Gaza,
12:58and we checked the sewage in the laboratory designated by WHO,
13:03and then we found that there are polio virus type 2 from the polio vaccine.
13:08And because of this, that we need to vaccinate all the children less than 10 years in Gaza,
13:14and we unfortunately had one case of polio recently.
13:17And to address this polio campaign, WHO, World Health Organization, and the UNICEF
13:24brought 1.2 million doses of polio type 2 vaccine to Gaza recently.
13:31These conditions, the lack of cleaning supplies, overcrowding, and the spread of sewage water,
13:38we decided that our children must be vaccinated to protect them.
13:44In the United States, pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched in the streets of New York City
13:49in solidarity with the Palestinian cause. Let's listen.
13:53So we demand arms embargo and demand permanent ceasefire,
13:57and demand people in Gaza should go back to their homes,
14:00should be free of Israeli occupation, and just release all hostages.
14:06This is the only way to do that.
14:09We are here in UNESCO today because there is no words to describe the unbelievable genocide
14:15which is taking place in front of the whole world, and the whole world is silent.
14:19We are here as Jewish people to say that we are embarrassed with what the Zionist state is doing.
14:29Hundreds of people took to the streets in Turkey in an EU demonstration
14:33rejecting the United States' interference in the country and the world.
14:37During the protest, citizens demanded that the United States withdraw its military troops from the country,
14:43including the INSI Green Base, the largest and most strategically important base
14:48housed in US nuclear weapons.
14:51Hours before the demonstration, about 15 activists of the Turkish Youth Association
14:56attacked two crew members of the US and FIBUS ship in the city of Smyrna.
15:03The movement points out that US soldiers carried the blood of Turkish soldiers
15:09and the blood of thousands of Palestinians on their hands.
15:19In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, authorities report that at least 129 people were killed
15:25during a prison break attempt over the weekend at the Makala prison in the capital Kinshasa.
15:32The provisional death toll stands at 129, 24 of whom were shot after warnings.
15:39The others were jostled, suffocated and some women raped.
15:44The commission also identified 59 injured,
15:47who are currently being treated by the government for appropriate care.
15:52The government is delighted that calm has been restored,
15:56deplores these unfortunate incidents and offers its deepest condolences
16:00to the families and friends of the victims.
16:02Investigations are continuing and the public will be informed of the outcome.
16:07In China, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a ministerial conference
16:11ahead of Forum on China's Africa cooperation in Beijing.
16:14The FOCUS 2024 summit will run from September 4 to 6.
16:19This year's summit will have four high-level meetings
16:22on the topics of state governance, industrialization and agricultural modernization,
16:28peace and security, and high-quality bilateral cooperation.
16:33The summit will adopt two outcome documents,
16:36the declaration and the action plan to build a major consensus
16:40and share the path for implementing high-quality China's Africa cooperation.
16:44China is Africa's largest trading partner,
16:47with bilateral trade hitting $167.8 billion in the first half of 2024.
17:02Currently the changes of the world are accelerating
17:05and the world has entered a new period of turbulence and transformation.
17:09The collective rise of the Global South, represented by China and Africa,
17:14profoundly affects the process of world history.
17:17We will work together to promote modernization
17:20and jointly build a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future.
17:24This is in line with the inevitable requirements of historical progress
17:28and reflects the common aspirations of the Chinese and African people.
17:36Senegal's Foreign Minister Yassine Fall told ministers at the conference
17:40that she hopes China offers more support
17:43on the implementation of Africa's development blueprint.
17:49Therefore we, Africans and Chinese, must continue to work together
17:53to ensure Africa's development by 2063,
17:56drawing inspiration from the Chinese model,
17:58but of course adapting it to Africa's situation in order for Africa
18:02to ensure its food sovereignty and that it's able to transform
18:05its agricultural products on the African continent
18:07for added value and industrialization.
18:13In this context, the President of China, Xi Jinping,
18:15held a meeting with his Kenya counterpart, William Ruto.
18:19The Chinese president indicated that both countries have completed
18:22a series of projects that contribute to the economic and social development.
18:26Xi Jinping pointed out that Beijing and Nairobi
18:29are working to deepen their comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership,
18:33allowing the participation of the people abroad and strengthening friendly ties.
18:39For his part, the President of Kenya appreciated efforts of the government of China
18:43to increase investment in the African country and expand bilateral cooperation.
19:04And now we change topics.
19:06In Uruguay, renowned football player Luis Suarez
19:10announced his retirement from international football,
19:13revealing in tears that on Friday he will play his last game in his country,
19:17the 2026 World Cup qualifier match against Paraguay in Montevideo.
19:2237-year-old Suarez made his Uruguay debut 17 years ago in 2007
19:28under manager Oscar Tabares.
19:31His prolific international career with La Celeste
19:35includes 69 goals and 39 assists in 142 matches,
19:40which makes him the top scorer in the history of the Uruguayan team.
19:45Precisely, Suarez represents his nation at eight major international tournaments,
19:50playing in four World Cups, including the 2010 edition,
19:54where he scored three goals to see Uruguay reach the semifinals.
19:58In addition, he scored an assist in the 2011 Copa América final,
20:03helping Uruguay beat Paraguay to win the country's fourth title.
20:14It is difficult, yes, very difficult.
20:18But this is the moment when I can play my last match with the national team in peace.
20:24I'm going to play it with the same illusion that I played my first match in 2007,
20:29with the same passion, with the same illusion as that boy who started at the age of 19.
20:35It is difficult, it is very difficult because it was not an easy decision.
20:40But I have the peace of mind that I gave everything until the last game
20:43and that the spark did not fade away little by little.
20:46And that is why I made the decision to do it now.
