00:00Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Ana Marrero from the Telesur headquarters in Caracas,
00:13Venezuela.
00:14We begin with the news, start with us.
00:27The government of Venezuela reported the gradual re-establishment of the national electricity
00:31system after being subject to a sabotage.
00:34The Minister of Interior, Doño Cabello, informed that the attack on the electric service was
00:40planned in advance by ultra-right-wing groups, for which reasons the government supplied
00:45a contingency plan for the restoration of the service.
00:54The Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, called on the people to come together to fight
00:58against the recent attacks by the Venezuelan ultra-right-wing against the national electric
01:03system, which affects several states in the country.
01:11I am on my way to Miraflores.
01:13I was touring several places in the city in this battle we are fighting against the evil
01:18and criminal attack we have suffered against the electric system.
01:22But nothing can stop this people.
01:24Nobody can stop us.
01:26Through his social network, the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced his
01:31tour through the streets of Caracas and his subsequent return to the presidential command
01:36post in Miraflores to speak to the Venezuelan people.
01:39The president also pointed out that Venezuelans have been active since earlier in the morning
01:43in the face of the criminal attack against the national electricity system, which has
01:47not been able to and will not be able to overcome the conscience of the people.
01:52Let's watch the following video.
01:56Here I am in my parish, El Valle, El Valle Shopping Center.
02:00It is about five o'clock in the afternoon.
02:03I'm on my way to Miraflores, coming from the command center.
02:14And the people here are getting ready because it's Friday and the body knows it, my parish.
02:19People have been super active since early morning.
02:22The criminal attack against the electric system has not been successful and it will not succeed.
02:35We will continue informing Baralt Avenue.
02:38Almost six o'clock in the afternoon we are on our way to Miraflores to make the team
02:42meeting and to communicate with our people.
02:45Our people are truly heroic champions.
02:47Our people are beautiful, courageous, and have full confidence in their president.
02:56On the other hand, President Nicolás Maduro points out that this Friday's attack is different
03:01from previous attacks on the national electric system.
03:06It has different characteristics.
03:17It has been an attack, again, on Guri.
03:23At this time that I am speaking to you, we have determined the mechanisms that were used
03:31in Guri, within Guri, and in the vicinity of Guri.
03:40How was it done?
03:43And I will not say more because the investigation is in full process, to be able to achieve
03:53justice in this case.
03:57They had attacked the transmission systems, but because of the various protections that
04:08we have made on the generation system, particularly of Guri, approximately four years ago they
04:17had not reached the heart of the system within Guri.
04:24They played it all.
04:25They played it completely.
04:28And the experts of the highest level who are there, along with the Vice President, along
04:33with the Minister Marquez, say that the attack they made, how they planned it, the failure
04:39they programmed, and the magnitude of what they generated could be described, as they
04:47wrote to me, as the father and mother of all the attacks that have been made against
04:52Guri, with one objective, to liquidate Guri.
04:58It's an attack, outrageous attack, it's an attack full of revenge, it's an attack full
05:05of hatred, that comes from the fascist currents that have taken over the political sectors
05:15that pretend to be political opposition.
05:19The Venezuelan President also congratulated all the forces that as soon as the attack
05:23on the electrical system was attacked, they began to work to resume the service.
05:29I would like to congratulate the entire people, the uniformed people, the Bolivarian National
05:37Armed Forces, the uniformed people, the Bolivarian National Police, the State and Municipal Police,
05:43ICPC, SEBIN, DGCIM, because immediately an exemplary, once the attack on the heart of
05:55the electric system was detected, which left without electricity service, as in March 2019,
06:05throughout the country, the plans were immediately activated, the CENTEA plan, to patrol, protect,
06:18accompany the population, all of our people, all essential services.
06:24Automatically, the plans are elaborated, accepted and activated.
06:33In that context, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the Americas, ALBATICIPI,
06:37issued an official statement in support of the Venezuelan government.
06:41In its communique, the regional bloc categorically condemned the sabotage operations to the national
06:47power grid and the communications in general of the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela
06:53on Friday, August 30, 2024.
06:55Likewise, he expressed that this vandalism and criminal act by the fascist sector does
07:01not upset the will of Venezuelans and insists on continuing with its good plan.
07:07It is a direct attack on the people which seriously affect their welfare and development
07:13with enormous consequences on their physical and physiological health, preventing them
07:19from carrying out their usual routine to get food and medicine, go to work, among other things.
07:26The bloc also ratified that the Bolivarian Alliance supports all the actions of the
07:30Venezuelan government to restore normality, to identify those responsible and to restore
07:35tranquility to a noble and hardworking people who have been able to overcome every attack
07:41with great resilience and who have no other horizon than its progress and well-being.

08:10Welcome back to From the South.
08:12And now again we go live with our colleague and correspondent Gladys Quesada who will give us
08:17a quick and precise update about how the Venezuelan people and also the government
08:22face the power grid in the country.
08:25Hello, Gladys.
08:27Yeah, Ana, hello.
08:28Thanks for once again having me here and receiving me with the information and the
08:33updates from Caracas, Venezuela.
08:35Yeah, currently the recovery, the reinstatement of the power grid of the service of electricity
08:42here in Caracas is gradual, as you were saying, and is going step by step slowly in some areas,
08:48but because it depends on the capacity of recovery of the infrastructure and also because
08:55the damage was wide in some point, in some extent, but so far they are recovering this.
09:03Also, as you were referring, the president Nicolás Maduro, he was addressing the national
09:08and international press from the Miraflores Palace, the seat of the government, and he
09:13was there in a meeting with some of the top authorities of the nation, that's to say
09:18the defense minister, Vladimir Padrino López, the communications minister, Freddy Iñáñez,
09:23and the interior justice and peace minister, Diosdado Cabello RondĂłn.
09:27Those are three of the ministers that were having statements and pronouncing themselves
09:33today, and so far this is what has happened lately in Venezuela and in Caracas.
09:40I have to say that the president, and you were given some data, but I want to stress
09:45other ones, that the president said that all the contingency plans, all of those strategies
09:51to face one attack like this one, an attack of this kind and this magnitude, are available
09:58in the country, and you know that the Venezuelan authorities and the people have the expertise
10:04to confront this kind of attacks, this kind of terrorist actions against the national
10:10power grid, as it was done on March the 7th, back in 2019, when Juan Guaido was self-proclaimed
10:18as president of the nation, and he also was calling for this kind of actions and this
10:23extent or this type of violence in the country.
10:26Also, he was congratulating the people of Venezuela, because he was saying that everyone
10:31was in peace, was calm, and they show a strong will and also a good judgment in their actions
10:40and in their ability to qualify what was going on in the country, and not just to be carried
10:45away by the provocations of the right-wing and the attacks.
10:50He was also saying that everyone went out just to work and to live one regular, normal
10:56day as they used to.
10:59And he was saying that this is not new, as he was referring, but this one has a, you
11:07know, this new attack has a psychological impact, has a psychological attempt, you know,
11:16aiming in the collective imaginary of the people, and this has an underbelly, because
11:21it's not just to leave the country without service.
11:24It's also to impact on the stability and, you know, the spiritual peace of the people
11:32and to provoke them, to make them go out and to be outraged against an enemy that does
11:37not exist.
11:39So that's one of the strategies of this attack, and that was what the president was saying.
11:44And he reminded that prior to the elections of July 28th, there was a paramilitary group
11:49that was detained in Tashira, and he was saying that that paramilitary group composed or made
11:55up by Venezuelan and Colombian people was or had the intention to explode an electric
12:02station, also a power station in that state.
12:05So one of the many objectives, one of the many points of that group was to put in danger,
12:13to jeopardize the July 28th presidential elections, intending to impede the realization, the carrying
12:22on of these elections.
12:23But it was also stopped, it was pulled in a hat, and this is the result.
12:29So the president was saying that this is not new and that the right-wing extremist groups
12:34and the terrorist groups were announcing this in the social media back in August the 7th,
12:39when they were saying that the anonymous group was announcing a hit against the national
12:44power grid as this one that Venezuela has suffered today.
12:48So that is the information.
12:50I have to stress that this attack against the national power grid affected 80 percent
12:57of the service in a country that is reliant on energy because of the transportation means,
13:03because of the hospitals, and because of all the services.
13:07But as the president was saying, they are prepared, they are aware of what is going
13:12on in the back of these attacks, and that the nation is so prepared that, for example,
13:18all the hospitals, 79 hospitals here in Caracas had a power backup, so they never ceased to
13:25do or to perform the surgeries, to give the services, to provide health care for the people.
13:33And that's so important to say because that tells a lot about the preparation, the preparedness,
13:40the readiness, the expertise of the Venezuelan government and the Venezuelan people facing
13:45this kind of actions and this kind of attacks.
13:49So Ana, this is the information, this is what is going on in Venezuela and in Caracas, and
13:54we will be reporting so far and also in upcoming emissions.
13:58So now we give you back the signal.
14:00Back to you, Ana.
14:01Thank you, Clarice, very much for your updates and all the important things you said.
