00:20The president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, ensured on Saturday that the country would
00:26be at peace not only at the spring ceremony on January 10th, 2025, but also during his
00:30whole term, 2025-2031.
00:31The vice president of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, assured on Saturday
00:39that his country does not receive military equipment from other nations.
00:49Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos, from Televisa Studios
00:53in Havana, Cuba.
00:55We begin with the news.
00:56In Uruguay, voting in Sunday's presidential run-off election continues.
00:59Normally, over 7,200 polling stations open at 8 a.m. local time and will remain open
01:05until 7.30 p.m. local time.
01:07Two hours after polls close, pollsters are expected to deliver their first projections.
01:12More than 2.7 million Uruguayans eligible to vote will choose between ruling party candidate
01:17Álvaro Delgado and that of the opposition broad front YamantĂș Orsi, established in
01:22the national constitution.
01:24Voting is mandatory, and those failing to participate are subjected to fines.
01:29The winning candidate will only need a simple majority to become new president of the country.
01:38I hope everything goes well.
01:40Whatever the result, may it be the best choice for the country, may we continue to move forward,
01:45may we continue to grow, especially our youth.
01:48I also hope that the country can continue to grow and that it does not stagnate.
01:59I only ask the government for safety, to be able to go out in the street with peace of
02:03mind, as an old person, as a young person, as a child.
02:17And a few hours before the beginning of the presidential election process in Uruguay,
02:21both campaign commands denounced irregularities in the ballots.
02:24President of the electoral corps Wilfredo Penco confirmed on Saturday that complaints
02:28have been received throughout the week.
02:30The national party has reported sheets with errors in the date, while the broad front
02:35pointed out printing defects and differences in the thickness of the paper.
02:39President of the electoral body informed that these complaints were communicated to the
02:43electoral boards, assuring that for the moment this is all they can do.
02:47He highlighted that in case of any irregularity there are legal guarantees to address them
02:52and protect the right to vote.
02:59Let's take a look at the context in which this election day takes place in Uruguay.
03:07This Sunday, November 24th, some 2.7 million Uruguayans are called to the polls to elect
03:12the next president and vice president for the 2025-2030 term.
03:20According to the National Electoral Council, polling stations open from 8 am local time,
03:25and the day is expected to end at 7.30 pm local time.
03:29The first preliminary results are expected to be ready around 9.30 pm local time.
03:37On this second day of elections, voting will be mandatory for those who are registered
03:41with the National Electoral Council, voting will be on a first-come, first-served basis
03:46in the electoral circuits, which will operate with voting commissions, made up of 3 members.
03:54Let us remember that in the general elections, the broad front was the most voted with 43.9%
04:00of the votes, while the Republican coalition obtained 26.7%.
04:06In this sense, at the legislative level, the broad front achieved a majority in the
04:10Senate, consolidating its presence in the Congress, although the Chamber of Deputies
04:15remained without a majority for either of the two blocs.
04:22This electoral process faces the challenge of retaining the scattered votes from the
04:26first round and mobilizing its political machinery, which includes sub-national governments in
04:3115 of the 19 departments of the country.
04:34It is also taking place in the midst of high levels of insecurity, drug trafficking, unemployment
04:39and poverty, central issues for the next presidential administration.
04:47Now let's meet the candidate for the presidency for the broad front party, Yamandu Orsi.
04:51Since his youth, Yamandu Orsi has been part of the broad front.
04:54He was elected mayor for two consecutive terms in the department of Canelones, the second
05:00most populated in Uruguay, retiring with 64% of citizens' approval.
05:05The leftist candidate in the first round obtained 43.9% of the votes, recovering his presence
05:09in Congress.
05:10In this sense, Orsi, together with his government, pledged to boost the country's economy, provide
05:15quality education and prioritize labor, housing and health policy, with an emphasis on social
05:20justice.
05:27Let's meet the candidate for the national party, Álvaro Delgado.
05:31Delgado is a former secretary of the presidency of the current government of Luis Lacalle
05:36Poe.
05:37The candidate assured that his objective is to conquer the electorate to ensure the continuity
05:41of the current government project, which is characterized by a neoliberal approach.
05:45However, Delgado in the electoral round obtained 26.7%, although the chamber of deputies was
05:51left without a majority of any bloc.
05:53Delgado in this second round will have the support of other parties, although he has
05:57generated controversy within his own party.

06:23Welcome back.
06:36President of Venezuela NicolĂĄs Maduro ensured on Saturday that the country will be at peace,
06:40not only at his wedding ceremony on January 10th, 2025, but also during his whole term,
06:452025-2031.
06:46In front of the feverish youth gathered at the Anti-Fascist World Congress in Caracas,
06:52the head of state appreciated their support and commitment with the Bolivarian Revolution.
06:56Maduro further promised a peaceful swearing-in ceremony at La Carlota Convention Center.
07:01In addition, the president praised one of the agreements reached by the Anti-Fascist
07:05Youth and Student World Congress, which was to celebrate in January 2025 the World Anti-Fascist
07:11Festival in Caracas.
07:18And in El Salvador, the second White March took place.
07:21Demonstrators took to the streets to protest against the cutback measures of Nayib Qaeda's
07:25government.
07:26Roberto Hugo-Presa with all the details.
07:32Popular discontent was felt in the streets of San Salvador.
07:36Social organizations participated in the second White March in which, once again, they asked
07:40the government to reconsider the budget cuts for the areas of health and education next
07:44year so as not to affect the poorest families.
07:48We are here to demand a fair budget that really covers the needs of the Salvadoran people.
07:58It is not possible that Bukele's government is taking away the budget for health and education
08:05to strengthen the armed forces and to strengthen its propaganda program, to make the Salvadoran
08:15people and internationally believe that here we live in a wonderland.
08:25We are in solidarity with the struggle of the teachers and the health of the country.
08:32Doctors, health workers demand and need our support, and as citizens, we are users of
08:37health and education services, and that is why we fight together with them.
08:44Teachers, doctors, trade unionists, unemployed environmentalists, vendors, relatives of detainees
08:51during the emergency regime, and relatives of political prisoners joined the march to
08:55present their demands.
08:58We must also be in solidarity with other sectors that are joining us, but we also need to make
09:02visible the violation of human rights and this is the only space we have left, the streets.
09:08That is why we are here today because the arrests continue, the regime of exception
09:11continues to violate rights and the errors are not corrected.
09:18We are here demanding the freedom of our fellow veterans captured during all this time.
09:2525 political prisoners who are now in El Salvador and dozens of people persecuted for political
09:31reasons also because of the Bukele regime.
09:38Social leaders lament the threats, pressures and dismissals against people who take to
09:43the streets to express their discontent against the government.
09:46However, they affirm that little by little they are losing their fear.
09:51The president of Argentina also made that statement that freedom of expression was respected
09:56here, but we see that it is not true because all these colleagues and fellow health workers
10:01who were present at the march on the 19th were dismissed in due process.
10:12Union leaders denounced that once again the police set up roadblocks on the highways to
10:16hinder the arrival of citizens from the interior of the country on their way to the White March.
10:26During a meeting with leaders of the communes, Peruvian President Dina Boluarte outraged
10:30the people again when referring to the domestic budget management.
10:34In the meeting, the president ignored the increase of the cost of the basic food basket
10:38and left in the hands of creativity the acquisition of its products.
10:42President also ignored the increase of poverty in the country during her government.
10:45According to a report published by the National Institute of Statistics and Information, the
10:50cost of the basic family food basket has increased by up to 57% during Boluarte's last two years
10:56in office.
10:58And this Sunday, China's Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi reported that President Xi
11:06Jinping's tour resulted in more than 60 cooperation agreements with Latin America.
11:11Beijing described the tour as a trip of solidarity to jointly promote development and a trip
11:16of cooperation to expand partnership.
11:18In the 11 days of President Xi's tour, he held more than 10 bilateral meetings outside
11:23the multilateral spaces.
11:25In each event, the head of state ratified the importance of firmly maintaining the defense
11:29of multilateralism.
11:31The head of Chinese diplomacy assured that the tour was an invitation to grow together
11:35with a peaceful development and a cooperation of mutual benefit and common prosperity.
11:58In the Philippines, a fire that lasted for several hours burned down at least 1,000 homes
12:03in a popular community in Manila.
12:05Local authorities report that so far, no fatalities have been recorded.
12:09They also said that in the risk area, there were about 2,000 homes, where half of them
12:15were affected.
12:16Emergency teams deployed around 36 trucks and four firefighting boats, while the army
12:21sent two helicopters to extinguish the fire.
12:29The UK weather forecast entity issued over 250 flood warnings following heavy rainfalls
12:35and from storm Bert.
12:38Weather authorities warned that the storm would pose dangerous coastal conditions, as
12:43well as disruption in southern England and Wales overnight on Sunday.
12:47For the more, authorities issued a yellow warning for gusts which could affect land,
12:51air and boat transport in western Scotland, northern Ireland and southeastern England.
12:57So far, the aftermath of storm Bert claimed about three lives.

13:51On Sunday, the spokesman for Russia's presidential office, Dmitry Peskov, confirmed the reasons
13:56why President Vladimir Putin ratified the update of the nuclear doctrine.
14:00Peskov added that the move was a response to U.S. President Joe Biden's decision to
14:04authorize Ukraine to use long-range missiles against the internationally recognized Russian
14:09territory, just a few days before leaving office.
14:12The presidential spokesman assured that the United States is increasingly taking reckless
14:16steps and pointed out that none of the decisions taken by Moscow are casual.
14:21Peskov assured that Russia is constantly responding to the unprecedented escalation triggered
14:26mainly by Washington.

14:35that his country does not receive military equipment from other nations.
14:39The senior official made the statement during an interview to an Arab media when asked about
14:44the contribution of Iran, China, North Korea and other countries.
14:49Medvedev assured that with these countries and many other nations there is good cooperation,
14:54but weapons are all manufactured on Russian territory.
14:57He also explained that the country is in a state of hybrid warfare with the North Atlantic
15:01Treaty Organization.
15:24The Israeli prime minister's office announced on Sunday that Emirati security forces found

15:34November 20 in the United Arab Emirates.
15:37The PMO promised to bring the accountable for his death to justice and issued warnings
15:42against all not needed trips to that nation.
15:45The Jewish community mourns the Orthodox rabbi's loss as he was a leader of the Hasidic Shabbat
15:50movement in Dubai.
15:52In a diplomatic response, the Emirati Interior Ministry reported to open a file to find the
15:56guilty for his killing.
15:57Moreover, outlets advanced that suspects are allegedly members of the Uzbek cell operating
16:03on behalf of Iran, which hasn't commented on the allegations so far.
16:06Meanwhile, Netanyahu offered statements.
16:16The State of Israel will use all means and will deal with these murderers and those who
16:20dispatched them, to the fullest extent of the law.
16:25None of them will get away.
16:27I greatly appreciate the cooperation with the United Arab Emirates in investigating
16:32the murder.
16:33A gunman was dead and three police officers were wounded early Sunday after a shooting
16:41near the Israeli embassy in Jordan's capital, Amman.
16:44Jordan's public security director said in a statement that police pursued the gunman
16:48after he opened fire in the area surrounding him and was killed in a fire exchange with
16:52authorities.
