00:00The first vice-president of the Venezuelan United Socialist Party, Diosdado Cabello,
00:16emphasized that the recent sanctions imposed by Canada against Venezuelan officials represent
00:21nothing more than a failure.
00:26In Ecuador, the government said that this Thursday will be the last day without electricity
00:31after almost three months of power outages.
00:37And the Israeli regime mounted a series of new attacks on Yemen.
00:47Hello and welcome to From the South.
00:49I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:52We begin with an easy stay with us.
00:55In Venezuela, the first vice-president of the Venezuelan United Socialist Party, Diosdado
00:59Cabello, emphasized that the recent sanctions imposed by Canada against Venezuelan officials
01:05represent nothing more than a failure.
01:11...new sanctions against Venezuelan officials.
01:19Canada is lagging behind because they only do what the government of the United States
01:27tells them to do.
01:30The U.S. government sneezes and then Canada gets nervous.
01:37They don't realize that it has really failed, the method has failed.
01:45Cabello also condemned the U.S. embassy's questioning of Venezuela's constitutionality,
01:50considering that the U.S. appointed an illegitimate president in the country and tried to overturn
01:55the constitution.
02:02According to the U.S. embassy, January 10 is the deadline for Nicolás Maduro.
02:10Refusing a democratic transition, they say, will be the definitive rupture with the constitutional
02:18order and will plunge Venezuela into an even deeper crisis.
02:23It is funny when they talk about the constitution in Venezuela, when they appointed a president
02:30here and tried to tear that constitution to shreds.
02:36And they'd still approve a portrait to that man.
02:41And they, they came up with a horrible thing called transitional statute, which derogates
02:47the constitution.
02:49You look in that constitution to see if a statute can derogate it, and it does not appear
02:56anywhere.
02:58Cabello also stressed that the recent U.S. sanctions against the Venezuelan president
03:03Nicolás Maduro were in response to instructions from the outgoing U.S. administration.
03:14Last minute, Alberto Rodnews posted a last minute note from the European press that says
03:22the European Union is preparing more sanctions against Nicolás Maduro for lack of democratic
03:29transition in Venezuela.
03:32Remember that we are sanctioned.
03:34You don't need to sanction us again.
03:37You will make a fool of yourselves.
03:39Yes, because they might try to do it.
03:42What happens is that the United States has taken some new sanctions and they go after
03:49the United States.
03:51They do whatever the United States government says.
03:55They don't even think that the people who decided to impose the sanctions are going
03:59to live.
04:00Ten days after Nicolás Maduro and his people are sworn in, the president of the United
04:07States is sworn in, exactly ten days later.
04:13Here it is January 10, and there it is January 20.
04:18So they don't know what to do because they depend on the United States.
04:23On the other hand, Cabello pointed out that what happened in Venezuela on July 29, after
04:29the elections, had already been predicted by Commander Hugo Chávez, who always feared
04:34the intentions of the extreme right wing of the country.
04:37At that time, Chávez showed his concern and kept warning us.
04:46They were going to kill the revolutionaries.
04:49Wasn't that what they did?
04:51And wasn't that what they did on the 29th?
04:54Didn't they look for the Venezuelan women to kill?
04:56And they ended up killing two women?
04:59And they did it in a very mean way, with hatred, as they know how to do.
05:03And why did they do it?
05:05To spread fear.
05:06Then came the persecution.
05:08Then came the persecution of anyone who was a Chavista.
05:12But they didn't count on the sharpness of the Chavistas.
05:16This happened on day 29.
05:19And on day 30, we were on the streets.
05:23We stay in Venezuela, where the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean informed
05:28on Wednesday that the country leads economic growth in the Latin American region.
05:33The report indicates an increase in Venezuelan GDP of 6.2% by 2024, following by South American
05:41nations such as Paraguay, Brazil, Peru and Uruguay.
05:45Meanwhile, at the opposite extreme are Argentina, Ecuador and Bolivia.
05:50Central American nations showed less notable figures, with the Dominican Republic, Costa
05:56Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras standing out.
05:59Meanwhile, in the English-speaking Caribbean, the economy with the best record was Guyana.
06:05Regional growth in the year up to date is expected to be 2.2%, and in 2025 it is projected
06:12at 2.4%.
06:15In Bolivia, members of various social organizations gathered in the Murillo Square to celebrate
06:27the day of the democratic and cultural revolution.
06:30In celebration of the first electoral victory of the movement to socialism, MAS, in 2005,
06:37groups of citizens gathered in La Paz City, the Bolivian capital.
06:42The day commemorates the social and historical struggles of the farmer, indigenous and intercultural
06:47organizations for a better future.
06:49This great mobilization takes place within the framework of a call made by the MAS Board
06:55of Directors to the Bolivian people.
07:12Welcome back to From the South.
07:27In Ecuador, the government said that this Thursday will be the last day without electricity
07:32after almost three months of power outages.
07:35A second generation ship is expected to arrive on the shores of Guayaquil this Thursday to
07:41help generate electricity.
07:43Since September 23rd of this year, Ecuador has been facing prolonged blackouts that have
07:48lasted up to 14 hours a day in the midst of the drought.
07:52In this context, questions have been raised about the government's lack of timely action
07:56to address the situation.
08:04Colombian authorities confirmed Wednesday the discovery of human remains in a mass grave
08:11located in the city of Medellin.
08:13According to the government, these are people reported missing between 1978 and 2016 in
08:19the framework of the armed conflict.
08:21Sources linked to the search task informed that the investigation is the result of the
08:26work carried out by the Special Jurisdiction for Peace and the Unit for the Search for
08:31Missing Persons, which began in 2015.
08:35Evidence filed by human rights organizations in Medellin state that this place was the
08:39scene of forced disappearances in the 2000s, a period of worsening armed conflict in the
08:45city.
08:50In Paraguay, citizens demonstrate against an injustice with the seven wounds of our
08:55people, an event of reflection and remembrance to be held at the end of the year.
09:00The event is intended to address issues that are fundamental to understand the past and
09:05build a better future.
09:07It is also an opportunity to remember, reflect and honor the memory of those who suffered
09:12and fought for the country, including women, victims of femicide and native peoples.
09:18The objective is to pay attention to some painful episodes that have marked the history
09:23of the Paraguayan people.
09:25In addition, the event is open to the public and seeks to create a space for dialogue on
09:29the history and future of the country.
09:38Mexican women searching mothers and relatives of femicide victims began a hunger strike
09:44in front of the Chiapas state government building on Wednesday demanding justice for the disappeared.
09:50The 12 leaders of the group began an indefinitive hunger strike until the governor and the attorney
09:56general responded to their demands for such injustice.
10:00In a symbolic act of protest, the members of the collective Mothers in Resistance positioned
10:06themselves in front of the government with banners, posters, a coffin with photos of
10:11the disappeared women and men.
10:14The executive secretariat of the National Public Security System reported that between

10:36The government of the U.S. state of California, Gavin Newsom, declared an emergency on Wednesday
10:42in the face of the continued spread of the H5N1 avian flu in that part of the western
10:49part of the country.
10:50Despite intense efforts to contain the virus, Newsom said the measure was already necessary
10:56because it had spread beyond the Central Valley to four areas in the southern part of the
11:02state.
11:03He clarified, however, that while the risk to the public remains low, steps will be taken
11:08to prevent the spread of the virus.
11:11Of the 61 confirmed human cases of avian flu in the U.S. so far this year, 34 were

11:51is changing dramatically, assuring that every day the Russian fighters are recovering square
11:56kilometers of territory.
11:58On the other hand, Putin said he doesn't know whether the West understood correctly the
12:03recent changes in the Russian Federation's nuclear doctrine.
12:07This after a change that states that a massive attack on the country, including with cruise
12:12missiles and drones, could generate a nuclear response.
12:16On the other hand, the President explained that the Russian economy has remained stable
12:21despite external threats, growing by approximately 8% in the last two years.
12:46In Russia, at least 80 tons of oil have already been collected off the coast of southern Russia

17:44Yemen.

17:51because of a rocket strike launched from Yemen early on Thursday.
18:00Human Rights Watch says Israel is deliberately depriving Palestinian citizens in Gaza of
18:06adequate access to water, resulting in thousands of deaths.
18:10The organization detailed that the Israeli authorities cut off and then restricted the
18:15supply of drinking water to Gaza.
18:18The executive director of Human Rights Watch, Tirana Hassan, affirmed that this is not just
18:23negligence but a calculated policy of deprivation that has resulted in the deaths of thousands
18:29of people from dehydration and disease, which is nothing less than a crime against humanity
18:35and an act of genocide.
18:37Likewise, Amnesty International reported that the Israeli military has committed in Gaza
18:42at least three of the five acts prohibited by the 1948 Genocide Convention.

19:16an argument had taken place.
19:18A man already confessed having used gasoline to spread the flames on the first floor of
19:24the premises and the staff of the cafeteria.
19:27In this context, 11 people lost their lives while seven were injured.
19:31Authorities indicate that the police will charge the arrested suspect with murder.
19:44Around five to six motorbikes were burning fiercely, blocking the entrance.
19:49About 15 minutes later, I think we saw one person using the flash of a mobile phone on
19:54the balcony of the third floor.
