00:00This week I caught up with jockey Emily Ellingwood, White Abario, and the rest of the connections
00:06on perhaps one of the most beautiful days I have seen at Santa Anita in quite some time.
00:18Hey Em! I'm great, how are you? Ready to roll? How far are we going? Half out, five.
00:26All right, gallop out as far as we want.
00:33Tell me a little bit how this journey has been for you
00:37from the beginning. Show horse girl, learn to gallop horses, jockey
00:43to this handsome boy over here. How's it been for you? It's pretty exciting.
00:48It's been quite a journey. You know, I've just been galloping, trying to work hard and
00:56get mounts as a jockey, and this opportunity came up and I couldn't pass it up. So,
01:03I'm really grateful for the connections and Doug O'Neill especially for recommending me as a
01:09rider for this wonderful horse. He's honestly a great horse to get on in the morning.
01:17He pretty much trains himself and just takes me along for the ride. I always look forward
01:24to riding him in the morning. He's a little bit spoiled, is he not? Just a little bit.
01:33You won the Breeders' Cup Classic, that was awesome, but now you're looking towards a
01:38$20 million race. You've got to feel excited. We're real excited. The purse is exciting in
01:45itself, but I'll be honest with you, we're really excited to see what this horse does
01:49at a mile and eight, one turn. We think that is right in his wheelhouse.
01:56All right, Chipper, he looked great out there. Just what you wanted?
01:59Yes, yes. We were very happy with his breeze. Makes it look easy. We know
02:08that just by watching Emily with her smile after the breeze, we know that she's very happy with
02:17him. That's our cue, is Emily's smile. We got that today, so everybody's happy.
02:24How important has Emily been since she's been getting on wider barrio prior to the Breeders'
02:29Cup? She seems like she's fitted right into the Dutch Road team.
02:32Yes. These two are a great team. It's like one and one A, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.
02:44They know each other so well. I mean, they're in love with each other. It's a great story.
02:51How was his work this morning, Em?
02:53It was great. We went a half out five. He galloped out really strong. I went to pull up to jog him
02:59off. Workers came by and he tried to take off again. That's always a good sign. If I had let
03:07him, he probably would have gone around again. Roberto, the groom of wider barrio.
03:15Best horse ever?
03:17Yeah, I like that horse. He's the best in the world now.
03:21What about his work this morning? I noticed you gave him a candy right after.
03:24Yeah, I give him candy every day. I give him candy after the race. He loves the candy.
03:32Oh yeah, he wants a piece of the doodle.
03:37Betty, you better keep walking, otherwise you'll get me into trouble. Yeah, keep walking.
03:47Many thanks to all the connections there and we look forward to seeing white a barrio
03:51in the Saudi Cup. I do want to remind you that we race on Friday, Saturday and Sunday,
03:56post-time 12.30 on Friday. It's free Fridays, free to get in and free parking. Three dollar
04:02beers and five dollar margaritas. We do have some steaks action this weekend as well,
04:07with the Astra Steaks on Sunday going mile and a half on the grass and the La Canada on Saturday.
